D23 2021 - Anyone else wondering if it will happen or when?

I got to thinking about my vacations in 2019, which included a CA/NV trip around attending D23 2019. If I remember right, we found out the dates around the end of March 2018. I am not sure yet if I will do D23 in 2021, but I would love to be able to do so. Knowing the dates, would help me be able to see if there is anything else I need to work around.

We've been wondering about this, too. Tickets "should" go on sale this August. Given the current restrictions on crowds and the guidelines on social distancing, etc., it is difficult to imagine how Expo could go on as usual. On the other hand, a LOT can happen in a year as far as medical advances go, so maybe the show could still go on? Even if it would be in a somewhat subdued fashion? I do hope that they don't have to cancel it completely. We would really miss it.

We went to the last two D23 Expos. My family and I were wondering about this too. We discussed if there was any way to social distance at the Expo. Especially in the basement/dungeon waiting area. I know it's a year away but we always reserve the hotels a year ahead and buy the tickets as soon as they become available.

I was thinking about Expo the other day too. I wonder if Destination D will still happen. I don't think tickets have gone on sale for that and it is supposed to be in November.

I've been to the last 2 expos and would love to go to next year's. I'm not planning to because I'm trying to save up for WDW's 50th. Before all of this I was trying to figure out how I could do both, but now that's unlikely.

Anyway, I think Disney should move forward with plans for D23 next year. They can always cancel. Unless things drastically improve, there's no way the expo can have as many people as they did in years past. What they could do is sell a reduced number of tickets when they initially go on sale, and then if things really do go back to "normal" later, they can release more tickets.

They have not gone on sale yet, however D23 has not pulled it from the calendar yet.

I've been to every Expo since 2013 and I honestly don't know if next year will happen.

I think we might see a very abridged ticketing/hotel booking schedule if 2021 happens. It could be an announcement later in 2020, with tickets on sale early 2021. Many hardcore Disney fans would certainly buy tickets if they announced the Expo tomorrow (I would!), but they would then have to offer refunds to thousands of people if things don't improve (which is likely).

I guess the safest thing to do would be moving it to 2022 and migrating to an even year schedule. But what does that mean for the Parks opening (and staying open) and every other large event in 2021?!

This would mean changing the schedule for Destination D as well, since it alternates years with Expo.

I did not think I would be able to do D23 in 2021, but I started a new job in January with more vacation days so there is a possibility I will have enough days. I am not much of a planner, but have realized at this new job, I need to schedule any vacations during the summer months as soon as possible. There are 4 of us that need to try not to overlap more than a couple days off and between us, our vacation days cover almost 1/3 of a year and I have the least days at 20.
