Daddy for a week, Emily's Special Trip to "Ally's Room"

Okay, I haven't got caught up yet, but I'm here! Man, this thread moves fast!

I stopped reading b/c I can't see your pictures! I saw the one you posted of yourself, and the airplane and smoking sign, but that's it. :confused3 Do you use photobucket or something else?

Anyways, I'm on board, and if I have to, I'll just read from home in case those pics are blocked.

I hope you and Beth get your "happily ever after". Emily sounds like such a sweetheart and it's easy to see how much you care about both of "your" girls.

In other news, regarding my probably upcoming Feb Solo Trip, I was having difficulty in planning the meals. I then took some time and plugged stuff around my spreadsheet and have the plan figured out. If you responded to this before this edit goes through, thanks :) and sorry for any confusion!

So far, this is the plan:
Thu - 4-Feb (MK: AM EMH, HS: PM EMH) - Arrive mid-morning (airport) and check in. Lunch @ Epcot (CS). Dinner @ Epcot (San Angel Inn)
Fri - 5-Feb (Epcot: PM EMH) - Morning @ MK. Lunch @ Epcot (Biergarten). Dinner @ Epcot (Teppan Edo). EMH @ Epcot
Sat - 6-Feb (HS: AM EMH) - EMH @ HS. Lunch @ HS (Sci-Fi). Dinner @ Artist Point (probably earlyish). Either resort or MK after dinner
Sun - 7-Feb (MK: PM EMH) - Morning @ resort or Epcot. Lunch @ Epcot (Le Cellier). Dinner @ MK (Tony's). EMH @ MK
Mon - 8-Feb (AK: AM EMH) - EMH @ AK. Lunch @ AK (CS). Early Dinner @ AK (Boma). MK or Epcot after dinner
Tue - 9-Feb (Epcot: AM EMH) - EMH @ Epcot. Lunch @ HS (50s PT). Dinner @ Yachtsman. Evening @ Epcot or HS
Wed - 10-Feb (AK: PM EMH) - Morning @ MK. Lunch @ MK (LTT). Dinner @ AK (CS)
Thu - 11-Feb (HS: PM EMH) - Morning @ MK. Lunch @ MK (Plaza). ME to MCO afternoon
(Yes, I'm stealing KatMark's tradition here of Plaza on the last day :p. It's a good idea and makes perfect sense though!)

Alan, love the update and the pics are awesome.

Love the selections above--we've done most of them. If you want to change to a meal at AK rather than elsewhere, we really enjoyed Yak & Yeti for table service. The only reason we didn't do it last month is that we did not get to the AK on the "mini" trip.

Enjoying all your updates and your AK pictures. Great shot of the 4 elephants and the lion. I have yet to get a good lion shot and I have been there a million times (ok, not a million, but you get the idea).

Love your tentative plans for Feb. Love Teppan Edo and Artist Point. I also love LTT for lunch. yum Good luck with your ADR's.

Can't wait to here where you guys go next.

Welcome aboard! And yeah, I move it along. I'm too impatient (and bored) to let it draw out :p

As far as the pics go, I host them on my WoW guild's webspace, that I pay for and have plenty of space left over for (and I have unlimited bandwidth through them). Try going to this link and seeing what it does: http://www.cartel-guild.com . Chances are, for whatever reason, the site is blocked from work as they are showing up for others, and myself, just fine, and the few pics that you can see are showing up (they're hosted on a different site).

If need be, I can work something out that wouldn't be too difficult to manage and I know would work on your side (since the pictures you could see are from a different site of mine), just let me know :)

loving your TR. Emily is sooo cute. sounds like you are having fun so far. cant wait to hear more!

Yep! That site is blocked, darned the luck. Don't worry about it. I can read from home, it's just hard to do with a four year old interrupting every coherent thought I have! I'll manage! :goodvibes

Hmmm. We were supposed to be at EPCOT on the Wednesday evening...but we weren't. Almost nothing I planned on this trip went according to plan. At least as far as what days we went where. Can't give too much away. If I'm not careful, I'm going to tell everyone about my whole trip and defeat the purpose of a TR....that I'm never going to write anyway.

Oh well.

We probably didn't cross anywhere...but I'll know as you move along.

