D23 members - the parks

Hi everyone,
I just got bought a D23 charter membership (just waiting for my kit to arrive!) and I was just wondering, if you wear D23 clothing, or display your D23 membership card at the parks on a lanyard etc, does anyone notice? Are there any benefits in the parks of being a D23 member?

Also - with the 2009 charter membership, do you still get the downtown disney discount which is advertised with the 2010 memberships?

And lastly, can you buy D23 merch in the parks (eg if you show your D23 membership card you can buy it?

There are special D23 events occassionally, but in general you don't get any benefits in the parks. I wore t-shirts from D23 a couple of times at the parks and other events, and this was noticed twice - both times at Science Fiction conventions.

In November I didn't see any D23 merchandise at the parks either.

As for the announced discounts, has there even a date been announced for the next promotion? All I saw mentioned were "periodical discounts" with the new announcements for 2010. I think something like that was running with the 2009 membership as well, but I am sure someone has more info than me.

Do people notice you're wearing D23 stuff? Sure. People notice all sorts of things. I see D23 hats and shirts occasionally. I am not a member, but I went to the D23 convention and bought a D23 hat that I wear to the Park sometimes. So... not everyone wearing D23 stuff is a member.

Special discounts in the Park? That one I can't answer, but I'm sure it's in your membership benefits somewhere. Someone here will probaby answer that part.

Directly from the D23 web site regarding merchandise (I added the bold):

"What kind of merchandise is associated with D23?

A variety of exclusive merchandise and collectible opportunities are available for D23 members, including logo merchandise, unique pins, figurines, lithographs, and more. The ever-growing assortment is featured on the D23 Web site in Boutique 23. Some of these collectibles will be D23 member-exclusive, limited edition items from the new Walt Disney Archives Collection. D23 members also will have exclusive merchandise and collectibles opportunities at the D23 Expo."

I know they sell the D23 magazine in the Park. It is available to everyone (not ut members), as I bought one.

Yea I know we can buy the stuff online. It would be nice if they had some stuff available in the parks so we could see the stuff in person before we buy it.

this is interesting.. i know as of 2010 they are doing select discounts at venues in dtd.

but i was hoping for discount at like the emporium on main st. or like thursday night at world of disney get 15 % off everything if u spend like 300 bucks or more

We go to WDW all the time and ware matching outfits as do many others.

When we went to DL people stared at us like we were freaks, we felt really uncomfortable.

You will definitely be noticed if you ware D23 or other Disney clothing.

I am a D23 charter member. I have worn a D23 t-shirt at DL, and I have been asked what it meant. D23 is a club for the ultimate Disney fan. We are offered special events, and merchandise only at the on-line site, as there are no stores at DL or WDW for this club.

rstamm, I am sorry you felt uncomfortable wearing matching outfits at DL. I see people in matching outfits and t-shirts at DL every time I go.

Btw I just came back from Disneyland and nobody, and I mean nobody, in Downtown Disney would give me a discount for my D23 membership. Only when I showed them my DVC membership card would they give me the 10%. Even then some of them would have to "check" or "go ask the manager" because they had never seen them before. Even after checking with the manager noone honored the D23 discounts. We were the last ones in the Ridemakerz and the manager was training a new girl and while we were checking out I showed them my D23 card and he said that it's no good there. I then showed them the DVC card and he showed the cashier how to put in the discount code. He told the trainee, "I'm glad they brought this in because we don't see very many of these". I told him that he should check on the D23 membership cards because he will probably start seeing more of those too!

This Card's sole purpose is to confirm the current D23 Membership status of the D23 Member whose name appears on it. When presented along with valid photo identification and required paid admission, ticket or reservation, this Card also grants the D23 Member access to D23 member special events, including one-hour early admission to the D23 Expo, but does not guarantee entry when space is limited. D23 Members do receive discounts in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort.

If this discount is not being honoured, I would recommend speaking to a Guest Relations Host or Hostess at City Hall in Disneyland Park or the Guest Relations Lobby in Disney's California Adventure Park, so that the Company can be aware of the issue and remind our Operating Participants of the committment they have made in this regard.
