HELP!! Ds was just diagnosed as Lactose Intolerant. I have no idea what I need to look out for on our trip! Obviously he isn't drinking milk, but is there Soy Milk available at WDW, or the resorts? And what about treats? Is there anything "dairy free" that he may enjoy? I'd hate to think none of us are going to be able to enjoy ice cream because he can't have any! Do i need to call the TS restaurts ahead of time and let them know?

Thanks!

Jennifer

Hi there. I am also lactose intolerant. I usually do not have any problem at the restaurants in Disney. When I go to a buffet, I simply explain my situation to the chef, and usually the chef will come out and inform me what on the buffet contains milk and milk products. At the sit down restaurants, I generally avoid anything that "might" have milk or cream in it. If you are ever unsure, just ask, and a cook or chef will come speak to you. I have even had them offer to make items just for me that meet my needs. It has never been an issue for me before.

As for soy milk...I do drink it at home, but I have never tried to find it at Disney. Also, being a DVC member, I usually have the luxury of a fridge in my room and I keep Lactose free milk there for cereals and snacks.

As for the Mickey bars, it is hard to watch my wife and children eat them, but I manage! :rotfl:

How, old is your son?

I am pretty sure he can have a dole whip. I do believe that treat is non dairy. I would call and advise it on your reservations. My son 5 is lactose intolerant. But, he can handle small doses of dairy. He ate all of the sundae's at the sit downs with no problem. If he over indulges. He will have a little upset tummy. I would say ask your doctor, what is to much dairy. I do not think they have soy milk. But, I could be wrong. Disney is good with allergies, however. So, you should not have to much of a problem. If push comes to shove. You can always ship rice milk, etc to your resort..

I would suggest going over to the disABILIITES Forum and look at the disABILITIES FAQS, especially the links in Post #3 related to dietary concerns. A quick way there is follow the link in my signature.

Table next to us at 1900 PF seemed to have a little boy with some kind of food issue, maybe lactose intolerance... CM came out from the kitchen and showed the mother everything in the buffet that was OK for him and what might cause problems, and bought Soy milk for him to drink.

Thanks. Ds is only 2, so it's hard for him to say when something is wrong. And unfortunately, his intolerance manifests itself in lovey episodes of diahrea that lasts for DAYS!!!!:headache: definately what we don't want at Disney!

I know I read quite recently that some counter service is selling soy milk! If I remember correctly one place was in Tomorrowland.

I also think that the food courts at Disney hotels would have soy milk.

I was also going to mention Dole Whip (yum), but you should ask first as there may be trace amounts of dairy in it.

I agree with other posters; ask. All Disney food establishments will have information on the foods they serve.

I think your DS will find plenty to eat -- fun stuff too!