I'd tell you to hurry up with the next installment, but you're already making me look bad, so I won't. ;)

I just subscribed- I love your TR! Emily is adorable & I can't wait to read more. :goodvibes I am planning a solo trip in January (14th-18th) & I am enjoying your pre-trip planning for February- I can definitely relate to struggling to choose places to eat! By the way, I went this past February (2-6) & it was a great time to go.

That was a great update Allan. Your pictures of the parade are great. IMHO I think that is one of the best parades Disney has. It really amazes me how they do all that.

People don't care that there are spots on children's clothes in Disney. Heck I think Don and Mike had on their 'eatin shirts' almost everyday. Ok, they aren't children but they eat like them. Always dropping something.

It was nice you got to meet your friend and his family.

Your plans for your solo trip look good to me for sure. I would do that too but daughter Sheri would never let us go without her.

Ginny
The secret is... don't tell them ;). Though, it may be considerably tough since your family is so close.

Thanks :). I looked at Yak & Yeti (and almost did it for this trip), but I'm a pretty (ok, very) picky eater and not much really jumped out at me. I don't eat fish, or poultry, or any seafood, or (much) pork... so that really eliminates a lot of places and a lot of "good" meals. At least I don't get bored of food very easily, so beef every night works just fine for me!

Thanks :). After reading several other TRs, I had pretty low expectations of the lion being out. But there he was, sitting right on the rock sunning himself. If we had gone 20 minutes later, we would have seen the lioness up and about too, as she was out for my friends who were almost right behind us.

I'm really looking forward to those as well. I had originally not planned on LTT, since I didn't particularly care for dinner offerings (not a big turkey fan, or cranberries, or... the list gets longer!), but then I looked up the lunch and it looks good. I am a little disappointed that there will be characters while I'm there (they have them early Jan through 2/15 to cover for the CP refurb), but oh well.

loving your TR. Emily is sooo cute. sounds like you are having fun so far. cant wait to hear more!
Thanks :). The fun is only beginning. The real fun pretty much started on Wednesday when I started to step up more into the title role of this TR (and a certain little girl let that word slip a few times too...). There's some more of Tuesday to get through first, but it's not all fun and games!

Yep! That site is blocked, darned the luck. Don't worry about it. I can read from home, it's just hard to do with a four year old interrupting every coherent thought I have! I'll manage! :goodvibes
That's just strange. Wonder if someone in the office was a guild member and got it "flagged" by your IT dept. Or maybe they just blocked all game related sites. I do have a plan though. I have another domain under the same account/server that I can use, I just have to reupload all the photos to that portion (which is very simple, since I don't depend on stuff like photobucket uploaders and such). It should work if you can get to www.disneybase.net (which I really need to get working on again, it's been stagnant for a couple months now). Try that site, if you can get to it I'll start calling them from there instead. (And, ignore the content for now, it's a work in progress(ish))

Oh trust me, I know all about "The Plan". Many of the things I originally planned for didn't happen either as you'll see in the next chapter (or installment, or update, or whatever the heck you want to call it).

I'll be going through this soon enough, pretty much every morning I update before starting on work (which, may be why I'm so far behind on work this week... hmm..)

Welcome and thanks :)

If only you guys could hear her talking and stuff, the adorable factor goes up by 10. She's so smart and well spoken for being so young. She's also already developing a real sense of humor, and purposely makes her mom laugh by doing silly things (knowing that they're silly). I really could go on about her all day! (And sometimes, I do).

Speaking of which, once I reach Wednesday, I'll have videos to post here too! Though, I'm not entirely sure how to post them, and may have to just link to the video on my own site to do it...

Now, you others may have noticed that site I'm having Mel try this time. It was a project that I started working on and put aside for a bit. It was to be another of these WDW info sites, but this one relating specifically to dining (for now) with reviews, menus, photos, and all that. It started as I originally wanted to give Beth all the menus for all the restaurants before I did the ADRs (so she could help me decide), I started writing them up in Word and thought "There must be an easier way!". Well... this wasn't easier, but it would end up being easier for others. Of course, I got busy with work over the summer and it slid into obscurity. But I still have the plans and the ability to code it up, so will likely restart on the project. (It also served as a format for me to learn a specific programming language, which I learned a lot about in doing it).

