As someone who has never been to Disneyland (or even California for that matter), I was looking up information on the arriving airport options. What I found was while LAX was overall cheaper and had more flight options, the distance from the park paired with the horror stories I've heard (flights taxiing for an hour) were enough to turn me off of it. We are flying into Santa Ana (or John Wayne, whatever it's called). The pro for Santa Ana was that it's closer to the resort. I've read it's only about a 20/30 minute drive, plus we get a free (or possibly cheap) shuttle since we are staying at a Good Neighbor hotel. Some cons were that the airport is small which means less flights competing, which mean higher prices, and it closes early, which means earlier flights.
Since we preferred early flights, we weighed how valuable our time was compared to the amount of money we were saving between Santa Ana and LAX. We decided to pay a bit of a premium to get to the parks faster.
