D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

Hey! I didn't know we were going to get live updates?! Cool beans! (okay, I dont' know where that came from, I don't think I've said that since Jr. High!)

:worship: for passports / visas on time!

:worship: for a safe arrival!

:worship: for making to the picnic!

:worship: for a home cooked meal!

Can't wait to hear more - are you going to have internet access throughout the whole trip?

Mary~

I voted. I'm not ready to make it back in full swing just yet, but I'll check in every so often. Your welcome to give me a call any time, I would love to hear from you.

Take your time; sometimes it takes more time than we think. Praying for you!

I am headed to Disney TODAY!!!!!! :woohoo: :yay: :cool1: :dance3: :cheer2:

I hope you're having a WONDERFUL trip with Sarah!! I wish your foot felt better, so you could enjoy it more!

Hi Liesa, I am relieved to hear that so far your travel was at least rather safe! I hope you will make your way over to Kyrgystan safely and with less hectic. I am glad that you got to see at least something of your son's graduation. :goodvibes

Camille, great to see you posting again! I hope you will get through your difficult times soon!!

And I love glennbo's chapter titles! :thumbsup2

Actually, we got to see the entire graduaion- it was the awards ceremony we missed. The graduation was the most amazing, EMOTIONAL thing I"ve been to in a VERY LONG TIME!! I don't think I've cried so much in years!!! I was a complete blathering, sobbing Mama.

I'll share the whole thing after I get back and get my pix uploaded, but with only 12 graduates, each one was honored individually, and blessed. There were mother/son- father/ daughter dances, a VERY cathartic slide show showing each one grow up through the years, songs sung that were WRITTEN and performed by the students themselves, etc....

Oh I just need a place to post how sad I am that my TR has been closed!! I already emailed the moderators and hope to get it opened up again. I wonder wether I did something wrong??? :confused3:confused3:sad1::scared1:

Just posted on it; I think you're good to go! :thumbsup2

We're going to drive as far as we can. Pretty much, we'll leave right after dinner on the 29th and drive until we can't drive no more. Or, if we're feeling too tired, we'll stay a night in a Bethesda hotel and wake up bright and early the next morning. It's a 14 hour drive from Bethesda to CBR in Disney so we'll see how long we can drive. Maybe we'll stop in Savannah, Georgia. Bubba is pretty prepared with just coming home from her roadtrip. She's leaving tomorrow for Disney....I'm so jealous.

How are things going on your end?

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAD TRIP!!!!!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Guess neither of you will be having ice wine for dessert with us. :lmao:

Good day, Liesa. I'm still flying high on our Blackhawks victory last night to become Stanley Cup Champions (and thanks again for the good wishes on my PTR). Didn't get much sleep...too hyped up and finally fell asleep around 2 a.m. and was up at 5:15 for work...going to be a long day. But so worth it.

Hope you are having a great day today. :)

Fun stuff watching your team take a big one!! AFter that adrenaline wears off though, you're gonna be TIRED!! ;)

Well, after tonight, those are going to come to a complete and total screeching halt- UNLESS they happened to have internet at our "resort". (VERY doubtful!)

Everything was going mostly fine until....

LAST NIGHT

READ ON....

Things were going swimmingly up until we were driving home from the most amazing, emotional, uplifting graduation I've EVER been to.

Each of the 12 graduates was honored and blessed individually, given incredibly meaningful charges, prayed over, memorialized with a slide show, etc.... But more on that after I get back. I'm still letting it all settle down into my heart and processing the deeply cathartic happenings of last evening. I don't think I've cried so much in YEARS!!

So, we were on the way "home" to our host's house, and the entire electrical system of the car had a major meltdown. Lights dimmed, tachometer, speedometer stopped, warning lights of all shapes and colors, started to have a freaking hayday! Bwoop, bwoop!! Red alert.

Mike's been under the car all morning trying to diagnose, and he thinks he's fixed it enough to where we, at worst, won't have any A/C. He's grumpy and not talking about it, so, I can't tell what exactly is going on.