And lastly, I've been in Feb a couple times before, though more typically toward the end of the month when we had winter break back home (us way-up-Northerners would get a week at the end of Feb and a week at the end of April off, though always different than the weeks that Massachusetts (yay, first try!) got). It'll be nice after so long though (was about 18 years before this past trip, which was my 9th or 10th, we were a Disney family before it became popular!). The planning is more difficult this time around though, I guess it's mostly due to the fact that I'm going DxDDP, so have much more to choose from. I think with this plan though, assuming I can get most of those ADRs (and I have no problem being up at 2am CDT) it'll go great. Now, I may need to book 2 seats on the plane ride home though...

I'll hopefully be pushing another update out tonight, partly to test the other site and see if Mel can see those (well, she'll be able to from home, but work is the issue). I may not though, it all depends on if I get around to it and remember.

Well, this was a long random rambling from me this time. Good thing we're not on "that other site" or I may be reprimanded for going "off topic" :rolleyes1 (even though, the topic of this TR is basically me.. so everything I say is technically "on topic"!)

Have a good evening everyone.

Pangani Expedition Forest Trail THAT'S the name of that trail I couldn't remember. I was close before...

At anyrate, Beth and I have just satisfied our not-to-be-mentioned needs (no, not THOSE needs... pervs) and we all decided to head up to the Pangani Expedition Forest Trail (I think calling it the P-Trail from now on will suffice). Of course, you remember how it was just after 3pm, so we got blocked by the parade? Yeah, it was now a bit after a little after 3... and the parade was back.

So, we watched the parade again before heading on over to the P-Trail. It wasn't quite as exciting as the first time, but we were also a bit calmer now. Luckily, we caught just the tail end, and in a matter of a few minutes, they were allowing us to cross once again. So, off to the P-Trail we go.

We saw these guys (the tamarans I think they were). The CM there was the most obviously-from-boston guy I've heard. (Even moreso than the people I've met in Boston). Brought back a small wave of homesickness though, as I'm stuck down here in Alabama, and they do not sound like Bostonians at all.

After that, we saw the fish. Now, I have discovered that Emily really loves fish. Doesn't matter what kind, if it has fins and gills, it's her favorite. Beth and I believe that this is why Ariel is her favorite, she looks like a big fish (I guess to a two year old). You may want to remember this point for when we get to Epcot ;)

You can also see that I figured out one more setting on my camera at this point. Aquarium mode. It works very well, but you have to be real close to the glass to avoid reflection.

After the fish and the birds we went to see the Hippo..

22Sept-1587-500.jpg

By now, we were exhausted (and, might I mention 30 minutes late for our 4:40 at Boma). We made our way toward the exit, stopping to take pictures at the cutouts in front of the DVC area (which, are not uploaded or resized, as I forgot to do that with Beth's shots...) and then headed out of the park. By the time we got to the bus area, it was about 5:30pm and we were all crabby. Emily wanted out of the stroller, and Beth and I were getting snippy with each other (which I quickly recognized, apologized for, and kept my mouth shut). (Apologies that there are no more pictures from here on out, until "tomorrow")

Before I continue, I must offer an apology. To anyone who missed out on ADRs for Boma this evening (9/22), I'm sorry. I had every intention to go, all the way up until we got to the buses. I really really wanted to have dinner here, but, alas, that was not to happen.

As you can probably guess, we decided at the very last minute to head back to the resort, rather than head over to AKL for Boma. No call, no show :(. I felt bad about it, but there was no way in heck that we'd have been able to handle it that evening. Derek and his family were going to eat at Rainforest Cafe and invited us along, but I even told them then that we had ressies over at Boma (so you can see how late we decided not to go).

We got on the bus and Beth and Emily got a seat. I played Mr. Pack Mule and stood, sensing something was off. It soon hit me. It was an "I gotta pee" moment. I immediately thought of Lisa, which probably isn't a very good compliment, and attempted to manage throughout the bus ride. Now, I mentioned that we were all crabby, let's just say that Emily was not being a princess this afternoon. She was trying to get up, defying mama, biting (which she learned from her father...) mama, and all sorts of bad behavior. It was very good that we were on our way to the room, rather than dinner!

