CVS ECB Deals - Sales for Week 4/20/08-4/26/08

I thought I was the only carring scissors around in my CVS bag. Never thought about putting a calculator in there though. I have a spiral notebook in my bag that I write my "plan" for the day on. As I shop I jot down prices (to keep up with total), coupon value and ECB that will generate. Easy to check and see if I get all my ECB's. And yes my family think I am nuts too but they like to shop in my stash.

My niece refers to this as "shopping in my aunt's closet". She loves to come visit me to see what I have new for shampoo and body wash.

I write my plan down too - before I ever leave the house. And I have learned to check before I leave the store to make sure that all my ECB's printed.

Well hello long lost sister. I work better with a plan although last week I went in without a plan (had ECB's expiring that day) and everything just fell in place. I made money and got some good stuff.

Remember some of you asked me about the bucks for the $1.67 Lamilsilk I got at BOGO? I called CS and today a $6 ECB should print out for me today. That was on the trip without a plan.

That is so funny! I have a calculator (and scissors) in the glove box in my car. On Sunday mornings I can often be found sitting in the parking lot of CVS with the newspaper, cutting the coupons that I need, and then busting out my calculator to (hopefully) pull off a "flawless" deal....:rotfl:

I also make sure I take the calculator in with me in case "it all goes bad" and I have to resort to "Plan B". :rotfl:

This is incredible. I do this too! I learned my lesson a few weeks ago after I bought the SPA and my newspapers at the same time, then found out that there were $1.50 coupons in the paper! Nope, now I buy my papers, sit in my car and go through everything, then go back in to do my deals. I just know my CVS workers think I'm crazy!

I stopped at CVS on my way to work today and here is what I got:

Maybelline Lipstick 5.00
Maybelline Lipstick 4.99
Softsoap Spa Bodywash 18oz. 5.49
Softsoap Spa Bodywash 18oz. 5.49
Softsoap Spa Bodywash 18oz. 5.49
Absolutely Divine trial cookie pack .59
Adidas 3 Deoderant 4.99
-$4.99 adidas 3 free coupon (EXPIRES TODAY)
-$2 maybelline coupon
-$2 maybelline coupon
-$23 in ECB
Subtotal .05
IL 8% tax .68
IL 1.75% tax .01
Total .74

And I got back a $6 ECB for the Maybelline and a $16.47 for the Softsoap. So I lost .53 in the deal, but not too bad.

So who has nice cashiers at their store(s) and who has grumpy ones? You know, the ones who will let you do multiple transactions, don't do the eyeball roll when they see you coming, are happy for your low OOP, etc.

I have yet to be in our town's only CVS and have them not be grumpy. They never say "hi" or "hello". It's always "CVS card" in a kind of irritated voice. Then, and only then, will they ring anything up. Never a "thank-you" or "have a nice day", ever.

There were two cashiers behind the one register the other day when I went in. They were talking about how a nearby CVS is awful, none of the workers get along, the one was glad she transferred out, etc. I'm thinking, "This CVS is better, as grouchy as you all are?"

Remember that old Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" episode? As unhappy as the employees at my CVS are I'm afraid one day they'll yell "No CVS for you!" :scared1:

No toothpaste for you!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Maggie
p.s. That's ok. We could probably survive into 2010 with all the toothpaste and Softsoap we have!

There used to be a cashier at my CVS who my DD called the coupon police. He would go through every coupon and before scanning it would say "did you buy this?' in a very accusing voice. And then he would check the bag for it. And if the picture didn't match, he would try to refuse the coupon even if it scanned in and the printing said "any size" "any variety" etc. I complained to the manager several times. I guess he either left or was fired because I haven't seen him in a long time. The lady who is usually there on Sunday (my CVS day) is great about multiple transactions, etc but isn't overly friendly. Last Sunday there was a lady I hadn't seen before. She evidently just moved to the Mount Washington Valley and used to work at a different store. She was great! Didn't complain about the $3 off two Herbal Essence coupons that I used for the BOGO offer like others have (you're only paying for one so you can't use the $ off 2 coupon I was told more than once). And she congratulated me on my low OOP and all the ECB's I have for next week. I hope she keeps working on Sunday!

Now that's a scary thought!

I get along too well at my main store. The manager comes and puts his arm around me when I get there, the store employees all know my first name. They save things for me, etc. Yesterday they all wanted to introduce me to the new cashier. The pharmacists know I'm really sick though and I suspect that's part of it. They make $$ off my prescriptions.

Everyone is really nice at my second store, but are often perplexed at the deals I come up with, they don't know how I consistently stay so low oop and keep having enough ECBs.

Then I have 3 other stores that I try to go to only once every two weeks. One is a hot paranoid mess, but it's also the nicest designed store and always well-stocked, it also has a scanner with a coupon printer. It's also the store where if something is going to go wrong, it will.

