Being that the company HQ and disneyland are in Anaheim it's unlikely they will have in expo on the east coast. They did hold on in Tokyo for the first time.Yes, eBay is going to be your best bet. Start saving your $ as you'll need it for any items you bid on. I'd like to attend a D23 Expo but I just can't justify the cost of airfare from the east coast. I keep hoping that one of the Expo's will be held in Florida
Well, a Disney fan can certainly dream about the possibility. There's another D23 Expo coming to Tokyo in November 2015. I sure a portion of the problem in having an expo in Florida is the cost to ship all of the displays, costumes, models, etc from California to Florida. I would think that the convention centers at the Dolphin and Swan could handle an expo.Being that the company HQ and disneyland are in Anaheim it's unlikely they will have in expo on the east coast. I think you just have to hit it right. I'm flying from the east coast (Hartford to be specific) and I found a round trip flight for $700 (including taxes and fees). It's a United Airlines flight in the morning, only one lay over each way (neither of them longer than 2 hours). $700 per person isn't chump change, but it's a lot better than most other flights I found (about $600 for one way, totally over $1200 round trip!).
Thanks for the info. For the area of South Carolina I live in, my only option is US Airways. When I've checked flights, they are generally in the same range you quoted - $1,000 to $1,200 for a flight. I can usually get a flight to Orlando for around $250.
How close are you to Charlotte?
I just checked earlier and from here (Charlotte) to LAX I could get round trip for about $500.

As someone who has never been to Disneyland (or even California for that matter), I was looking up information on the arriving airport options. What I found was while LAX was overall cheaper and had more flight options, the distance from the park paired with the horror stories I've heard (flights taxiing for an hour) were enough to turn me off of it. We are flying into Santa Ana (or John Wayne, whatever it's called). The pro for Santa Ana was that it's closer to the resort. I've read it's only about a 20/30 minute drive, plus we get a free (or possibly cheap) shuttle since we are staying at a Good Neighbor hotel. Some cons were that the airport is small which means less flights competing, which mean higher prices, and it closes early, which means earlier flights.
Since we preferred early flights, we weighed how valuable our time was compared to the amount of money we were saving between Santa Ana and LAX. We decided to pay a bit of a premium to get to the parks faster.
