D23 EXPO THREAD - See you in 2019!

Just a comment about OUAT panel. I got in, barely, on the overflow line. (It was a late decision to go up there, alone, my friends do not watch that show). I enjoyed the panel, but much of it was just telling us nothing, lol. Saying we can't tell you this or that. It got better when they focused on funny stories about the cast, or filming scenes, etc. Overall, I was slightly disappointed. Just slightly, because I did enjoy it overall.

Some of my favorite past "smaller"panels? ( Leaving out here the big ones I usually see. ) Voices of the Parks, Little Mermaid ride development, "new" Star Tours ride, Monsters University, Carsland panel, Pixar panel, Merrie Melody concert. I know I am forgetting some good ones. I would love to see some more ride development ones, and some focused on Marvel or Star Wars. It is fun to discuss the various panels while on the lines with other guests. Everyone is cool, strangers share snacks, play card games, swap stories. Honestly, the lines are sort of ok.

I have had only limited success with Stage Pass, often if you attend the large panels, you may not really able to grab the Stage Passes or Shopping passes. However you could send a "runner" to grab them, if they brought the groups passes with them. I was sometimes alone, so that was not possible. (my friends are not into Marvel, Star Wars, OUAT, etc like me! So I venture off on my own, and it is fine!)

Keep in mind that there has been no confirmation that they are doing over-night line ups. No reason to think not, but also nothing specific has been said.

Still impatient for more details...and hopefully Sorcerer shopping information.

We tentatively made a schedule and chose Parks & Resorts over Live Action... but also got into both in 2015. So anecdotal note: it was possible, but in 2017? Who knows.

Absolutely. Hopefully we get the full schedule soon. Hoping the crowd control this year is better too. I remember quite vividly the disorganization last Expo. The lines outside to get in the first day were chaotic. But overall what a great event! So excited for this year. Excited for the people that got Sorcerer Package too!

What time did people start lining up for shopping/show floor last Expo? Seems like 6 am was a popular time...

...

This is my first ever and probably only D23 Expo so I need to make the most of it.
Airline ticket booked, hotel booked, D23 tickets booked. And since I'm going several days before it for some Disneyland park time, I need to get those tickets in advance too.

Just wanted to say hey! We sat next to each other at the Cirque DIS podcast taping last year, right? Maybe we'll run into each other again at D23 :)

The only shopping I really want to do is Mickey's of Glendale. I got in there when I did the backstage magic ABD in December and it was sooo amazing! And they were having their Christmas sale. I spent so much money and I still wear all the stuff I got. Whenever I wear my Imagineering sweatshirt to DL I always get some questioning looks (I find guests at WDW don't seem to notice/care).

I know what you mean about the Once panel, but I love love love Lana Parilla, so I wasn't too disappointed. I did wish Jennifer Morrison had been there as well, but I know they were doing the whole "Snow White and the Evil Queen" thing. It was way better than the Once panel in 2013. That one was mostly taken up by a preview of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and only Adam and Eddie were there. They told us a little about OUAT, but it was mostly about Wonderland...which I never ended up watching, and then it got canceled.

I hope they give us the full schedule soon too. Then I'll decide if I want to try for a big panel. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It depends on what I'd have to miss to see them.

Yup - that was me. Hi! Mickey's of Glendale is one of the shopping places I want to go into. I've been saving up for shopping at D23. LOL

Today I was sewing a tote bag and thought wonder what people bring to the expo to put their snacks/water in, small notepad for notes, camera and batteries and anything small they pick up at the expo? Backpacks? Big messenger bag? I was thinking of bringing my medium size Animal Kingdom backpack but didn't know if that would work.

Last time I brought a small/medium backpack for snacks, layers (jacket), camera, and the other usual things. I'll probably do the same this year, though I need a new backpack to bring.

I actually bring a pretty big backpack. I don't go with it full, but that way I have plenty of room for any essentials I'll need during the day, a light jacket, and any shopping or free goodies. I like having my hands free and not worrying about a bunch of random pieces to keep track of when I'm on the go.

They do give out free usable bag type tote bags, usually. I used to carry my own tote bag, then switched to a medium sized backpack last time. Light jacket is a good idea, some of the rooms are freezing (better than the alternative). I was thinking about getting something to sit on for the longer lines (I am getting older!) but I would hate to have more to carry all day so I will tough it out. I bring my Kindle, and do read quite a bit, but also talk to people on the lines even more. People bring fun card games, we played Apples to Apples Disney version on one line. (me alone on that line, it was a bunch of mostly strangers to each other playing)

They make some pretty light weight con/camp chairs now. They fold down to comfortably fit in a standard backpack. Saw a bunch at SW Celebration.

@GaSleepingBeautyFan I have a Harveys 60th Anniversary Poster Tote that is the perfect size to hold everything AND is large enough to hold everything I might pick up. And it's super comfortable, a win-win.

I'm excited to bring a Kindle this year! I didn't have one at the last expo. Though you're right...I do chit chat a lot with strangers in line. I was thinking about something to sit on. I don't really need a chair or a cushion, I just didn't want to sit directly on the ground in the mornings. I wanted something lightweight and cheap. I found a pretty large string backpack for $3 in the Dollar Spot at Target. I think it's going to work for exactly what I need.

Does anyone think that getting into Legend's and Animation is feasible? I'd love to go to both...

How much space are you allowed in Hall E?

Trying to think of ideas that might end up being smaller panel topics... any movies, shows, rides (I know about Pirates), etc that are having any major anniversaries?
The Goofy Movie Panel was amazing...

Hi All,

We are thinking of going to the Expo, but we haven't ever been to a big con before (they are much smaller in the UK) and have no idea what to expect. The only panel I really want to see is the Live action on Saturday and we are more than happy to get up super early to go to it. However I'm not sure if we should book 1 or 3 day tickets? We aren't big shoppers so I cant see us buying much mainly something with the Expo logo on.

Any tips would be great. Thanks

@kara1987 There will be a lot of vendors (both company presented and collectibles), displays on the floor, the Archive exhibit...one day, with so much time devoted to the Live Action panel, may leave you wishing you could see more.

You may want to look at past Expos on You-Tube and social media sites to see if you think you'd be OK with just one day.

Yeah ... really waiting to see what the smaller panel schedule looks like before we commit to anything just yet. But I'm thinking we go all in on Parks and Resorts and one of the Alan Menkin shows and let the other stuff sort itself out. Since we're staying local to the center, at least we don't have any logistics to worry about. Backpack for light provisions, electronics and whatnot and we're ready to roll.