There's an urban store that hates everyone because more than half their customers are shoplifters, but they are nice when you check out and actually pay for anything (even with coupons and ECBs). I've never been there when someone hasn't been trying to return something stolen and having a big threatening argument. Some dig through the garbage right in front of the store, find a receipt, then go pick up the item on the receipt from the shelf and walk right to the counter to return it for cash. Medicaid prescriptions keep this store in business, I think they lose half their merchandise from shoplifting.

The last store is far away and very old and its really hard to find anything there but I need it when I'm trying to do all the deals in one day with particular coupons.

I never do more than one transaction at any given store, unless it's just to pay for prescriptions at the pharmacy.

The one by my house has a young girl who is always working. She could care less. The one by my work gave me attitude the other day "oh look at all the bucks you got back" said in a smarty farty tone. I smiled and said "YES! Isnt that great!! Thanks!" and walked out!:rotfl:

Deal of the day:

2 Fab detergents 1.99 each x 2- 3.98
1 large Softsoap - 5.49

total - 9.47
- 3.99 ECB
-4.99 ECB

oop - 0.49 with tax (I think it was 0.57)

got back: 5.49 ECB plus a 3/$15 so really I got back 8.49 (so I just lost the 0.49 but I got the 2 detergents so....)

I cant wait till the new deals start!

No manufacturer's coupon for the Fab? I had a $1 off 2 coupon when I got mine. Would have made it all free - you would have had to pick up a candy bar or something! I love it when that happens.

The cashiers at ours are usually fairly friendly, they don't go out of their way but at the same time they aren't nasty and don't seem to really care one way or the other on the coupons.

The managers at two of our stores are really nice and helpful. They will even point out deals! They like to see the customers get their ECB's. I guess they understand that the ECB's aren't coming from CVS, that they come from the manufacturer.

I sure do wish our CVS's would get some Softsoap Spa. Both of our stores have actually never had it in stock yet. I have a ton of rainchecks for it though if it ever does come back in!

Today I went to the register w/2 of the softsoap, and the cashier said, oh I just want to tell you that these won't give you the ecb's, it's the smaller size, instead of trying to explain it to her, I just said, it's OK, I want them anyway - when the receipt printed and she saw the ecb's, she was shocked and said it looks like you got the ecb's afterall!!! I sometimes feel bad that I know more about sales then they do :confused3

I had the same thing happen with the larger sized Softsoaps. The sales clerk tried to talk me out of buying them and I told her No I wanted them. I ended up with 5 of the large ones and they produced the right ECB's :woohoo: But then when they saw that it printed the ECB's they went and pulled them off the shelves and said they shouldn't be out this week :confused3 I don't know what that was about but I got my limit so I was happy!

I have two CVS stores pretty close to my house and on my way to work. The one has pretty nice ladies that work there, friendly and they don't seem irritated when I don't owe anything but a few cents. The other store though  They seem annoyed that I am just there! I never ask questions, I never bother them and if I need to make two transactions I let other people go ahead of me . I just try to be as nice as I can and not get on their nerves but they still seem upset when I get things for next to nothing :confused3 Not sure why they care!

No, no Fab coupon unfortunately. Although after I went CVS-ing I stopped at the library and my library has a coupon swap! Its a huge plastic box (bigger than a shoebox) and people put in their unwanted coupons. I had to pick up my daughter from school but WHOA NELLIE! There were coupons! LOL!:lmao: I found a few for toothpaste that I'm sure I can use at CVS one day!:rolleyes1

I am so excited. I just got a survery from CVS advisory board and earned $10 ECB to be given after May 16.

I signed up for this thing about a year ago and this is the first I have heard from them. :cool1:

My CVS loves me. I've talked to all of them & am getting to really know me. I think I'm going to start getting my photos developed there when they have the sales so that it gives me another reason to go in & spend real money (not just ECB's!) I can't stand suspicious & cranky people. I always try to butter 'em up when I meet them. I normaly can, tho every once in awhile ya meet one who just can't be made not grumpy. I just think that no matter how irritating it is to do business with them, how irritating would it BE them?

Coming out of lurking mode....This is my very first post on the boards!

First, thanks to all of you for your many tips that you've posted. I've learned a lot and gotten some really great deals!

Speaking of friendly CVS's....the other day I went into my local CVS and there was no body wash left on the shelf. I found one of the managers who I see there regularly and she told me to follow her to the back of the store. We got to the storage room door and she told me to follow her inside! She looked thru several containers before she found the body wash and asked me how many I wanted. My husband couldn't believe that she did that.

Hello to my fellow TN CVSer, TNGramma. I'm in Spring Hill, TN.

Hi April! Welcome to the DIS and the CVS thread.

I worked out of Nashville up until Mason was born and have several friends that live in Spring Hill. :woohoo:

Super cute Snow White in your avatar.

Kelley

Thanks for the welcome Kelley! So you live near Nashville too?

We were at Disney World this past January and my daughter had just gotten kissed by Snow White. She had to sleep with the kiss mark on her cheek that night. She wouldn't let us wipe it off.
