to report a car accident just AMAZE me.

Maybe if you weren't talking on the phone & driving at the same time, you wouldn't have HAD an accident.

Simply amazing. LOL

I talk on my cell whle driving about 80% of the time. I use a hands free model, with voice dialing. Both my hands are on the wheel. It's the same as having a passenger in the seat next to me. Just like I would with that passenger, when conditions warrant it, I stop the conversation and give 110% of my attention to driving. I have no problem telling the person I'm talking to "Hold on a minute" when there's some kerfuffel ahead, or even hanging up abruptly when the weather gets bad or traffic gets heavy.

I think that the people with the handheld cells are dangerous. Especially those trying to talk, smoke, drink coffee and apply makeup al at once. :earseek:

:confused3 If that call got help out to a person in distress a few minutes earlier, it's a risk I would be willing to take. :)

I have a thing about people trying to drive and talk and drink and smoke and do make up all at the same time too - drives me nuts since those always seem to be the ones trying to get over in my lane without checking their blind spot!

And by the way - what is "kerfuffel?" That's the coolest word I've heard in a long time - my 6 year old would love it but I have to make sure that it's ok to tell her first! :sunny:

These aren't calls made from the scene...so no one is in distress.

A phone call to file a claim takes time, & the customers undivided attention. The customers needs to provide information & descriptions. AND they will have to write information down given to them.

People can't do this while they are driving. They always say.... oh, I need to pull over.

They should have thought of that before they called.

I've also had people call to buy an insurance policy while driving.

BUYING INSURANCE & FILING CLAIMS is just stuff that you don't do while driving -- hands free or not.

Sadly, that may be the only available time they have to do these tasks. I'm not trying to excuse driving and yakking on a cell phone, but most people I know, myself included, often find themselves having to multi-task a lot more than we used to.

Kerfuffle is a made up word that I stole from my friend. It means exactly what it sounds like it should mean--kerfuffle. LOL! Perfectly acceptable to say around kids or grandmothers. :D

Oh! Now that you explain it a bit more, I agree. I'm not going to say that I've never been in a situation where I unexpectedly needed to take down information, but I always tell the person on the other end of the line that I"m driving and need to pull over. If it's anything where I KNOW I'm going to need to look up info or take down notes, I wait until I'm home, or at least parked before I start the call.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about a bystander who's driving by and sees an accident, then calls 911 to report it.

Tee hee - thanks Anne!!! :rotfl:

I made hotel and dinner reservations while running 10 miles 2 weeks ago. I certainly hope I didnt' offend the cast member when I couldn't write anything down. ;)

LOL, Lisa, I think that's ok.

I guess my biggest gripe is that if they can't give their driving their undivided attention, and have ANOTHER accident, then we have to pay out ANOTHER claim.

We are actually told to encourage customers to call back when they are NOT driving.
