Hi Everyone:
I am thinking about rejoining Curves. I really liked it, but they kept changing the hours. For example, they stopped Saturdays which was always a definite for me, especially on a holiday weekend when they were closed on the Monday. Then, they cut back some of the evening hours and I couldn't make it there in time to do a full workout so I got really frustrated and dropped my membership. I'm just wondering what other people have experienced and just interested in their likes and dislikes. It's been a couple of years since I left and didn't know if anything had changed.
Thanks for all the help.

I was a member 3 years ago, but I quit when a family illness played havoc with my schedule. I just rejoined this month, and my center has a new program called CurveSmart, where you get a little key that you plug into each machine to track your progress. At the end of each session, you go to a kiosk where it tells you how many calories you burned, and all sorts of charts and graphs to show your progress.

The hours still aren't ideal, but the CurveSmart program is giving me some instant gratification and that little boost of motivation I needed. Good luck with your decision; and please let me know if you want to know anything more about how Curves may have changed recently. I only just started back up, so I'm still new to it all, but hopefully I can help! :thumbsup2

Hi JunebugTN
First, thank you for responding. I really like the sounds of the CurvesSmart program. I am going to have to call and see if they have the CurvesSmart at my Curves. I really felt I got a good workout at Curves, plus I did my own set of floor exercises. I am really leaning towards rejoining and I need to make up my mind.
It looks like you'll be at DW at the same time as us. Have a wonderful trip. I know I'm looking forward to our trip.
Again, thank you for responding.

I am currently a Curves member, but I am not going to renew my membership when it expires. I have been going to Curves on and off for about three years, and I feel that it has done nothing for me. However, part of my problem is having three small children and not being really able to go 3X a week, because they are home from school/preschool or on vacation.

I found with Curves I would build alot of muscle but my over all measurement never went down, I just got larger. When I was really good about going to the gym I would be able to build some really nice muscle tone, and then I would not get to the gym and it would all "sag". As a busy mom I feel that Curves did not help relax me, it was sort of stressful (especially Curvessmart). When the kids go back to school, I am going to try walking a few times a week to see if that will help. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Hi LJRJR:
I actually have my membership at a gym on hold. I did like the gym and it also has a pool. The problem was two fold. The membership is high and I found that for some reason, through my own fault, I would only use the treadmill. Although I felt good after using the treadmill, I always did an hour on it, I just felt I wasn't getting enough work on all areas. The gym definitely has more hours, including Sundays. I'm just having a hard time deciding.
Thank you for your input.

Different things work for different people. My mother loves Curves (she is a very active 70 year old), she swears by it. For me it was stressful to get there, last year I had three hours a day three days a week to myself, and I felt that it took up to much of my time (even though exercise is very important). Over the last few year I have put on all of my weight in my middle (I am currently about 30lbs more than I should be), I hope that this year maybe walking and doing some light weights by myself will help as well as doing a lower carb/ Weight Watchers. Good luck with your choice. I have about three months left on my Curves membership, maybe when the kids go back to school I would reconsider going back again, even only 2X a week. My muscle tone is OK, I really need to work on my newly found fat on my waist :scared1: .

Curves is amazing I would never think of dropping my membership... It would be like not brushing your teeth or taking a shower... it is imperative that you exercise... Curves is fun fast and effective... I lost 95 pounds with Curves and their nutritional program...our hours are amazing... 6:30am through 8 pm and on Saturdays 7:30- 12:30... You can't beat the aerobic and strength training... and the uplifting motivational staff and music... The Curves Smart is an added bonus... a personalized training system that will make your results improve because it's designed for you... personally... the feedback of this club enhancement is powerful... It knows your base line intensity and helps you to increase it over a set amount of workouts and then pushes you to the next level... Exercise along with proper nutrition is the magic pill that everyone longs for... remember the program is based on 3 times per week that is 100% benefit... You only get what you put into it... Your worth it... go and join today...I would be happy to answer any other questions you may still have... just let me know...

Do you have a FitZone in your area? I LOVE mine. It's all women and has a circuit of machines like Curves, but the machines have actual weights on them. They also have cardio machines and classes. It just has more to offer than Curves, IMHO. I think prices are quite comperable.

Hi:
Thanks for the replies. I do not have a FitZone in my area. I am still trying to decide, in the meantime, I am walking as much as I can. I did really enjoy Curves when I was a member and did go at least three times a week. However, I called and the hours again have me concerned. I'm not a morning person, so I know I'll never make it in the morning. I always went after work. They close at 7:00 p.m. Mon-Thurs and Fridays at 6:00 p.m. They are open on Saturdays. I definitely can do the Saturdays as long as they don't cut them out again. However, I cannot make it in time for Fridays because most days I can't get there before 6:00 p.m. So, you see my dilemna. I really like to do floor exercises after the workout. So if I get there at 6:00 p.m. by the time I change, etc., it cuts it close to their closing time and it's a little uncomfortable to be doing your floor exercises when the person there starts running the vacuum before you have even finished on the machines. You know if you're the last one there and the last workout is supposed to be a half hour before closing, you are actually holding that person up and it defeats the purpose of doing exercising not only for fitness, but to relief stress. Anyway, I'll make a decision about Curves or the gym probably when I return from vacation. When I first joined our Curves, they stayed open till 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Fridays with the Saturdays as well. They have moved from the original spot when I joined three times so I tend to wonder if it's due to lack of membership and the fact that they keep cutting the hours. I really liked all the people who worked there so it's not an issue of that.
