A little reminder for those of you who cut your own grass. Go fill up those gas can's. If you only have one it might be worth while to purchase one or two more and fill them up. They keep saying that gas will be $5 or $6 by memorial day.

I recently heard the opposite - that it's probably peaked and will be on the way back down. Crossing my fingers. :goodvibes

And find ethanol free gas, or get some of the Sta-Bil Ethanol Treatment to protect the mower engines.

That's what I heard on the radio yesterday, too. The man said that the spike this time of year is normal (even though its higher this year than most) because of the switchover to the summer blend from the winter blend and that the price almost always drops after Memorial Day because of it.

That said, the lawnmower doesn't use a HUGE amount of gas (at least not in my 1/2 acre yard) My DH typically uses about 3 gallons of gas for the whole summer, so stocking up would not be worthwhile. I'd rather pay a few bucks extra if the price goes up or stays high than have extra gas stored in my garage all summer (it makes me kind of nervous).

LOL they were just saying on the news it going to go up, We haven't seen anything yet. That we haven't even got into peak driving time LOL

LOL so who knows what will happen lol

Not worried here- gas has started to go down a tiny bit (only a few cents, but better than rising $0.10 a day!)

Actually summer blends cost more to make than the winter blends. Terminals must convert by May 1 and stations by June 1. So any offset in lower prices in the next week will probably be offset by summer blend increase in prices. I look for prices to hover in this area for a while.

Either way, thanks for the reminder. I just filled up two lawn mowers and I think I am out!

We filled 5 cans this winter to power our generator so I've got plenty of cheap gas. I'm actually concerned about having that much gasoline sitting around.

True. Unless you've got a massive yard that you mow frequently, it really isn't worth the trouble (IMHO) to keep a lot of gasoline on hand.

Or you could, if you have a smallish yard, buy an electric or manual mower and skip the gas entirely. :) DS13 mows our lawn with an old-fashioned, non-motorized push mower and DM switched to a cordless electric last summer that she really likes for her smaller (probably 1/5 acre) suburban lot.

My husband has been looking for one, but hasn't found one locally yet. I think he is WAY underestimating how hard it will be to push it in our hilly yard (I used to use one at my aunt's house when I was a teenager), but I'm going to stay out of it :rolleyes1

They sell the manual ones at Lowe's for around $100.

Around here Sears, Lowes and Home Depot all have them. The newer push mowers are MUCH easier to handle than old ones! We have two, an old one from when I was a kid (probably purchased in the mid-60s when my grandparents bought their house - it was already old when I was using it in the 80s & 90s) that is a real workout to use and a new one that really isn't any harder to push than a non-self-propelled gas mower.

Keeping cans of gasoline at my house isnt worth me saving a few bucks

My electric mower is a cordless Black and Decker. I have a few massive hills in my yard and it works just fine. It's also really quiet and light. I love it and I also have an electric hedge trimmer, blower and weedeater. I don't have anything with gas except my car and that gets 34mpg. I think I'm the only person around NOT complaining. :)
