Who?
Jennifer (D4D)

What?
Solo trip to WDW

When?
May 18-25

Where?
POFQ

Why?
I was there on business… kind of.

A first solo trip and a first trip report (assuming this actually gets finished and posted). I was planning on getting a journal to write down the happenings on my trip and observations, but that never happened. By the end of every night though, I was whooped and nothing would have been written down anyway! The longer I wait to write down these thoughts the more I forget what I was going to say. This trip report will probably be more of a collection of thoughts rather than a play-by-play report, bear that in mind.

Arrival:
I had a great 9:35 am flight out of PHL and we landed right on time at about noon. Now going solo has its pros and cons. One of the cons is that you can’t split up to accomplish tasks. So instead of heading for the baggage claim area I went right down stairs for my car.

“Oh look, a long line. That must be mine.” (This becomes a running theme)

I really like using Alamo. They have great prices and their agents tend to be knowledgeable and helpful, all 4 of them. Because that’s how many are there no matter how long the line is. Here’s a suggestion, have someone standing where the line starts handing out info about rental car insurance. No one really understands it and our vacationing brain cells just can’t handle the pressure to make that decision at the counter.

First Impressions:
Why is it that I can get to WDW from MCO on autopilot, yet I can get lost on my way home from work? Odd, isn’t it?

This was my first time staying at POFQ. Before this I had stayed at CSR and my new home, SSR. POFQ is small in comparison. One bus stop? Maybe that’s a good thing, oh wait, POR has 4 bus stops and we share a bus; never mind. As I head towards room #4123 I realize that I have a parking lot view. That’s OK though, there’s a beautiful courtyard between my room and the parking lot. To my surprise the room had a king size bed, and a pocket door for the bathroom… wait a minute. This is a handicapped accessible room! No! This isn’t what I had in mind. It doesn’t look like the pictures I had seen and it was going to ruin the Disney-ness for me. Right? Hmmm… King size bed, larger shower, more countertop space in the bathroom, and prime location? This room ROCKS! I can’t believe I didn’t have to pay extra for it! I was 30 seconds from the food court, pool, parking lot, and bus stop. Another 30-second walk would get me to the boat launch. I’ve heard a few people complain about getting handicapped rooms and ask to switch, but I can’t think of why. I guess they really want a bathtub?

MK Evening EMH:
My first Disney meal was at The Plaza Restaurant in MK (not counting my Earl of Sandwich lunch). The Plaza is a nice little place. I think I’ve walked by it every time and never noticed it. I was sat at a cute little table in the corner.

Oh, this is the wrong table?

I was relocated to a table next to the kitchen. Boo. It didn’t ruin my meal though; I guess someone has to sit there. The chicken and strawberry salad (I’m a sucker for fruit in my salad) was yummy and in true Disney fashion, big! The only thing I didn’t care for was the garlic crouton that came with it (and the red onions, but I 86’d them when I ordered it). The Plaza lacked some of the atmosphere that other MK eateries have and it was loud, but the food and service were good, plus the price was appropriate.

Wishes was close at hand by the time I finished dinner so I found a recycle bin near the hub to set up my mini-tripod and camera. Wishes marked the end of the night for some, but not for resort guests like me! I wandered into Tomorrowland wondering where I could get my wristband. POOF! There’s a sign right there by Buzz saying I can get my wristband there. Excellent! They were doing a really good job of enforcing the wristbands in my opinion. People were turned away from rides without them. It wasn’t crowded at all; it felt more like a hard ticketed night. I walked on to Buzz, Space Mountain, the people mover, Pooh’s ride, and Phillarmagic.

To be continued.

It sounds like that first day was a blast...and that fate was your friend, except for when it came to the long lines, of course! Can't wait to read more!
