Has anyone else gotten any of the CuttleKids dies & used them with the Sidekick?

I just got a set of the pirate Cuttlekids - very cute! Everything I'd read said that Cuttlebug dies were compatible with the Sidekick without the adapters. I tried running them through without the black adapters - assuming these would be the same, but there was NO tension & therefore NO marks on the cutting pad. So I tried with the black adapter & it worked fine. It was a brand new set of cutting pads, so I'm guessing there's just a difference between regular CuttleBUG and the CuttleKID dies?

Speaking of which, I was surprised to see that the CuttleKID die had a layer of cardboard instead of plastic. These seem extremely thin to me & I'm wondering about durability. :confused3 I have to say that since these are marketed for kids I have to wonder at how easily they'll bend. :confused3

Are the regular ones also just the cardboard with the picture & the foam encasing the blade?

Any thoughts?
