Customer service gone in the airlines?

Since Delta is one of the airlines in bancruptcy, you may find the employees a little less caring than usual.

I beg to differ. I fly Delta a lot and have had no problems. Recently (starting in December) the flight attendants have been going out of tehir way to be nice. They are nervous about the USAir takeover bid and the resulting impacts on their jobs. I suppose there is some irony in there, but that is for another debate.

As I said, I have no problem with Delta. I have been a 'victim' of their seat changing policy (fortunately I catch it early and have someone change it back). I once asked and they said it has to do with re-issuing the tickets. I am a computer programmer and can't see how difficult it would be to change their reservation system such that if the shcedule changes 10 minutes, all seat selections get wiped out. But Delta has always seemed behind the curve when it comes to their computer systems.

I wouldn't say it's poor customer service, it's poor computer systems.

And if you wear one of those "Keep Delta MY Delta" buttons they practically KISS you.

For those of you trashing Delta, if USAir gets thier way plan on it getting MUCH MUCH worse. USAir has some of the worst labor relations in the industry and is the ONLY airline I know of where baggage handlers leave your luggage at the wrong airport on PURPOSE! (Yes, they have publicly admitted that they know luggage needs to be loaded but since they don't like management they don't really do thier jobs. SHEESH! )

Personally if I have a seat I like I will change it for a parent to sit with a child, but not for adults to sit together. I don't know how many other people feel that way. I would think it would be best to try and take care of this before you get on the plane if possible, but if you aren't bringing children (not clear on where the children will be if you're bringing any) I can't imagine expecting someone else to switch seats.

I was thinkning a similar thing, which is why I asked how old any children were. No reply as of yet, on that. I, too, would probably not switch seats so that 2 adults could sit together, especially on a not-very-long flight. Perhaps when Delta changed the flights, they put children with their families, then spread the adult-only parties into the rest of the available seats. If the OP is just herself and her DH, they may have been given less priority for adjoining seats than families with kids.

Sorry, I've been away from the comp.
We are 2 adults flying with 1 child. (just want to mention I always fly Delta and love them) Delta did seat DS with me, but sat DH 5 rows away. The issue I have is we were the first party to purchase seats on this flight at 331 days out. At 74 days out when there are no longer any available seating left, they separate my family. They are very sorry, but no seats. I had a comfirmed reservation, they took my money and only changed the return by 10 min. Same plane, same flight #. I would not have booked that flight if they did not have 3 seats togather. I would have flown at another time.
I also want you to know that I'm getting over it.;)
We'll be fine.

It's not that there are no available seats, it's just that there are no advance-reservable seats left. Really, keep calling and checking online - peoples' travel plans change. Plus, as has been stated earlier (in this thread I think but it could be the AirTran complaint thread :)) chances are people will change seats when they check in for the flight, plus there are those "elite" seats that the airlines hold until the day before the flight in case frequent fliers want them.

Keep in mind, when the schedule changes and seats become unassigned, the computer doesn't first of all rebook seats automatically, and it doesn't pay any attention to who bought their seats first or who paid the most. They treat everyone the same - they unreserve ALL the seats.

I will if you are NICE. Coming back from Costa Rica the woman just took my seat and was VERY rude about it! She got to sit in her assigned seat and I sat next to her 14 year old daughter. Mom told me I had to take her center seat and was just 'witchy' If she had polietly asked she might have gotten what she wanted...... So be nice! (If she had had a toddler I proably would have given her the seat even though she was a witch!)
