Since the original Magic Band decorating thread is getting super long and hard to wade through I am going to start this new thread to consolidate all that great info into a more organized space.

I'm going to save the first few posts to write out all the tips and techniques that have been reported in the first thread.

For the rest of the thread, please only post photos. If you would like to include a description of your technique and a report of how it held up for you that would be great.

I am also going to quote picture replies from the original thread so that they will all be here in one place.

Please, feel free to "like" posts, but no comments in this thread. It will make it much easier to look through.

When I first decided to customize, I just wanted them to be really glittery (I'm a princess, what can I say?). I used Mod Podge and glitter and then sealed it with some more ModPodge. I loved how they turned out:

But even though none of the glitter came off when I touched it, by the end of a few hours of wear a lot of the glitter had worn off and it ended up looking like this:

So I got smart and changed plans, and this is my new one!

This is after a couple days of wear and a few days snapped around my purse. Also, you can't tell in this picture, but it glows in the dark too :)

Went ahead tried Mrsxsparrow's idea with the nail polish:) My youngest loves yellow and didn't want the color to change, so hers just got clear sparkles. The red mb I did last and is still wet from the top coat. I loved the way they turned out, thanks so much Mrsxsparrow!!! :thumbsup2:goodvibes

Just finished modding our MBs for our Christmas trip:

I used a combination of Sharpie, nail polish, and Oil-based paint pens. HUGE thanks to mrsxsparrow for the idea of the Blue Chrome color - DS went nuts when he saw that! One thing - I put a chip-resistant top coat on the blue one, and you can't see it, but there are cracks in the top coat when I bend it. I'm going to have DS try it on and see what band holes he has it set on, and then try to apply another top coat to seal the mini-cracks. The other three have no top coat. The crystals are Swarovski flat-back crystals from A.C. Moore, super-glued on. So excited to wear them to the parks!

we are there December 6-8, so we did ours up for xmas. :)

Thank you OP and PP for sharing your MB ideas.

This was my project this morning ... Mine is the Ariel teal one with black gems (there are 3 hidden Mickeys). The pink ones are my daughters' with little flowers, gems. The blue is my mom's and the red is my dad's. His was the hardest b/c black nail polish is NOT forgiving. My DH is going to do his own.

This was very easy to do. Cost me $20 in nail polish and gems.

I can't wait to wear these for our early December trip!

Posting our last two.

I added red nail polish to the red one I posted above (since the black had smeared a bit), then used a top coat. I now LOVE this one, too! Reminds me of Mr. Incredible now!

My DH decided to do his own green band. He used black Sharpie to outline the Mickey and then chose bright hot pink for the Mickey. :confused3

Guess real men do wear pink!:lmao::rotfl2:

So I finally finished mine last night. Wore it today to make sure it fit, and didn't fall off (I think it's more secure now). Started with a paint pen, but I didn't like how the purple was coming out. So I switched to a purple nail polish, used painters tape and went to town on the whole band. Did 3 coats like that. Then, I took the painters tape off, and drew the tiger stripes how I wanted them, and then used a paper clip to dab the nail polish in the spots. I then put 3 or 4 coats of clear on it. The first coat of clear made some of the stripes run a little bit, but from a distance you can't really tell.

It's not the best looking band, but it is now purple and gold, and has tiger stripes, and that's all I care about.

After reading this thread, I decided to decorate my band as well as my sister's band for our trip next week! :) I'm not as creative as some of you, but I am very happy with how these turned out! (I am still waiting for them to dry completely, but the nail polish doesn't seem to be cracking at all when I put the band on my wrist.)

Mine is the one on the left. I used clear glittery nail polish on my blue band, and purple glittery polish for the Mickey. I used a teal glittery polish on my sister's blue band, and pink glittery polish on her Mickey. I also traced around the Mickeys with a fine-tipped black Sharpie. I did two layers of each color, and put clear top coat over everything.

Decorated my MB last night for our trip on 1/11. I originally had a green band and I used OPI's Khloe Had A Little Lam Lam. I figured since Khloe and Lamar were no more, it would be okay to use all the nail polish up. :rotfl: Thanks for all the great ideas!

The pink one was already pink, I just superglued on Swarovski crystals (blue, purple, and clear) that I bought at a craft store. That particular magicband held up the best - I never lost a single crystal and it was so easy to make.

I received at least 5 CM comments *a day* on the MBs - they loved seeing the MBs decorated, and on two separate occasions they asked to take photos to show to their managers. Here's a photo mid-trip:

The crystals on my band and the kid's bands were solid as a rock. My DH's band (the Tigger band) started to smudge slightly, but not bad at all.

Here it is after 5 days at the AKL tree:

I talked to several CMs and guests, and the universal opinion is that Sharpie doesn't hold up. It fades and smears off. I used oil-based paint pens for all of my artwork, and it held up pretty well. Also, on the metallic blue one, I put several coats of clear coat, and the clear coat cracked when you bent the MB to put it on. Looking back on it, I think I would leave the clear coat off, or put it on very thinly.

I love the recent addition of nail tattoos - that could be sooo much fun! Decorating our MBs was one of highlights in the anticipation of waiting for our trip. And the kids had a great time wearing their "special bracelets".

We got our Magic Bands today and blinged them out and are so excited to wear them in 24 days!!!

We used the nail polishes in the above pictures. The jeweled stripes are Kiss Nail Artist Stickers that I cut into strips. We are very happy with our bands and are so excited to wear them. We both have small wrists, so we were able to remove the outer grey band.

Just finished the first one using nail polish! All of the silver designs have clear glow in the dark over them. The black outline of the mickey head is ultra fine point sharpie, then there are two coats of clear over the whole thing. I may still add glow in the dark to the grey part, or possibly silver sparkles, but I'm not really a glitter kind of person.
My next project is to turn hubby's grey band into a death star/star wars theme...
20 days to go :)
