would you stay at the new section or old and why? Can you use the vocanno pool if you stay at the new section? How far from disney parks are these places?

As resorts age some fall into disrepair, some stay basically as they were and some mature into something better. Cypress Pointe is really two resorts sharing a name and all common amenitities but with different unit styles. They both have a carribean theme, up to 3 bedroom units and share a really great location.

The older buildings are the original - built between 1992 and 1996. The buildings are all 3 stories, no elevators, surrounding the Clubhouse. Much of the "personality" of the two resorts comes from that section. It is home to the signature Volcano pool, the Clubhouse, the ponds, fountains and more. I always feel a part of the action whan I stay at CPR also known as Phase 1.

The newer buildings - built between 1995 and 2001 - are 4 or 5 stories tall, with elevators, slightly larger overall in interior space. They are grouped around a center courtyard featuring two pools, a mini-golf and a small convenience store. Remember all of those areas are available to guests at both resorts. If you want a quieter area, away from the main lobby, this is it. I find I feel a bit isolated there and tend to head back over to the Clubhouse a lot when we stay at Cypress Pointe Grande Villas - Phase 2.

The biggest differences are in the units. The CPGV units are newer in original age and, so far, have never had a total renovation. While they are very nice some things are starting to look dated and some just worn. The approach so far has been to replace piecemeal when something has totally worn out. To me it is starting to look like a 10 year home with the original furnishings and 5 kids in the family.

Although the buildings are older at CPR the units were all totally renovated between 2004-2005. Every one has the same new furnishings, carpeting, softgoods, appliances and entertainment equipment. They look better than brand new. So the building age really doesn't tell the whole story.

Summing up if elevators are important and you don't mind the highrise type building go CPGV. If you like the "old" Orlando that featured lower builidings and no elevators and a bit more at home feel then go with the newer units at CPR. Both resorts are nice but we really do prefer the original when we stay at Cypress Pointe.

I'm not the original OP but I just wanted to say EXCELLENT well written overview & advise! You are a definate asset to the boards!!!

We love to stay at CP. We have stayed in both the "old" and new. Both are great. My kids love the valcano pool. I like to have an elevator at the end of the day too.

The location is wonderful. Very close to Downtown Disney. It only takes a few minutes to get to the parks.

Count me in--THANK you for the excellent explanation!

From what I understand, the main difference is the bathroom privacy issue, correct?

We stayed at GrandVillas (Phase II) because of that, mostly because we were sharing the villa with others. If it was just DH and I, I probably wouldn't really have cared but we ended up sharing the master bath with one of the other people in our group, so it would have been an issue.

For our next trip we may try CP and not GrandVillas to take advantage of the slightly lower prices and to check out the other side of the property a bit more.

Yes - the bath layout is different at each. The two master bedrooms at Phase 1 use wall angles rather than doors for commode privacy. The third bathroom has a standard layout and door. Back in 1992 when we first saw it the developer called it "European Style" bath. Based on guest reaction, including those from Europe, since then it must be a limited area as they didn't expect it either.

Since the bathrooms are both in the master bedrooms it has never bothered us after the surprise factor was over. In Phase 2 they used the more traditional separate door to the toilet area. I wouldn't make a choice of resorts based on that but it is good to know to avoid the surprise.

We have stayed at the CP several times in the old building. The elevators are a definite plus at CPGV. Since the price is now the same, we will stay at the CPGV. Not for the elevators, but the second BR. At CP, the second BR is on the breezeway and can be very noisy. At CPGV, the layout is better and looks like that second BR would be quieter.

You can view pictures of the payouts and photos of the units at www.cypresspointe.net under the heading Phase I or Phase II. Hope that helps.

We stayed on the Grand Villas side last week and the suite was lovely. I only had a glimpse of the pool but it did look a little boring -nice, but boring. The pool with the volcano on the CPR side looks nicer (from the pictures, I didn't go see it). The little minature golf course looked cute and it had lots of lovely palm trees. Overall I thought the landscaping there was really, really nice.

The location is great and you can't beat all that space for a low price. The only thing I missed was a hair dryer but maybe that was an oversight?

I think it took us about 15 minutes to get to MK and most of that time is waiting at the horrifically long lights - but you'll hit them wherever you stay in the area (all over Florida too! LOL)

I can believe I missed that there is no mention of a hair dryer....

all the other timeshare I have stayed at had a hair dryer.

Does Cypress Pointe have one?

thanks for pointing this out to me! :wizard:

I an oddity considering everything else they offer as standard neither resort has hair dryers.

I love the DIS!!!

I was just about to ask this exact question! We are trying to decide between Phase 1 & 2 for August.

I find it pretty hard to believe that they have no bathroom door whatsoever, including the commode room??? If that was the case from 1992, I'm shocked they didn't add doors during their complete renovation!?!?!

If I'm reading it right, the Phase 1 2 BR has a TV in the second BR, and using a trundle bed instead of traditional twin beds. Is that correct?

Many thanks to the OP for starting this thread at a perfect time!!!

Thanks again folks for the help, now All I need is to find the best price from a web site. Got any ideas??

I am a Sunterra owner and Cypress Point II is my home where we bought. We love it!! Great layout, convenient to everything. And last year they put new furnishing in the units. Very nice. We will be staying in may for a long weekend and for a week in July. It's always a pleasure.

Blessings,
Winnie

OP: I expect to use hotelkingdom.com. Their August prices are around $93 for 2 BR and $135 for 3 BR. Same price for CP and CPGV.

Still hoping for a bit more info about the bathroom situation?? They don't highlight toilet pix on the websites!!! :rotfl2:

There is a door to the bedroom, but not to the toilet area. It's not that bad, and there's another bathroom too.

We LOVE CP!

One thing you need to be mindful of in regard to the infamous bathroom is that there are mirrors running the length of the wall... and these face the lovely but very open screened in porch off the master bedroom. If you don't close the curtains when you use the "facilities" you will be giving the neighbors quite the... ahem... show  :lmao:
