D’Amaro named next CEO

Meanwhile, DAK opens on a busy Sunday with Flight, Expedition, and Dinosaur down.

EDIT: This made a little more sense coming right after HokieRaven5's post....

Even once they finish all the construction.... the net gain might be better attractions (or more up to date IP engagement), but not more... DAK really needed to see more attractions added to the numbers it had a few years ago when Primeval Whirl was still up.

Huh????
Disney+/Hulu finally reached profitability
Took full control of Hulu from comcast
Reorganized entertainment/espn/experiences
Greenlit a 10 year 60 billion park expansion
Huge cruise line growth
he slowed down the release of more star wars/marvel content to work on better creative output
First time in years that Disney has have multiple billion dollar hits
Espn just finished acquiring nfl network(time will if it was worth it)

His main focus upon returning was to address the issues within the company, focusing on consolidation and modernization. It’s neither flashy nor growth-driven, but it’s far from insignificant. Sometimes you have to step back and correct the course before moving forward.
This is sort of a good illustration of the disconnect between what wall street sees as a success (higher profits, cut costs) and what some visitors want (cheaper trips, lower crowds, bring back magical express, bring back muppetvision, etc).

But she has film business experience, but not really production experience - at least I don't think so. That's why the title seems so odd.

In my opinion, you should be concerned about Dana Walden's promotion. I don't believe her experience with Fox is similar to others in this position historically... a Frank Wells (WB) or a John Lasseter (Pixar). Jimmy Kimmel loves her though.

It just doesn't feel like D'Amaro hired her. I hope D'Amaro is smart enough to know how to avoid the long knives.

They are setting D’Amaro up for failure

I'll take them seriously if they bring back Illuminations and get rid of the current mediocre show.

I would love Illuminations to return too. It was my favorite nighttime spectacular of all time narrowly beating out Spectro-magic and the Electric Water Pageant.

On the other hand, I won't take this company seriously until and unless they get those creatives to start adding D'Amaro's name into the parks.

There's a Great Big Beautiful D'Amaro...
Experimental Prototype Community of D'Amaro.
D'Amaro-land Transit Authority Peoplemover.
Here you leave today and enter a world of yesterday, D'Amaro, and fantasy.

"Paging Mr. Maro. Mr. D'a Maro." 😁

The current show is okay, but honestly I liked HarmoniUs better - daytome sightlines not withstanding. Still, nothing held a candle to Illuminations. I'd love to see it come back, or maybe a new, plussed-up version of it.

Since we're all wishing for a return to classic shows, I'll vote for a return of The Main Street Electrical Parade, at both DLR and MK

Funny you say that. Was that the 26 degree moring? I was planning AK with nobody there, but ride waits only showed 2 even available at 8:45. Opened at 8. So skipped it. Maybe bunch of workers as well.

Last time this happened was conveniently just as a global crisis kicked off. Bah! My kid just reminded me 😅

So the widely anticipated promotion happened, I do not think anyone is surprised. My take is the Dana hire was to calm the fear that he had no experience with the creative side of this massive conglomerate. We all get to sit back and comment like back seat drivers, because everyone on this board knows how better to run the company that these two.

Well, don't we? I mean if WE ran things, they would bring back Magical Express, bring back Illuminations and Tapestry of Nations, bring back late night Extra Magic Hours, make FastPass free again, bring back the Pecos Bill's toppings bar, and build a fifth gate, all while charging 1997 prices for tickets and hotel rooms. I mean, what wouldn't be great about that? 😉

Guests are almost always unrealistic.

HAHA, so true.

Don't forget to go back to paper tickets.

While I am extremely happy to see Iger go (when people cheered his return, I thought that was very cringe), this isn't any better.
Why? What are your complaints about D'Amaro? I am genuinely asking, not being a smarty. I have not heard/read anything he has done that would put him on the same level as Chapek, which was an awful decision. I have read where others share the same sentiment as me...I believe with everything within me that Chapek wanted to destroy Disney.

And Iger was not the only one to retire. Right before that happened, CEOs from 13 major corporations retired. I have them saved in a file somewhere.

I don't believe he will fix the mediocrity that Disney is putting out currently (including the movies in this, not just the parks). I feel like it will be more of the same. I would LOVE to be proven wrong. I am so sick of the current situation Disney is in quality wise.
