Cutting bacon...with a fork?

Only time I have Canadian Bacon is in a McDonald's Egg McMuffin. And I do not eat it with a knife and fork.

I like my bacon (from any country) crispy, on white bread with full fat mayo. Perfect. I eat that with my hands.

Bacon and eggs, I'll eat with a knife and fork when out. Pick up the bacon with fingers when at home.

Bacon has to be crisp or I won't eat it. There can be no flexibility remaining. Most restaurants don't serve it to my preference, so it's mostly a home food eaten with the fingers.

IMO bacon is best avoided when eating out with the boss or other company executives. Same for ribs, chicken wings, or anything else messy.

Ugh! American bacon is dreadful, overcooked and inedible.
Always intriguing how quickly the Canadian or English bacon disappears on a cruise ship! After a while they ration the good stuff for those who quietly ask for it.
Back in the UK now for Christmas and New Year, really enjoying our limp bacon using a knife and fork!

Funny, that pretty well sums up my feelings on British food.

The bacon ( same type as American bacon) from Canada is better than the bacon from the states. I live on the border and have had both. Not sure why but the US bacon seems to be cut a bit thinner than it is in Canada.

I've always eaten bacon (prefer it crisp but not so crisp that it breaks easily) with my fingers, and I don't recall ever seeing anyone else eat it with a knife and fork.

For those who never eat bacon with their fingers, how do you eat your toast? With a knife and fork also? Really, just curious.

Can someone explain the difference between Canadian bacon and ham please?

To me Canadian bacon is just a ham slice that they call bacon there.

I have been served so much bacon that is limp and chewy that I have learned to ask that my bacon be well done. I don't understand bacon that is not crisp.

I hate it crispy- the few times I eat bacon it has to be soggy, cooked but soggy- I don't want any crunchy part on it!

That's correct. It's a cured, smoked pork tenderloin; very lean, pretty dry and not deliciously fatty and salty like regular bacon. Sometimes it is coated on the outside with yellow cornmeal and is then oddly called peameal bacon. And honestly, it's not very common to see it served anywhere except on Egg McMuffins and that seems to be a fake, round-rolled piece of ham, not actual backbacon.

Some posters here seem to think there is only one kind of "American bacon". My butcher has seven varieties.

My husband eats everything with a utensil. He HATES getting his hands dirty.

Canadians eat the same bacon as american's most often. However, what you call Canadian Bacon, we call peameal bacon or back bacon if it's not made with peameal.

Knife and fork like most food and that includes pizza in restaurants and burgers ;)

I must not eat at the right places. I've seen 0 people eat a cheeseburger with a fork and very few eat pizza with one, lss than a few since moving to NY.

I avoid certain finger foods because they're too messy, such as chicken wings or ribs. Bacon is fine, as long as it's crisp.

No, I won't cut up a cheeseburger with a knife and fork, but I've been known to do it with pizza, especially if it's heavy with toppings. (But no pineapple. :stir: ;))

I'd never heard the term "back bacon" before until I was on vacation in British Columbia last July and saw a display at Tim Hortons for this:

Granted, I'm not sure why they call it "Canadian back bacon" other than perhaps to give a hint to American tourists who might see the sign. Also - it looks a lot like an Egg McMuffin.

EAT WITH YOUR HANDS:
1) fried chicken
2) pizza
3) hot wings
4) ribs
5) BACON!
