I signed up to make the cookies for my DS Kindergarten Christmas party. Does anyone have any cute ideas??? TIA

How much time do you have at the party? You could make sugar cookies, take the stuff for them to decorate before they eat. DS' preschool did this last year, and they loved it. I think it was their craft too, though.

Can you substitute cupcakes? For Rudolph cupcakes...
Ice with chocolate frosting, use 2 Junior Mints for eyes, a marichino (sp?) cherry for the nose, the very thin red licorice for the mouth (I wrapped it around a pencil and put it in the fridge for a while so it would hold its shape then cut it in small pieces)... The time consuming piece was cutting out all the antlers out of brown paper. Two antlers per cupcake stuck in the icing so they stand up straight.

These are always a big hit.
I do use a stocking cookie cutter, but shaping works too.
Anything you want can be "placed" in the stockings.

Christmas Stockings

Recipe By :Grandma Hazel
Serving Size : 36 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Cookies Formed

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 cup butter -- softened
1/2 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
2 1/4 cups sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
For surprises
9 candied cherries -- quartered
1/4 cup broken walnuts
1/4 cup chocolate chips

Mix well shortening, sugar, flavorings, food coloring. Blend in flour
and salt. If dough seems too dry, add a few drops of cream. Chill
one hour. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
In the palm of hand, pat 1 level tablespoon dough into oblong, about 3
x 1-1/2" lengthwise.
Down center place surprises - 2 choc pieces, 1 quarter of cherry, 2
pieces nuts. (I recall that she always places the chocolate in the
"toe" of the stocking.)
Mold dough around surprises into roll 3 inches long.
Place on ungreased baking sheet, turning end of roll for foot of
stocking.
Bake 10 to 12 min. Cool.
Frost tops & toes with confectioners sugar icing.

If there are no peanut allergies, these are very cute, a little time consuming to make but easy and worth the effort. DS and I just made some today, as we have for the past few years.

Sugar Cookie Candy canes can be fun.

Make your standard favorite sugar cookie dough for rolling. Split dough in half. Add red dye to one half the dough and mix in well (The dough will actually be a dark pink). Refrigerate the two halves of the dough until stiffened (an hour or two). hand roll the two halves to form ropes about half inch in diameter. (I find it easier to split each color of the dough in half again before making the ropes as it's easier to manipulate). Cut each rope into eight inch lengths. Twist the lengths of the two different colored ropes together (one of each color) and pinch the ends together and bend form into a candy cane shape as you put it on the cookie sheet. Bake at 350 until edges are lightly browned.