Normally, I wouldn't worry too much, but this car needs to get us to the airport and home at 1:00 AM tonight!!!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

We have called a backup ride, and that actually may work out really well. Our Area Leader (the same guy who dealt with our passports and visas) is going out to meet a short term team coming on the arriving flight- which then turns around and goes back to Germany an hour later, the same one my kids are on. So, if the car can't be fixed, we'll have him take us- just a wee bit earlier. UGH!! Can we NOT catch a break??

So, will we be able to get there and back tonight?? Can the car be restored to a safe mode of operation? For that we'll ALL have to wait..... ;)

praying God will cover your situation and you will be on the plane safe and sound.

Thanks so much, Tammie!!! They are out there jumpstarting the car now; I guess that's good news. :confused3

This plane tonight is just for our 2 oldest kids to get on. I have a feeling more tears will freely flow tonight. :sad1:

You are coming and going so much, I get confused! I got tears in my eyes just thinking about it - been there - not fun. More prayers and hugs for you!:grouphug:

Oh no!!!!!:scared1: I hope the car gets fixed and you can properly send of your kids.
I just heard on the news that there ist further trouble in Kyrgystan - I hope it is not in the region you are travelling!!!!

Oh no!! I hope your car will be repaired and functioning again!! And Safe travels to everyone in your family! I will keep you in my thoughts! And I will be looking forward to the update on the ceremony! For how Long did Andrew attend this school?

Nope, the car is beyond a "home fix". We've called a local guy to come up here (we are a bit out of the center of the city, sort of up in the hills a ways) and help to arrange either a tow or a tow truck. We know of a shop that can take a look at it, but it will likely take days. Our vacation just went up in smoke- the same kind that spewed out from under the hood when the fan blew up.

Apparently, (to keep this interesting for you guys out there) there is some sort of pulley that holds the otor in place?? and that has slipped over 2 inches out of its normal position making the fan hit something else as it spins-
in short we cannot start the engine.

Had the car NOT brought our vacation to "abort" status,

THIS

would have.

We have not called out embassy, but can only suspect that the border has now closed anyway. At least for a couple days. We have not heard that the conference part of our time in Kyrg. has been cancelled, but that doesn't start until the 16th. It's a wait and see sort of thing- both the car AND the rioting.

Meantime, my kids are having meltdown after meltdown as they say good-byes to life long friends that they will never see again. We have heard over and over, that the life we have chosen is a life of good-byes and grief. It is all so fresh right now.

More as I know it....

Oh my goodness, Liesa, what to say?? Perhaps best to entrust you all to prayer for your safety....

Not sure by the last update if the kids will make it to the flight on time...but if they do...yes, let me warn you to have towels for the tears. I sent mine what felt like half way across the world and thought I could hold it together at the goodbye until he walked through security (this was waaay back in the 80's when security was only for international flights)..I remember trying so hard to smile, but with eyes overflowing....must have been a horrid face!!! It all let loose the instant he was out of sight...

Understand the goodbyes for the kids and their friends - my children attended a small private school with 11 in their 8th grade graduating class and 42 in the HS graduating class. Lots of tearful goodbyes even when they are only going to different HS's or colleges!

Hang in there... praying the next update is good news!!

Prayers are going up for you and your family. I have been slowly catching up after a family emergency so I got behind. I too love that song Blessed Be the Name of the Lord. I love how the Lord always sends exactly what we need at the perfect time.

Oh Liesa, that's terrible! When I heard the news today in the morning, this really woke me up and I prayed it won't disturb your vacation! But maybe it is still better to not go at all instead of being there when the situation might be getting even worse?

 This isn't sounding good. But perhaps there's a reason your car broke down? I'm so glad you had an alternate way to get the kids to the airport. My heart is breaking for the children and their grief and goodbyes. :sad1:

Oh my gosh! You poor thing! Murphy's law.....

My wishes are with you. I'm hoping that you get out of there safe and sound. Take care Liesa and hope to hear a good news update soon

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

True, Kathy. You always seem to know how to put things in perspective ;)

I try my best. ;)

:hug::hug::hug: I don't even know what to say about all that you are undergoing. Just know that I'm sending hugs and prayers and more hugs and prayers.
