I am planning on ordering a cake from CRT for my daughter's birthday. I was quoted $29 for a 6 inch vanilla or chocolate cake that is dairy free. Has anyone had a dairy free cake at WDW, esp. at CRT? What did you think about the taste? I am the one who is lactose intolerant, but would like to get a cake that we can all eat. However, I don't want to ruin the taste for everyone else. We make a lot of our own desserts at home and they come pretty close to tasting the same, as if they had milk.

I'd appreciate all the feedback I can get. I asked on a cake thread, but haven't had any responses. Also, do you think they could tint the vanilla frosting pink?

I ordered a dairy free, gluten free cake from the Wilderness Lodge when we stayed there in February. It was pretty good, as far as taste wise goes and the cost was similar to what you said in your post.

I think I got sick from some cross contamination from my cake (got sick an hour or so after eating a slice), but I'm not sure that it was gluten or dairy that did it.

I've heard some good stories about special cakes, but most of them have been gluten free and dairy free, not just dairy free. It's pretty easy to make frosting milk free, so I bet you will be pretty safe. I'm not sure about the pink frosting. They couldn't do anything special for me b/c of the cross contamination issue.

Taste wise I think you will be ok!

You'll have to give us a review if you get a cake. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I will probably give them a call back soon and ask about having one that is just dairy free. It's good to hear that the taste was good and that you've heard of other good experiences too. Sorry, you got sick though.

I will definitely share our cake experience when we get back. (It'll be a few months though...birthday isn't until September :goodvibes )

My DD is severely allergic to eggs and milk. On my birthday trip 2 years ago, I wanted a cake that she could have (I can have cake anytime) beside her typical depression cake. My DW called the Goodings Bakery at the crossroads and talked to the pastry chef. I don’t remember the price, but it was very reasonable, had it delivered to the HDDR as part of my birthday celebration. When it was delivered, my DD was upset as she usually is that she could not have any of my cake until we told her it was specially made so she could eat it. Honestly it was one of the tastiest cakes I have ever had and my DD enjoyed it so much she ate the left over cake everyday when we got back from the parks.

Thanks wak648! I just emailed the Lake Buena Vista Goodings and asked them a few questions. The prices they had online are definitely better. Appears to be $5 less for a larger cake and probably one with more exciting decorations.
When I talked to the CRT line, they wouldn't start custom decorating unless it was 10inches and edible images were $30 each. (Yikes..) The 10 inch cake was $45 by itself.. Goodings website lists $24.99 for an 8in Minnie Mouse or Little Mermaid themed cake and CRT quoted me $29 for the basic 6in.

Bummer, Goodings must not have the same pastry chef anymore. I emailed them and the response was pleasant, but not helpful. They don't do dairy free cakes anymore. Than can deliver to resorts, but not to the parks. Oh well. It was worth a try!
