Cypress Pointe Villas Hated It

We took a trip in early Dec and a friend gave us a week at CP. We were mainly going for R&R and the MVMCP. Well, let me just say, I do not get all the hype about this place.

First impression upon entering the lobby was horrible. The lobby is dark, dingy, and the employees are not cordial a all. A little wannabe disney/timeshare desk set over to the right add to the "ambiance" of this place. That along with the parrott were enough to make me glad I didn't pay. Took 25 minutes to checkin and we were the only ones there!!!

Now off to the room, drove the car over to the building and thankfully we were given a newly renovated 3 b/r as requested. However, the stairwell and the hallways look like something out of a tenament projects building. Garbage cans overflowing, cigarette butts stomped out in the hallways , just plain disgusting. Carried our luggage up the three flights of filthy stairs and opened the door to the room. The 3 b/r was nice enough, however very cheaply made. A little gawdy but quite roomy for our family of 4.

The next day we checked out the "volcano" pool..and it was just o.k. not really a pool area you would want to spend a whole lot of time at.

So we wound up doing a lot less R&R and more activites just to get away from the place! Its fine for sleeping but that's about it. The location was quite convenient to DD.

If you have other options, you should seriously consider. Price, I know is good, but there are other timeshare places out there that have got to be nicer for around the same $.

Of course with all the raves on this place, no wonder its become the"in" spot. For us it just was pretty disgusting.

This is just another view on this property. I'm sure it will always have its following, but we really hated it.

I felt the same way about Summer Bay. The cockroaches in the kitchen, employees loitering in the parking lot at midnight, getting locked out by the people in the adjoining condo and not finding anyone who cared to help, etc.

I've been to many timeshares in the Disney area and you really must see some others before deciding that Cypress Pointe is so bad. Some of them are just awful.

I pay about $37/night on Skyauction for two and three bedroom condos at Cypress Pointe and the Grand Villas. I think it is much better that any hotel I can get for the same price.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience at Cypress Pointe. I am also concerned because this is where we planned on staying Feb 5 - 12. I have searched and found most comments to be positive but I don't want to have an experience like yours. Guess I will start looking for alternate accomodations.

To jtryan:

I absolutely loved Cypress Pointe. Be careful looking elsewhere because many places are much worse. The hallways are a bit rough looking (poorly painted and a bit dirty), but I never saw any trash and the condo was very nicely renovated and decorated in my opinion. I did think that the exterior hallways at CPGV were much nicer and cleaner.

The pool doesn't come close to pool areas at any Disney resort but I thought the condo unit was great. I like the floor plan of the two bedroom unit at CP better than at CPGV. I loved watching the morning news from the jacuzzi. There were nightlights under cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom were great for moving around at night without turning all the lights on. The front desk staff were very pleasant during my two stays - much nicer than at a few other places I have stayed in the Disney area. There was no security guard at the entrance during my stay which was a bit of a concern.

It may not be as nice as some timeshares (like the newer Marriott or Hilton units), but the location (and in my case price) is excellent.

Some people love Summer Bay but I hated it there. Everyone is different.

wow, Roxanne, you can't let one bad review out of soooo many good reviews scare you off. You'll never find a resort/hotel/timeshare with perfect reviews from everyone. We are also booked here from Feb 9 -19 and unless everyone else who just returned starts posting bad reviews, I'm not at all concerned. I research this place very hard (like I always do for anywhere we go) and this place overall has very good reviews. I researched alot of other timeshare/ condos/hotels as well. This one has way less bad reviews than the others I checked out.

In researching, I always take out the 3 worst, the 3 best and read whats inbetween....its worked for me so far, lol.

Sandyincanada and bearzabout,

Thanks for your input. I think we will probably go ahead and take a chance on Cypress Pointe after all. I also do plenty of research before a trip and the overall consensus was good if not great. Hopefully, our experience will be positive.

We have stayed here last year and will be again this year. I think the original poster was at the wrong place. Never had any problems. Some timeshares are better but this one certainly is far better than what you would get at the same prices elsewhere.

You are 100% correct we were in the WRONG place however it was Cypress Point Villas.

All I did was post MY experience. Thank goodness there are so many choices in Orlando all we would all end up at the same place.

As I mentioned earlier we were mainly looking for some down time and this place does not fit the bill. No children's activites, actually no activities at all. And what really was the icing in the cake was the "convenience" store on sight OMG what a filthy joke.

I love that people can only share positive reviews here or they are knocked.

If you are looking for cheap no frills lodging this place may work for you, but totally sucked for us.

i just left summer bay and had no problems there at all, it was clean and neat, not roaches or bugs unllike the hotel we stayed in before checking into the villa, we loved summer bay i did not feel they offered alot in the way of activities but the pool was nice ,staff was a bit off

not everyone has or will have the same experience, i thought my stay at summber bay was great and i just read a post where they had an awful time with bugs, etc, do make assumptions about others or assume they had the worng information, people are intelligent enough to know where they stay if nothing else, the check out papers give the info, lets all be respectful and see and form our ouw opinions, i heard negative things about alamo car rental, long lines, i was in and out of their line in less then 8 minutes, if negative i know not to use them again

We have stayed at both sides of Cypress Pointe multiple times and never hand any problems. Everytime the checkin staff was pleasant and tried to get us a unit where we requested and the units were always clean.

You have to remember that these units are used over and over and over by families with kids who dont get watched etc and they do take a beating. I'm sure they do as good a job as they can keeping them up but to expect perfection is unrealistic in a family area. Even Disney resorts are not perfect.