So, at any rate, we get to CSR and stop before Bus Stop 2 (which is the first stop.. why they never changed the numbers around will be a mystery as great as "Is Walt Disney's frozen head buried at Disneyland?") and wait. We wait some more, and then wait a bit longer. We're sitting on the road (well, we're not sitting on the road, the bus is, Beth and Emily are sitting on the bus, and I'm standing and dancing) for a few minutes behind 2 other buses. Eventually, we move up one spot, and then wait some more. About 5-10 minutes go by and eventually one of the buses in front of us pulls across the road and allows the rest of us through.

So, that potential disaster averted, we eventually make our way to our own bus stop (#4). I walk briskly back to the room and manage to.. well.. you know. Let's just say that I didn't have to walk around with a towel. We all sit down and relax and cool off and then are left deciding on dinner. We decided upon another visit to Pepper Market (we had eaten there for lunch on Monday, I don't remember if I mentioned that, it seems like it was over a week ago, and it was just "yesterday"!)

Dinner was good, and I had a tasty steak ranchero thing. I forgot what they had, but I think it was a Roast Beef sandwich for Beth and probably pizza or nuggets for Emily (who then ate a sizable amount of Beth's sandwich, and barely any of her own food).

We headed back to "Ally's Room" as Emily was now calling it, and got ready for bed. Tomorrow is an early morning at Epcot and breakfast with more princesses!

This was also the time when I really started to step into the title role here. As I mentioned, Emily was being far from princess-like (I know, you can't believe that by looking at the pics on here, but it was true!) and defying her mama a lot. It was time for me to step in as Beth decided to take a shower. After she had some issues trying to defy me, I put her in a "time out" on their bed (she always wanted to get onto mine). She protested, but I stuck to my guns and she did it. After Beth's shower, Emily was starting to behave quite a bit better already (though, I think cooling off and resting a bit also had something to do with that...). For the sake of continuity, I believe that this happened before Dinner, so use your imaginary cut and paste tools again, and put it there.

Ok, Animal Kingdom day is finally done. This took as long to go over as it seemed to take. It was fun, and meeting Derek and his family was great, but it really took a toll on the three of us.

Also, don't worry, Derek, Amanda, and Maddie will make another appearance in this TR (though, still no pictures) in a day or so ;).

Allan:

Another great update last night! You are just rollin' right through this TR. :thumbsup2 The gorilla pictures are so great.

Poor Emily - and the rest of you - It sounds like you guys all just hit the wall after your great day at AK. I'm glad you were able to take control of the situation and help emily get herself together. That's tough when you are tired! But she needed to chill and take a time out and you helped her do that. Strong work!

The pepper market sounds yummy. I stayed at CSR for a few nights in June, but we weren't on the dining plan, so I never ate there because I thought the prices were a bit high to pay OOP.

another great update. at least Emily was starting to behave after you stepped up. i cant believe you missed Boma. you have to do that. its fantastic.

Thanks :). We found the Pepper Market to be pretty good. On our Monday lunch, I got a burger that we good, and Tuesday's steak thing was also good.

I don't think it's quite worth the price though, and the 10% gratuity that is automatically added makes it a bit more costly if not on the DDP (the gratuity is included in the DDP, at least, this year...)

The stepping up was a good feeling, and I really know that Beth appreciated it. She was exhausted and really needed a break, it was a wonderful thing to be able to give it to her.

I was very disappointed to miss out on Boma :(. While neither of us are particularly adventurous eaters, it was something that I really wanted to do. Not just for the good food that I've heard was there, but since it was a buffet, I knew it was a great chance to try and expand both of our tastes (especially mine, since I'm way more picky with some things than her, particularly meats.. I only eat beef, sausages, bacon, and occasionally actual pork). Oh well though, ces't la vie. At least it gives me an excuse to go back in Feb!

So, I last left off after a rough Animal Kingdom day and I have stepped up a bit to fill a needed role. We all got to bed at a reasonable time (we were all really really tired) and things were looking up.

