How did orientation go for DS? I hope he has a great year.

Lisa - wow! A proactive sped person in your school! Hang on to them! I'm glad your year is starting off well. Thanks to you and Christy asking how we made out today.

DS did not sleep well at all last night - frequent nightmares - and really looked overwhelmed and zonked out during the school visit/brief tour this afternoon. It was him and one other kid with autism (and his dad) with a couple of the sped staff. The staff said all the right things, and the big gang of teachers (oy....middle school!) look fine (and both DDs have had some of them before) but...we'll see. I'm really trying to be optimistic, but I'm concerned. Sigh. Christy - hope you've sorted out your sped folks and this week is better than last! Thanks for your concern!

Oooh, Caramel Squirrel lattes (aka crack in a cup), Homer drool...

Pam, I hope DS's first day is as good as can be tomorrow. I'll be thinking of him.

I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. 2:00 came way too fast today.

:grouphug: for all the kiddos and parents having issues with school already!! Way to go moms for keeping on things! :thumbsup2 Squeaky wheel and all that! It stinks that you have to stay on top of things they way you do, but you guys are great!

:wizard: P&PD for a great school year with informed educators!

Pam
Middle school is overwhelming for any kid add in and issue and lookout!!!!!
Hopefully you'll have a better informed group of teachers this year. I know we did for 6th. I think that is why I'm frustrated same school and teachers are totally uninformed.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you both tomorrow and in the days to come may he have an easy trasition and caring/INFORMED teachers.

Ours is starting to slowly smooth out. His math teacher god bless this woman she got the rest of the team on board. and the best news (drum roll please) he went to the band teacher on his own no reminders from me to talk with her about jazz band. he's still skeptical but he's going to try. we'd hoped he could give up regular band but he can't.
I talked with the SS teacher tonight (tom is doing a field trip) and she says write smoke on his page after 1/2 hour. Code words are great. latitude and longitude in his brain OH MY!!!! but he persevered and finished 90 mins later for 12?s

Left to do on the schools end wire 2 classrooms and the newest problem organization multiple notebooks aren't working.

the song lyrics I'm a survivor are stuck in my brain right now.

Lisa :woohoo:for a proactive IEP person wish I had our old one back. I hope DD has a great year.

Pam, I hope things go well for DS tomorrow!! Way to go all of you moms on being proactive moms--SpEd or not!! I wish we had more of you!!

Rebecca--I kept thinking about the sugar today! It was a good way to make me not miss it today!

Mom made me some tea with barely any sugar, so it's my substitute right now! I do miss my MickeyD's though!! :sad2:

Good luck to all the back to school kids this week, and the ongoing IEP issues.

Can I ask for some prayers? My aunt has been battling breast cancer going back about a dozen years or so. She was in remission for a good chunk of that time, but when it came back about 3 years ago, it spread to her bones, then liver. We just got word that it has spread to her brain. She is an incredibly optimistic person and has maintained an absolutely amazing attitude throughout this process (along with her unwavering faith), but things are not looking good right now. Could you say a prayer for her, her husband and her three children? Thanks.

You guys are the best! Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts :grouphug: !

The newest development - DS might be getting sick. Headache and stomachache. Refused dinner (truly, a first!) and *asked* for medicine (again, a first!), and then put himself to bed at 7:30 (OMG!). Very worried about possibly missing the first day of school if he isn't better come the morning, but seemed relieved when I told him it is ok if his "first day is the second day." Poor kid. Don't think he is playing us, but I'm on the watch for this just in case this is all anxiety-based.

Think it is going to be a loooooong year!

Oh NEE I'm so sorry prayers said for sure! We lost my MIL to Breast cancer that returned in her liver inside of 3 years. we had her 22 days after the drs told us.
may she and all of you find the strength to go on. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Pam that sure doesn't sound like he's playing you. Although I'm sure his anxiety is through the roof about now. Hopefully he can sleep it off if not 2nd day works just as well. Allergies are reacking havoc here right now L's felt like dirt for a week. thought he had an ear infection on top of it all.
Hang in there and hugs to both of you.

Oooooh NEE I am sooo sorry to hear about your aunt. I truly hope that it turns out ok. Cancer is such a bully. I HATE it soooo much.
My thoughts are you and the family.

Pam I'm also sorry to hear ds is not feeeling well. I hope he feels better this am. Hugs to him on the first day.

Good thoughts to your aunt and family, NEE.

And, Pam, haven't made it through all the threads yet, hope DS is better.