We have always gotten a sheet that had activities listed and they included activities for kids. Not sure why this wasnt the case for this person however everytime we have gone there have been activities. As far as the decor pretty much all the timeshares (and many hotels) have that Florida type of decor. Its very common and its supposed to be bright

Thanks Happy Lawyer. All I did was state my opinion. Some people take reviews so personal  While I am sure my opinion means nothing to most, some may actually find it helpful in fianalizing plans.

When Vistana Villages was the "in" hotel kingdom property, we stayed there and loved it. We have also stayed at Marriott Imperial Palms and found that just ok. Maybe we are a little picky, but cigarette butts and overflowing trash cans just don't cut it for us. Another board favorite is the Polynesian Resort and I find that place to be time warped like a bad episode of the Brady Bunch. Now of course if money were no object, I would pick the YC over and over again. But to be able to afford to go 3x a year, just not feasible. So we do look for offsite bargains as well.

CPV just did not do it for us. And I was specifically told by the front desk that there were no scheduled children's activities. So maybe I was lied to!

I stayed in a two-bedroom at CPGV. The unit itself was very nice, looked as if it was recently renovated. The hallways outside the units were not so nice, also had cigarette butts and garbage that hadn't been picked up. The only other timeshare I have ever stayed at was Marriott's Grande Vista, which had more of a resort feel to it. CPGV and CP felt more like an apartment complex to me. For $89, it was a good deal and the unit was clean and in great shape, but I can see if someone was expecting more of a resort experience, they wouldn't find it at CP.

I'm with ya on this! I don't get the Poly at all...and YC is my favorite resort on property.

I"m really bummin about your review. We're booked at CP in three weeks. I will have 3 days of down time with 5 KIDS and the IL's while dh is at a conference at the Swan. I guess I'd better find stuff to do around Orlando for the days were not at the parks.

I will say, I'm already kinda leary because hotelkingdom and the pics on the CP site all said that CP would house 8-10. (we'll have 9) I finally called them myself, and sure enough, found out the unit we reserved will not accomodate us....SO we're having to switch the reservation to the villas (or bring our own blow up mattress as they told me they don't offer rollaways). *sigh*

We were going to go with Vistana again, but I hate the stress of having to worry whether we'll be assigned one of the older (gross) units.

Thanks for being honest. I hope for my selfish sake it turns out okay for us, but I appreciate knowing what I might find after check-in.

While we are on the subject, lol...does anyone know the depth of the Volcano pool? Is there a deeper part for swimming?

thanks

Wow We stayed in a 3bdrm at Cypress Pointe and were extremely happy. We got a great rate but I would spend more if I need room for a large party! The only problem we had was with the coffee maker, they replaced it and cleaned up the mess! I would definitely stay there again.

Harvey, I wouldn't worry. I think you'll have a great time with the kids at CPGV The units themselves are very nice, clean and new. (Wish I had the master bath at home.) So you might see some cigarette butts on the stairs - you can live with that, right? My kids liked the slides at the volcano pool better than the one at AKL. There is also a game room with air hockey. One night we played miniature golf at the nine hole course outside our building. There are also a few tennis courts and a half basketball court. The Winn Dixie is a block away and if you need to print boarding passes or just need a computer in general, the Kinko's is on the corner. You are also going to be very close to Disney. It is very easy to get around. CP is not a four-star resort, but it is nice, and a very good deal.

I'm sure you will be able to live with it, just go with low expecatations and you should be fine :D We on the other hand were going with high hopes with all the raves on this board and were not prepared at all. As I mentioned, we were looking for a more resort feel type of place for alot of down time, unfortunatley this isn't the place. Oh well, you live and learn.

Have fun Harvey.

boy I had it on my list - especially with the rehab going on - you didn't like it at all?

now the unit we had at Vistana - I could see someone else not liking it - the maids gather at the window of the master bedroom every morning between 7 and 7:30 and they had their little conference until 8:00am - so it was impossible to sleep late in this villa.'

in the showers were also some mold - but hey it is Florida...mold, mildew grow really fast here.

the carpert had holes in it. the water pressure for the showers was zero. In the second bathroom the water was cold - no matter how long mother let it run (we did once for an hour - it didn't even get warm).

I could go on....

but even with these faults - we loved it!!!

I generally don't participate in the activies at the resort - so that is not a problem.

what is and will upset my plans to see all the timeshares in Orlando - I found one that accepts pets..... Celebration World Resort and I can't see staying elsewhere until Spicey is gone. Except of course when I am using my DVC points and staying on site.

I am so sorry you didn't like your stay!!!

I hadn't heard any bad about Summer Bay - although it is too far from WDW for my taste. I had seem some bad reviews about Silver Lake.

Anyway you can get your reviews to RCI? However you were staying in an owners villa - so you should have gotten better treatment.

When we stayed at CP last month they were prepping the hallways for new paint. Actually they were sandblasting the old paint off making all kinds of racket way too early in the AM. ;) The hallways were the only thing that looked old and worn. The renovated units were really nice and I liked the decor. it's nothing I'd have in my home, but it was tropical as you'd expect a Florida condo to be. The pool was okay, nothing too exciting, but my 9yo loved the slides. We didn't go into the store. Being seasoned Timeshare travelers I knew not to take the reviews on here or anywhere to heart. I also knew that CP was a middle of the road timeshare-definitely not new or the Ritz. I think their pricing reflects that. We loved how small it was and how close it was to Downtown Disney and convenient to the outlets, I-4 and Universal. We were completely satisfied and would not hesitate to stay there again..
