Current status of keys, wallets, coins, etc?

We will be taking our first visit to Universal in February, and I'm quite stressed about the bags/no bags/metal detector situation. Do the metal clasps on the lanyards not cause a problem? We could just put our express passes in our pockets, but keeping the lanyard on would be much handier. Do you just tuck it inside your shirt?

I've read that the lockers are only free for a short amount of time. If we want to ride two or three times in a row, do we need to enter the locker and get a new one each time?

Don't stress, there's nothing to worry about :)

We have never had an issue with lanyards and metal detectors, we do tuck our lanyards into our tops on most rides.

We also ride numerous times and the locker was still free on those rides.......RRR for example we rode 4 or 5 times a few times in a row in September last year. Lockers were fine for those rides for us......we don't carry bags or anything except I have a Kipling Multiple which is allowed on other rides as it has the three prong clasp that is allowed. The three rides with metal detectors don't allow anything now for obvious reasons.......

When you rent the locker, it will tell you how long the free period is. Just make sure you get back there before that time is expired or you will have to pay to get your stuff back. Most of them are the length of the line plus 10 minutes or so, to allow for people to wait for front seats or other short delays. If the ride goes down at any time during your rental, it should be automatically extended for you, but if not, just speak to one of the attendants in the locker area and they'll help you out.

Most of the larger rides don't allow any type of bag on the ride itself. Any ride that has free lockers provided but not metal detectors, you're going to want to put everything in it that doesn't fit securely in your pockets. If you can go completely bag-free, try to do so, as the locker areas can be excessively crowded and claustrophobic.

Also, a hidden secret most people don't know: Forbidden Journey has on-car storage. In roughly where the small of your back would be on the back of the seat, there is a small fold-out pocket. It's big enough to fit a pair of glasses or a cell phone (I can fit my huge Note 3 in it). Just don't forget it when you get off!

My lanyard has never caused an issue. I just tuck it inside my shirt . The lockers are usually free for the length of one ride( based on the standby line wait time). If you have express pass you can possibly squeeze in a 2nd trip before the locker expires, but not always.

Wow! Thank you all for your replies! :thanks:

I'm an obsessive planner. My family tells me all the time to relax more, but I want to be prepared! :hyper:

I'm glad to know that the lanyards are a go through the metal detectors.

I'm sure that we'll get the hang of it pretty quickly! :thumbsup2

Not to beat a dead horse, but just want to make sure I understand the rules . . . (I assume it's pretty easy to spot the obsessive planners here!)

I can take a lanyard with park tickets on ANY ride, even the rides with metal detectors - correct?

What about a lanyard that holds a phone (I'm thinking about getting one of those waterproof phone "pouches" that's attached to a lanyard - it's just slightly larger than the size of a phone) - would that be allowed on the rides with metal detectors? What about the rides that don't have metal detectors but don't allow bags other than a waist pack?

Thanks so much!

You can wear your lanyard on all rides but tuck it under your top to keep it secure on the coaster rides

I stick my cell phone in my bra for the rides
I don't do RRR so can't advise you on that ride if you don't use a locker

I'd just use the lockers. It's such a time suck to wait in the metal detector line and get sent to the lockers. It's nice to not have to worry about your stuff too. In the 3 days at the park, I only had 1 frustrating locker experience and I used them a lot.
But to really answer your question, I bet they'd send you back with a phone in a lanyard. They really just don't want you to have anything that could fall off of fling out and hurt someone. They were sued in the past and are extra cautious.

I know at the dragon challenge, you walk a bit before coming to the metal detectors...like bchbetha said, I would rather use the lockers than be sent all the way back. You can ask the workers at the beginning of the line if they think it would be OK, but if the workers at the metal detectors say no, it's back you go.

Its nowhere near as onerous as "the internet" is making it out to be... Takes a couple of seconds to rent a locker, and doesn't cost you anything. I found it easier than trying to cram all our crap into the pockets of my cargo shorts.

But whatever you do, don't leave the keys to your rental car in a locker on the day you are heading to the airport...panic will ensue... :)

I read a thread of what happened to a person that did that
It's been sometime back and still feel bad on what they went through
