Current work at the Fort

We spend alot of time at the pool / meadows area because we never go to the parks while at the Fort so I welcome the new pool. I hope it has plenty of tables with umbrellas. But, man, that field is such a uniquely Fort Wilderness amenity. Where else on property can you throw around a ball with your kids, play frisbee, sand volleyball, or touch football with old and new friends?
Agree

I assume that's the Meadow that lent its name to the "Meadow Swimming Pool" and the "Meadow Trading Post".

Just another wild/wilderness thing we've lost. But of course we got more pool space.

PS - And I wish Disney would start requiring proof-of-guest-status (magic bands or similar) for entry into the Fort pool as is done in some other resort pools (heck, do them ALL).

Totally agree with this. They all should do this across property!!!

Again, hearing this in my head (over and and over and over)

THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A PARKING LOT!

For the singer/songwriter (Joni Mitchell for you kids out there)... The song is called "Big Yellow Taxi" but the refrain "... Paved Paradise ... Parking Lot" was the hook phrase:

The younger generation (which includes me to a degree) doesn't know what the HEL! they lost. Altho I am trying to catch up to the early 1970s music. I was less than 10yo but I heard a lot of great music on the AM radio of the school bus....

But they still losin'..... Joni Mitchell does not disagree.

Deniers have no serious response (although spam is their friend).

BTW this us a public service that we provide for the very needy.....

I'm really surprised to learn that they don't ID at the pools. I guess because those of us camping don't have keycards to flash at an attendant and they probably figure it would take too long to have everyone pull up their MDE.

What to do, what to do? What could possibly be used to rapidly move guests through the pool gate? Gee, how about a Magic Band scanner?

@bama_ed The music of the '70s was truly great (trust me, I was there lol). If you have SiriusXM or Dish Net they have a couple of great '70s stations.

Stormy, I've had my SXM (originally XM) subscription for decades. And you're absolutely right. :music: The mid-70s-to-the-mid-80s pop/rock music genre was creative genius in action. The Meadow Pool should play the '70s on 7' channel during open hours.

Anything having to do with the loss of Ft. Wilderness land or views (or even all the play space at Tom Sawyer Island, RIP Frontierland), has me humming about the paving of paradise. Although, as an elder millennial, it's the Counting Crows cover of Big Yellow Taxi that plays in my head.

those imagineering days have been replaced by accountineering.
Totally agree, and love that phrase. Disney at this point is riding a legacy. It is the plight of any publicly traded company that needs to constantly produce a return on investment for shareholders. They used to build experience and then the money came because of the experience. Now they are seeing how far they can cut experience to increase the money that comes. I pray someone there will wake up eventually. Disney and the Fort are such a huge part of my family's memories. I breaks my heart to watch it be whittled away at piece by piece.

It's been that way for decades, mX. Piece by piece, little by little, drip by drop.

Its core is still there at the Fort but Corporate Disney is cutting off a limb of the tree here, a limb over there. Let's hope they don't kill the tree. However, bean counters aren't arborists.

PPS - in light of the fact we are losing this view to the rear ends of some ugly DVC A-frame cabins, we need to post in the Kickin' thread more for the Interwebz history. If you come this summer/fall/winter, please post while you still can.

We’re going to be there in Feb. I will take a kickin’ it pic for sure.

I don't know if anyone else saw on the DIS DVC boards that there have already been 2 resale contracts offered and bought on the secondary market for the Cabins at Fort Wilderness.

Also on the DVC boards the cabin sales continue to crawl and sell very slowly. The hope is that the cabins with their high maintenance fees will be merged into the same trust/association that the eyesore behind Pioneer Hall is which will end up the with the resort/timeshare rooms having a blended lower-overall/same maintenance fee level with the cabins that will be less than what the stand-alone cabins have to pay now.

There is a thread on another forum I belong to which has photos of the Meadow construction.

I don’t want to copy the photos to post here. Am I allowed to post a link to the other forum? I don’t want to break any DIS rules.

You can post a link. If it's not allowed, the link will look like this ***************.

I am searching for Sirius discounted Offers …I was a subscriber and miss it .
If you know of something I would probably sign up for 2 year
Thanks

I was just standing on bridge walk from BLT view of that construction and was shocked at size… seriously we know how long that pier is when we walk down it to watch the Electrical Water Pageant …for comparison !
But more recent helicopter views are scary big !

Will it be the monster that devours the Fort ?

I admit I will take a DVC tour just to check this out probably the only time I will afford to enter haha

I started this thought and not sure if I completed it but… Disney and Universal really needs to consider the Gaylord Style of design with massive covered dome like property . Grapevine, Texas is really prettier than Kissimmee location. They compete with these massive entertainment corporations and know how to survive.
Also have to mention the Great Wolf Lodge now in Garden Grove neighborhood of Disneyland . Their children’s tent like resorts or $$$ but so fun ! Also in Grapevine so far …not near WDW yet
Hope you all have a heat dome for survival in your tent or RVs for the future …

I've had Siruis forever, since it's inception. It's weird that you have to call to cancel but you can't do it online. I always get a great deal when I try to cancel because it's gotten too expensive. You might try calling and asking for the best deal. I think the sales associates are allowed to negotiate.

Thanks!

Just for future reference DVC has a yearly Meet in early December and they have had “preview” tours day before Grand Opening usually for Riviera and the Cabins so find a DVC friend and try to get invited just in case in December 2026 The meetings are always at the Contemporary

Also , of interest currently 63 cabins are considered “declared” into DVC inventory for booking
WDW still has 300 cabins for their cash reservation inventory …
DVC inventory will increase as the sales are monitored for need
But currently the Cabins are booked out way far in advance .
If the FWCabins are home resort we can book at 11 months
Non home resort booking will open with 7 month bookings !
Good luck finding availability which is causing DVC to crack down on massive bots that are lightning fast at the 11 month for those desirable locations and dates with rentals .
