I had read in the past that it was possible to pick up a daily news briefing from either guest services or Cove Cafe. Is this still the case? I do not want the internet plan nor do I want to want to watch the tv news however my trip is 14 nights and I'm not sure I want to be 100% disconnected.

they have a stack of navigators every day at guest services- i like to pick up a second one so i can have a clean copy, and one with all my circled activities.
and the app is a great resource- it doesn't require an internet plan to use (you just connect to the ship's wifi anyway), and doesn't use up the internet plan anyway, if you buy it. the app allows you to favorite things coming up, and it alerts you of those favorites ahead of time.

I believe she's asking about actual news from around the world. Like a newspaper that only highlights important events.

oooh... lol. that makes more sense as a question (and i thought i could finally answer a question on here!)
no, i didn't see anything like that around guest services. the best i could do was check in at the pub and see if news was on one of the tv's. but luckily i've been on shorter cruises, so i didn't miss out on much.
now i'll be curious if there IS a way to get non-internet news onboard, since i have a longer cruise coming up in the fall...

There was a daily news sheet available by Guest Services on our Baltic cruise in June 2015 -- I remember reading about the resignation of the head of FIFA. I don't remember seeing one on our Dover to Barcelona cruise in June 2017, though. I also don't remember seeing any news sheets on Caribbean/Bahamas cruises.

Thank you. I guess it's just wait and see. If there isn't on our first sea day I'll just be Elsa and let it go!

Several years ago on longer cruises (TA; PC; Europe) they did used to have a news sheet that they would distribute like the Navigators. But I haven't seen them in the last few years.

We didn't want to watch t.v. on our Panama Canal cruise but the news caught up with us anyway. It was when Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot. We heard about it from our table-mates at dinner.

We were on the Fantasy right after Hurricane Sandy hit the the Bahamas, then blew her way up the east coast. One of the families we talked to on the ship was from the Rockaways and they didn't know if they'd have a home to return to. Phone service was out in their neighborhood so they couldn't call friends to learn anything. With all that uncertainty, I can't imagine trying to enjoy a cruise, but they figured they'd deal with the probable loss when they got home.

You don't have to watch the news -- if there's something big going on, you'll hear about it.

Also, when you're in port the locals will ask you questions, especially when something political has recently happened. I found it best to force a smile, give a positive answer, then change the subject. It was hard to ignore when a local in Germany was making a chalk drawing clown charactiature of one of our presidents right there in the public square. I walked on by without commenting.

Personally, I think the best part of DCL and WDW on site is the ability to ignore the outside world.

Life becomes so much more stress free without access to the news.
Unless you are out to sea watching a hurricane close all of the roads you need to use to get home, and the hotel you planned to visit.

They offer a capsule New York Times on the HAL ships. I always appreciated having that available. It would be nice to have this on Disney.

Nope. Stress free not knowing about said hurricane, or where it's going. Storm cloud in the distance? Doesn't bother me, the ship's captain can avoid it.

House picked up and blown to Oz? I'll figure out where to sleep when I get back!

PS How do I make it appear directly instead of as a link?

Every time I go on a cruise, something major happens. George Bush died, John McCain died, Pulse night club shooting happened, the shooting at the gaming competition in Jacksonville happened. The news is no fun when I’m on a ship, so I try avoiding it.
