Does anyone know if there are any specials going on for the joining fee for Curves for Women. I know it's about $30/month but sometimes they have specials that wave the joining fee. I tried to call my local curves and they wouldn't give me any info over the phone saying I would need to make an appt. and come in. Anyone know? I'll gladly :worship: if you do!! :teeth:

Probably no help at all, but my wife just joined on Friday, and because it was thier anniversery or something, they waived the $75 sign up fee. Little late on this I guess, sorry.

I just joined Curves!!! :Pinkbounc The special that I got (last week) was 50%off of the one time sign up fee. The cost would have been 149, but it was 75 plus my first months fee which is 29. I am not sure if they all offer the same special at the same time.

I think starting or continuing an exercise program is excellent. Just be careful, my physical therapist has seen alot of injuries from Curves. You are not able to adjust the resistance on their machines, so beginners are at the same resistance as "experts". The therapist is seeing alot of repetitive motion injuries. Just wanted you to know...

I am also a Curves member, and as they are independent franchises (or something along those lines) each location offers different sign up incentives. So it is definitely worth shopping around to get the best sign up. At the time I did it I got a discount because my sister was already a member and I was a student.

In my Entertainment book, there is a coupon to join curves. If you have a book for your area or you know anyone who does check into it. My coupon says it can only be used at local centers in my area.

Thank you all so much for the info!! I'm very excited to start. I've heard some pretty good things about Curves. (Give me a few months and hopefully my tummy will thank you too! :teeth: )

I think you will love Curves. I joined last year and saw a difference pretty quickly. The only problem is that your body gets used to it after a while and it stops working. I'd say I had good results for about 4 months. I really loved going though. It is GREAT if you are just beginning an exercise program after being sedentary for a while. You don't walk around dumbfounded not knowing what to do. It is all figured out for you. Best of luck. It's a lot of fun! :cheer2:

I've been wondering the same thing - I know it's a weight circuit, but is there also cardio equipment?

Can you adjust the seats?

Thanks!

No, you cannot make adjustments. They are "weight" machines, I think 12 of them. In between them are "recovery boards". You do repititions with the weights for 30 sec. and run in place (or move somehow) for 30 more sec. You do this for 30 minutes and you're done. The machines are in a circle so it is social, and there are no men and no mirrors. I really enjoyed it, but after a while I was wasting my time....and money.

to get good results? I'm guessing no more than every other day?

So this is really not for someone who has some level of fitness already?

Thanks for the help.

I've been going to Curves for almost 2 years. It keeps me toned. I can feel a difference if I miss for a while. At my Curves there are women of all ages, body types and fitness levels which I really like. I've made friends there and always have a pretty pleasant workout. Give it a try! :wizard:

My personal trainer dislikes Curves also. The employees are generally not very knowledgeable about how the body works and the machines are not adjustable. Weight exercises should be done slowly, not how fast you can go in a short period of time.

Some people love Curves, others as you see, don't. Hope that it works out for you. My mom went from a size 18-20 to a 10-12 and feels much better than before she started Curves.

As for the poster who said the Curves people don't know much about the body. That depends on the Curves you're in. The one my mom worked at required her to go through a "class" (she worked through the training provided by the owner) which covered the body, muscles, safe workouts, and good nutrition. So it really must depend on the owner.

I have done a workout or two at Curves and currently have a membership at Shape Express - I can't go right now because of a medical condition - but they are very similar. The way the machines are the harder you push the more resistance - it's a hydraulic system - so if you push slowly the resistance won't be as great. If you go and haven't been working out just start out pushing more slowly and you shouldn't get injured.

If you get injured, you are not using the machines correctly.

There was a lot of negativity generated when Curves first came to our area. We literally got about 8 Curves within a year or so and the competition was getting nervous. Some even began doing their own version of a "30 minute workout just for women". Things seemed to have settled down a bit now but some of the negativity still exists.

All I can say is try it for yourself to see. If you like it and it works for you, great; if not, that's fine too.

There is also a men's version of Curves taking off called Cuts for Men. DH has already said he'll join if we get one in our area. He came to a Sadie Hawkins night at my Curves and really liked it! ;)

If you are thinking of a healthier lifestyle come join us over on the WISH board