I also had run out to El Centro after dinner to pick up some more needed supplies. Band-aids and ointment (check #2 and 3 that I forgot at WalMart) and some Baby Shampoo (#4). I looked for baby wipes, but decided against them since we still had enough for now (#5 was a 2nd tub of wipes, I only bought 1. I also forgot Cheeze-its, which are both mine and Emily's favorite crackers.... so that's #6).

Wednesday morning came and I was up bright and early (as usual, if only I could adjust my home sleeping time to my Disney one, I'd be first into the office every day!) I went for my quick walk and then came back to the room to get ready. I had set the alarm for about 7:15 as we had a 9:30 ADR at Akershus. In an amazing feat of getting up and ready in the morning, the girls were up and ready by about 7:45, so head headed down to the bus.

23Sept-1600-500.jpg

The Epcot bus came pretty quick and we were soon on our way. We arrived at the gates at around 8:15am... which was considerably early for our 9:30 ADR. We got through bag check and Emily was given a couple stickers:
23Sept-1601-500.jpg

23Sept-1602-500.jpg

Note, these stickers would soon become a permanent part of the stroller..)

We managed to get through the turnstiles and were allowed to walk around for awhile. We meandered our way toward Norway (to see if I could check in early)

So, now that you're bored of seeing pictures, it was time for us to check in for breakfast! I went up to the podium and did my thing and we waited for our name to be called (well, my name... see, even here I'm putting us into a single family.. it was much the same down there too).

We were quickly called and then moved in to meet Belle. Now, as you may have noticed, Emily was wearing a pretty yellow dress in the earlier pictures. I did not tell Beth which princess is typically in the picture for this place, this was pure coincidence. Emily met a very nice Belle who was very sweet with her and commented on her pretty yellow dress.
23Sept-1637-500.jpg

We got seated and given the spiel about how things worked. We were getting good at this. We got a high chair for Emily and then the girls went to get their cold food plates. (The hot food comes out on a family style plate). They came back and I got mine, and then the princesses started coming.

Up first was Aurora, this was while I was getting my food, but Beth was nice enough to get a pic on my camera.
23Sept-1639-500.jpg

Next up was a very sweet Snow White.
23Sept-1640-500.jpg

Third came another very sweet Cinderella (and Emily seemed more interested in her eggs...)
23Sept-1641-500.jpg

And lastly, the one that we had wanted to see most. I knew that our best shot of seeing Ariel at a meal was this one, but I also knew there was still a chance for her to not be there. Well, she was and Emily was more than excited (after she put down the bacon).
23Sept-1642-500.jpg

23Sept-1643-500.jpg

We finished off the breakfast, which once again, had amazing potatoes. This would be the best breakfast of our entire trip really. The food was great, the service was stellar, and the interaction was very good. After breakfast (and our normal stop), we headed off to see the "fishies".
23Sept-1644-500.jpg

23Sept-1645-500.jpg

I love all pictures. It is too cute that Beth put her in the yellow dress. Emily is such a little princess herself.

We forget stuff all the time when we go to WDW with our 3yr old. I swear one day I will remember it all.

Awesome update, Allan. "Your" princess looks beautiful in her yellow dress.

Emily looks well rested this morning. What a difference a good night's sleep will make. She looks like a little princess herself in that pretty little yellow dress. She doesn't need one of thosefancy princess outfit to make her look like royalty.

I have always wanted to have breakfast in Norway, but I never do because I always think I should be there with a little girl and there are no girls in my family - only lots of boys.

Lovely pictures of Norway!

Hey Allan, I missed your update last night and this afternoon. But now I'm all caught up. Poor Emily just got too tired at AK. That was a long day for a little one. Glad you were able to figure it out and not push yourselves to do dinner at Boma. We enjoyed Pepper Market too. They seemed to have a good variety of food.

Princess Emily looks so pretty in her yellow dress. It appears she is a good eater. That is always nice for them not to be terribly picky.

Ii so enjoy all of your pictures. I am so not a good picture taker.

Great pictures! Allen...Animal Kingdom seems like the smallest park but to me it is the one park that I find wears everyone out the quickest...I think it is the heat! and I love AK! but the excitment of the other parks is not the same!

What a wonderful start to a day in Epcot! I love how empty the park is!!!! Great Princess shots although you were right Emily looks like the food had more appeal

Have a great weekend!
