I heard from someone I'm sailing within next year, this current PC repo is skipping Puerta Vallarta due to "civil unrest." She has a friend on the current repo. Anyone else hear this?

Yes. I read about it on another social site that I frequent. It was posted by someone currently on the Wonder that they were skipping the port for safety reasons.

Big annoyance on the Royal forum at cruisecritic about it. People who live in PV say that the recent stuff isn't a big deal and wouldn't impact the tourists at all but the cruise lines are staying away.

How sad! I feel bad for the people of PV who will lose all that tourism revenue.

This! All the things that were posted this week is old news..we love PV, were there as recently as last June.....would not hesitate to go again.

I got the news from a friend on the ship as well. At least their excursions and port taxes etc are being refunded. It is sad for the people who make their livings from the cruise ships. They're adding extra activities for the extra sea day.

We were there for five days in March and have plans to return in November but this recent bout of violence sounds much worse to me. Burning banks and gas stations? Burning cars as road blocks? Using a grenade launcher to take down a military copter? This is not the usual stuff. Jalisco has not previously seen the kind of violence that began on May 1. For now my plans remain unaffected for mg November trip there but I'm going to be watching the situation with a critical eye.

With that kind of violence I think I'd be glad they cancelled it. I'm not a scaredy-cat, but I don't think I'd want to get off if they didn't cancel. I'd then have paid for an excursion I didn't use and I'd be concerned for those who did get off.

I am aboard the Wonder and I wholeheartedly agree with this decision, we visited Puerto Vallarta on our 2014 WB Panama Crossing and we enjoyed that port very much. I have not heard any complaints from other guests and I am sure DCL will line up some great entertainment for us. I really feel sorry for the people of Mexico as they have endured too much violence over the past few years and incidents like this will have a lasting impact on family oriented tourism.

...and now I just saw another thread where they had to stop in Guatemala for a medical emergency. Sounds like a bit of an unusual cruise they are having.

We did not dock in Guatemala, we anchored off shore near Puerto San Jose for about five hours while we waited for the port authorities to give us the all clear to proceed...we are underway and will make Cabo on time...

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I did not like PV when we went on the 2005 PC Cruise. I thought it was sketchy back then. Was propositioned for sex, drugs, etc. I know that happens in many ports but this was by far the worse we have experienced. Hey, I know the Love Boat always docked there but PV has changed a lot.

I really enjoyed PV and NV with my family last summer and had no issues at all. But I was not a cruise passenger - I wonder if they are targeted more often? I love the Mexican people and culture and am so sad about the violence :(

Yes, it is sad that people have been unable or unwilling to maintain civil order in an area that looks to tourism for their livelihood. Seems like when the Wonder was based in LA doing MR cruises there were port cancellations for similar issues. The people of Mexico need to find a way to address the problem or I fear the decline in tourism will be an ongoing issue. They are the only people who can make their country inhospitable to the drug trade and get the tourists back.

After my friends and I got over the initial shock of being asked if we wanted a boyfriend for the day we laughed it off but it a few times around the port area.
That was nice of them to ask.
