Newfie, there are two different things that might going on, one is a new tax issue that is being implemented and that might affect your transactions - extra bucks used to reduce the taxable amount so you would only pay tax on the balance owed pre-mfg. coupons, but after extra bucks are subtracted. You may start seeing extra bucks spent show up as "CVS MFR Coupon" on your receipt. It appears that this is the result of state tax audits and it began on July 1st and hasn't been fully implemented.
The other is the cashier purposely hitting subtotal prior to scanning your extra bucks. You can "zero out" if coupons and extra bucks are scanned prior to hitting subtotal.
I think you should call and leave a message for the manager to call you and discuss the way you've been treated. CVS customer service will confirm that you can use 2 coupons on a BOGO or a free coupon and get both free on a BOGO. A cashier telling you "to save the coupon for a time the item is not on sale" should not be working at CVS until they are retrained - CVS has went out of their way to be known as coupon friendly as it is very profitable for them, and even more so during a sale as they get volume discounts and better prices - they pay a reduced amount for a lot of product that can be later sold at regular price too. This cashier is voicing her own personal problem with people who use coupons and does not understand that coupons help pay her wages and boost the economy.

The problem is this cashier always seems to be there and I always seem to get stuck with her no matter how hard I try to avoid it. So today we go in, and its her again - DH gets in line he has 5 items - each item is .99. Simple transaction, no MFG's or anything. He hands cashier one $4.00 ecb and then a $1.00 ecb - cashier tells him I have to mark this one down to .95 - he replies fine. Subtotal is now 00 - she then totals it at .48!
DH tells her no way am I losing money on the ecb and then paying you! So she calls a different manager over and she looks at the order and is obviously perplexed and tells her to redo it - cashier does same thing happens. At this point I tell the manager that I do not have this issue with either the other manager or the other cashiers. They hit a button and this total disappears. Manager says well, I can see the subtotal is zero I have no idea why you owe money. She then decides that the ECB is ringing up as a MFG coupon and thus I am being taxed only on that one $4.00 ecb. I tell her this is not a MFG coupin and she says I know, but you have to take that up with CVS. I end up getting so mad that we ask her to void the transaction, take our ebc's back and walk out of the store leaving the cart there. Are any of you having problems like this? I mean how can one cashier and one manager take care of this with no issue and without my even calling it to their attention and this cashier and manager just run me around in circles? I'm having a really difficult time trying to figure out what is happening and trying to correct it and don't have anything to back myself up with. CVS does not seem to post any rules about coupon useage and about whether ECB's should or should not be taxed and why do some ring up as MFG's etc. I'm sorry to rant - this has just gotten very frustrating and I don't know where to go to figure it out. I really appreciate anything any of you have to say...
On Saturday I used 99 coupons and I am not even remotely the person with the most coupons! On HCW there are posts about people using 250 coupons and up in 1 transaction.
The cashier has to look at each and every coupon to verify the expiration date and initial it. I sure wouldn't want that job but the CVS cashiers have it easy.

..however what upsets me is the posting

He said he hoped it helped make up for the incident.
