Today Disney announced D23 a fan site / magazine membership http://d23.disney.go.com/index.html?cmp=d23_OFC_D23_vanity_23_Extl and the cost is $75.00 USD and it says free shipping and handling is included but if you try to have it sent to Canada they add $50.00 for International shipping. I was going to join but I refuse to pay $160.00 Canadian just to join this club.
Is anybody here planning to join, or have you already?

no way, way not worth it... /That is why i also do not shop at Disney on line, the shipping, and then customs kills the whole deal. Not sure why i can shop other US stores for way less fees but Disney doesn't seem to miss the Canadian money:confused3 And with the dollar low, how much will that subscription turn into:headache:

I'm hoping the Disney Store will have the glossy...otherwise the next time I'm OTR I'll pop into Barnes & Noble to check it out. I agree on the additional shipping cost being out of whack.

Yet again the "international" shipping issue bites Canadians in the... posterior. They need to figure out there is no trans-ocean travel involved!!!!

The $75 membership fee is bad enough, but add in the current exchange and then tp charge shipping... when it's free within the U.S.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I agree that the membership is kinda of steep but I think that it would be really cool to be able to attend a convention with other Disney lovers. A special gathering at the Parks would be pretty neat as well.

This membership is definetly not in the cards for me. I used to join the old Magic Kingdom Club years ago for $29.99 but at least you used to get discounted rooms with that. With this membership you get the right to buy tickets to a convention........ The powers to be at Disney are struggling

You can still attend the convention without the membership. Membership only gets you a "discount" on the entrance fee to the convention - who knows what the price of that would be? $$$:rolleyes1

I can't believe $50 shipping :scared1:! I was on the fence about joining (thought I'd try it for a year anyway) but after reading your post I will definitely NOT be joining!!

Between the shipping charge, exchange rate, added duty on delivery (not sure about duty but definately not willing to risk it)..... I'm not joining. If we could pay the same rate as our southern neighbours I would join for sure.

Hmmm, maybe if I start leaving the letter U out of words like "neighbour", do you think that would fool them...??;)

OK, I know that it is still alot but we went to join and only had to pay $24.95 for shipping (it did say via international shipping). Maybe we did something wrong?

You didn't do anything wrong I noticed they dropped the price of shipping. I had at least four emails going back and forth to them about the shipping cost. I think $24.95 is still expensive.

Agreed! :sad2:

I checked today and it seems that they have reduced the shipping to Canada by 50%. I still think that charging 33% of the cost of the product as shipping costs is ridiculously high. I happen to work for a trucking company and would love to be able to charge our customers with such a formula.

The total price still works out to $100.00 before the exchange. More than I think you get in value from joining.

We get a lot of magazines from the US, and I don't think I've ever paid more than $10 extra (and that was for 10-12 issues per year)

I was planning to join, but decided against it because of the shipping charges. Even though they're now reduced, it's not enough (Canada is right next door) I'm also wondering whether it would be worth bothering to join at all, since they obviously haven't got it all figured out yet. Will it even be around in 6 mos. or a year from now? I have my doubts.

I went and asked at the Disney store in the Eaton centre and they siad they would be getting them in, but in October ! They also handed my a flyer to join the club online. Not worth it for me either. But I will pick one up when/if I go to US.

For anyone that did purchase a D23 membership with the $50.00 shipping rate, DisneyShopping has since sent emails informing those members that they will receive a $25 gift card to use at the D23 Boutique or on www.DisneyShopping.com.
