LONDON - A DNA test will be performed to determine if a 13-year-old boy fathered a baby with his 15-year-old girlfriend, his spokesman said Monday.

The test comes after a Sunday tabloid newspaper reported that two other teenage boys have come forward claiming to be the father of the newborn baby girl.

Spokesman Max Clifford said the parents of Alfie Patten, 13, said the tests would be done "as soon as possible" to determine paternity.

"He obviously believes he's the father," Clifford said. "I think that having read the News of the World yesterday, it would be prudent to have a DNA test."

The teenager's 15-year-old girlfriend, Chantelle, gave birth to the baby girl earlier this month in Eastbourne, 70 miles southeast of London. The couple made headlines in Britain when Alfie, who looks much younger than 13, posed on the front page of the tabloid Sun newspaper with the baby.

The local council where the teenagers live said it would offer them support and that they will continue to be monitored by social workers to determine what help they might need.

Patten allegedly was 12 when he fathered the child, and his girlfriend was 14.

I think they'll be really upset if they don't get a DNA result in their favour as it will mean they won't be able to make money out of it. I hope if it is negative that the Press refuse to pay them for their story. No interest in the poor baby , just in the fame and finance.

I see today that his Mum is now up in court for failing to make sure he attended school ( now we know where he's been spending his time). BTW, his Mum is an awfully old looking 43 year old. Anyone else wonder where she's got enough money to afford an $800,00 home and all the posh cars that were seen in her driveway ?

I just read the article about the paternity claims about Alfie's parents getting money and stuff. Since I read the article on Friday I have wondered about the possibility of Alfie not being the father. Alfie seems naive in a lot of ways. He even said he doesn't know the true financial cost of a raising a child. Maybe he did sleep with Chantelle but maybe Chantelle was unsure of the paternity and basically let Alfie think he is the father when he may not be. I have known people who have been in that situation as teens and adults. When I was in high school one of my friends believed for awhile he was the father of an ex girlfriend's baby. My friend had broken up with his girlfriend and a few months later she told him she was pregnant. My friend basically put everything aside for her and believed he was the father. His parents had doubts mainly because my friend's ex girlfriend lived in a town 30 miles away from our town and she attended a different school. Shortly after the baby was born my friend's parents urged him to take a paternity test and it confirmed he wasn't the father. I think Alfie's parents clearly are trying to milk the situation for money. Maybe they had doubts of Alfie being the father but maybe they also thought the other possible fathers would never come out and so they just decided to let everyone believe Alfie is the father even though they are unsure.
