D23 Expo September 9-11, 2022 Superthread **Updates in Posts 2 & 3**

I am preferred and didn't receive an email at all. It would be nice if they send the reject emails too. What was the heading on the email from them?
I sent D23 an email. They said to wait until Wednesday, September 7, to see if I get an email☹️ I fly out at 5am Thursday and that’s only 2 days before the expo starts, so that’s going to be tough.

Yes. People will start lining up for the first panel in hall d23 when they open security. The afternoon panels do not allow lineups until the morning panel has started.
Thanks for the information. The Parks panel is Sunday at 10am on Sunday. I believe the information stated the security lines would begin at 5am? (Maybe 6). If they wanted to get standby for Parks they should be there by security opening time? (based on previous experiences if you happen to know!) Thanks again for all the assistance!

I had a stage pass in 2019 so I showed up around 7am for the 10:30am panel. In prior years the panel was on Saturday afternoon after the movies panel.

Myself and two other friends are going for the first time and tried to coordinate our RSPs. For the ones we didn’t get together, the 3rd person will go shopping while the other 2 go to the panels. We got mousequerade, princess concert, imagineering, vets, and legends. Weirdly none of us got giveaways or signings. We are going to skip Legends since it’s live streamed and go to our BoxLunch reservation at the time time.
When did boxLunch start reservations go live? When I got that email it was showing nothing available to book?

A while ago I guess. I'm in the same boat as you. I got the email within minutes of it sending and checked the link and nothing was available. So either it sold out in two minutes or the link went live shortly after I had opened it.

Not sure how my friend did it. She asked me if we wanted to book a reservation and I didn’t even know it was a thing. Good thing she booked a time without waiting for me to respond (work life). I checked a bit after her and this was a couple days after the link went live (thinking I’d get another day just in case) so she must have gotten extremely lucky.

I'm wondering if they haven't actually loaded the complete schedule of reservations yet.

I say that only because - if you look at the reservation page on mobile, the "opening hours" on the page are really screwy:

Is everyone guaranteed one experience at the expo?
I haven't seen any language to that effect. You're guaranteed entry if you have a ticket. With three days, I'm sure you can at least do one experience if you're willing to wait in line!

Are they really gonna be strict about not letting you bring in sealed bottles of water? Or if you bring in snacks like the cliff bars or belvita crackers?

What are y'all strategies for passing time while in line? We're going to do the things we got RSPs for but think we want to wait in line for a couple more panels. Striking conversations would be nice provided folks around us are friendly! We'll also download podcasts and have some reading materials.

It’s hard to tell. I don’t remember the water situation last time. I know they said no food last time. I brought in a small amount of snacks without issue, but I heard that others had to throw theirs out. I would assume that anything you try to bring will need to be thrown out, I will still be bringing some snacks. I might bring whatever water happens to be in my refillable bottle.

I just think with the heat wave and all they might be a little lenient. I hope. I think i might do both empty and one full sealed.

I also sent them an email. They said there was a batch that is gonna need to be resent. Of course im in that batch. But there selection process is still messed up. They told me i got the live princess concert on Sunday but thats also part of the preferred seats. So that randomization is an epic failure since i couldn't select it and i still got it.

Did they say when they were going to resend them?

Just kind of how these expos go.

It's about 80% frustration and waiting in lines, and maybe 5% amazing awesome things happen which make up for the 80% of line waiting and frustrations and makes some of us keep coming back time and again. Even though it's truly not a completely 100% fun event.

This. Sometimes I end up not getting something I thought I wanted and the backup option ends up being even better. No matter how frustrating some of the logistics are, I never regret going and I always have multiple amazing experiences.

So, if you didn’t get an email about your reservations, someone else was told by D23 that it meant that they didn’t get any selections. We have 3 different answers now. Typical ☹️

only panels I was wanting were hall 23 but seems like need to queue up 5 hours before so means nothing gets done. Again as said before doing anything Disney is not as fun as it was. Why should i have to have a strategic plan to have fun? All I will say at this point my expectations are not being met.

And why are they crowded is cause of corporations put profits over quality and experience. Oh and 5% of those super fans are greedy cause they will go to these events buy everything in sight and take and put it on eBay. experienced this first hand at the wdw 50th day 1. Greed is taking the fun out of everything.
As many have said before, it's a convention. Never go to SDCC or NYCC if something as small as D23 gets ya like this. It's not greed, it's simply simply and demand. A lot more ppl want to go into the shop/panels/etc than there is room for. Every single convention worth going to needs a strategy to do your priorities, it is what it is.

Be grateful that if you stand in line that early it's still lesser time than standing in hours or days for sdcc for Marvel. With the lines queuing at 5 am everyone has an equal chance at panels since no one is staying overnight and having buddies save spots.
Precisely, SDCC Marvel panel on Saturday, my group lined up on Friday 4ish am. We did shifts of a few hrs each and enjoyed the rest of the day elsewhere. D23 sounds like a breeze.
