I feel for people who serve the public, but never as much as I did last week.:guilty:

I got on the line behind one very well dressed older woman. She had about 20 items on the 10 or less line. Oh well..

She asked the clerk if he matched competitor prices. He told her no, they did not. She wanted to see a manager. :headache:

The manager came and told her the same thing the cashier told her. She then asked if they take competitors coupons. For this they say "yes"

So she pulls out a load of pages of UNCUT coupons. :headache::headache:

She went thru them slowly and picked a few. NONE matched what she had.

The line was growing behind me and there were no shorter lines so I knew I was stuck.

Then she pulled out a sheet asking if she would get a free gas card with a gift card purchase. Problem? GCS are in AISLE 17!!! :headache: She'll be right back.... :headache::headache: :headache:

The cashier, a young guy, was very patient but I could tell he was about to blow.

She finally gets back, insists her items must be rung up on three different bills.

For EACH, she pulls out a different checkbook.:headache: AND she doesn't have a pen, so she borrowed one from the cashier.:sad2:

After writing each check she wanted her bags REBAGGED because they were going different places.

:headache::headache::mad::rolleyes1

After that was done she DEMANDS, not asks, DEMANDS, that someone help her take her things to her car. The same manager comes over and does it... with this face...

Poor guy finally gets to me. I told him was that the customer from hell??? He shook his head and agreed. Then he said, "she can't be finished, she'll be back".

Sure enough she comes barging back into the store holding some items and a newspaper, ready to cause some more crap.

I had to leave. NO WAY I would've been able to be as patient as that guy was!

I was behind her sister or friend the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Every item, and I do mean every item, did not ring up at the price she expected. That's because she picked the wrong thing every time--organic olive oil instead of regular, tangerines instead of clementines, etc. The cashier was amazingly patient with her. She wasn't as bad as your friend, but she was a pain.

After all that, how could there not have been a shorter line? I would have been out of there. Even a line 2-3 deep would have ultimately been a shorter wait. And that's unusual for Publix, they are hyper sensitive to lines and normally open up additional lines when they see a potential for a delayed/long wait.

It was between 5 and 6pm during rush hour in Atlanta to give you an idea of how bad it was. If the line was shorter the person on it had a million items. All the people behind me would've bolted before me if there was one! :lmao:

Actually it was like watching an I Love Lucy rerun. Everyone on the line was in hysterics by the time it was over!

At some point a situation like that just does become funny.

I can see how you would be somewhat stuck if you're next. If you're at all an optimist you think "surely this is her last issue" and you just know that if you move to a longer line, she would finish up and there you would be in some super long line.

I feel fairly certain she had a hidden disability and how dare you for posting this.

:lmao: Wow, talk about a royal pain in the butt ...

I was going to give some long winded story of this one time I worked at Macy's, and found myself faced w/ a similar type of customer ... but I don't feel like getting angry. So maybe some other time ... :rotfl:

I was behind a similar person in Target last week, though she was less demanding. She had an entire stack of coupons she'd given to the cashier, but none of them were ringing up as purchased. The cashier could manually accept the coupon (this happens to me where I've legitimately bought something and the coupon doesn't automatically match in their computer); however, all of this lady's coupons were not ringing up. So one-by-one he was asked her, "Did you buy this?" "Did you buy 3 of these?" etc. At least half of them she admitted that no, she didn't purchase that item.
I did end up getting in a different line, and she was still checking out when I left!

Not quite as bad but I was about two people back at the pharmacy in Wal Greens (you know those lines are always slow). The woman at the front was there to pick up a prescription refill for her daughter. The guy at the register told her that the insurance company would not cover the prescription refill without her doctor's approval. The lady went into this long story on how her daughter had taken her last pill that day, did not have one to take tomorrow and how she would be terrible in school without it. The guy checked something on his screen and said that he could not give them a pill to tide her over like he normally would because of the type of medicine she was taking but she could pay for the prescription and come back later for the discount once the doctor's approval was given.

That lady went into this long tirade about how her daughter's grades were going to suffer now because she wouldn't have her medicine the next day as if it were the pharmacy's fault instead of hers for not getting the prescription in earlier or contacting the doctor. She finally left in a huff when she saw he wouldn't budge.

I just can't believe how some people act.

Now I'm dying to know..... which Publix?

Now I'm dying to know..... which Publix?

Publix on Shallowford Rd in Atlanta. It's a stop off point for everyone getting off the expressway on their way home from work. Since it's intown, it's a smaller Publix.

Well if I was the manager and she was doing all of that, I would have told her off, and if she wasn't happy with that, she can happily shop somewhere else...

Sometimes keeping a customer like that isn't the best thing for the rest of your customers.

Some people these days think they can get away with any kind of rude behavior and I just want to punch them in the face. :rolleyes1

That one and the one on West Paces - the "mini" versions.....they stay really busy and you're right... lots of commuter stoppage.....I now understand why that drove you nuts.

I found a HUGE one near my home, newer and less chance of gridlock! Unfortunately it's off my commute so I go to that one more often. I know so many people there my sister asked me if I had a pt job there!!:lmao: I really LOVE Publix! :thumbsup2
