Hi All,
We just came back from 12 magical days @ SSR and we were concerned about a few things for one the current state of the main pool. It looks like it needs a serious cleaning and the water slide needs a referb. The Donald play area was broken again as the fountain was shut off and the soft material was coming up from the ground and was ripped. I'm probably over reacting to this but just kind of irks me that my (and everyone else’s) dues aren't being used properly. And this year I had the great experience of skateboarders. They were great. Riding their skateboards down the halls at all times of the night. A call to the front desk did little to remove this irritation. Where are their parents?? :confused3 The best thing was all of the kids, 14 and under at the pool after the life guards had gone off duty. No parents around kids playing slide bowling. If you’re not familiar with this sport it consists of a 14 year old sliding down the kid slide while the youngsters are trying to walk up the slide. It’s a laugh riot. NOT! Other than that we had a great vacation. :)

Does the pool water look dirty? Don't know about the other issues and of course, they should be fixed/repaired. I thought I read that the water in the pool is supposed to be that way. (not dirty but just looks that way) - someone else will clarify.

You should definitely write DVC about the Donald Play Area and the skateboarders. They really need to fix Donald once and for all as he has had consistent outages since the resort has opened.
My children are older, but you are right, he needs to be repaired properly.

Not sure if you were referring to the brown tint of the pool, but it is painted brown to look like a natural spring.

You are allowed to swim in the HRS pool after the lifeguards leave. Prior to leaving, they make an annoucement that they are off duty and swimming is at your own risk. The Springs does not have a quiet pool like, the Paddocks and Congress Park.
As for the horseplay, those parents should have better control of their children. No way I would let my boys swim at night and not be present. The slides are covered by the lifeguards prior to their departure, so security should have been notified about the improper use of the slide.
I know its not my business (well maybe it is) but I will say something to out of line children.

Did you use the Community Hall? How was the rest of your stay? Spa? I'd love to hear more!

My kids went to the pool at about midnight when we stayed at the Contemporary, and there were a bunch of drunken adults smoking and drinking in the hot tub. I picked up the phone and called the front desk, but they did nothing. The kids came back to the room disappointed. I don't think they like to chastise anyone for anything. Just ignore it and it will go away. Vacations are short. There is not to much you can do I think.

I told my wife about the color of the pool being a slight tint of brown but she made me put on my daughters goggles and swim down to the bottom and look near the drains and sure enough they were dirty all around the drain area.

I'll tell ya once those life guards left the kids came from outta nowhere. I was just totally amazed.

We didn't use the hall but we did manage to use the new eatery, the Turf room. It was great. And we also took our daughter on a horse drawn carriage ride which was fantastic and we enjoyed that very much. My wife used the SPA for some nail treatment which I believed she liked.

We go down in July for our daughters birthday every year, this was her ninth B'day trip and her twelfth trip overall and we have never had a bad time at WDW. And the same goes for this trip we still had a great time. MT. Everest was great. Thanks to some kind CM's and the good old B'day button we rode Everest 6 times in just under an hour. My daughter loved it my back on the other hand complained after ride two. :)

One of the highlights of the trip was when a tremendous rain storm hit on Monday while we were at Animal Kingdom. That day our party consisted of family and friends with the total number of people at 10. We normally rent a car as I don't like to take the bus but the rest of our crew didn't rent a car so imagine 10 people, six adults and four kids all getting in to a Jeep Liberty and then driving all the way back to SSR. :rotfl2:

But once again memories were created, good times were shared and thoughts of next July were running rampant through everyones mind. Thanks DVC for another great time. :)

I couldn't agree more. The bad things didn't faze us in the least. It just amazed me is all.

Thanks for posting your trip report. We are going in October for my son's 8th birthday. Just curious, what is the birthday button you mentioned?

when we were at the resort in begining of July, the Donald fountain was only half working also. We had no issues with skateboarders on any of our trips yet. But if we had, my wife or I would have no problem with asking thier parents to reign in thier kids. We did see people swimming at night, but didn't see kids out of control without thier parents. But, I am sure it happens. We were at the beach last week, and were in bed by 10PM. Well around 11PM some kids thought it would be grest to have a fireworks show, on the beach, in front of the hotel. All we could hear was BOOM...BOOM...BOOM for 15 minutes. To top it off, Fireworks are illegal in Maryland......Kids!

WE too just got back from 12 days on Tuesday. We have been to SSR three times in about 2 years, and Donald at the pool is always broken.

I agree, it should be fixed.

After many years of WDW vacations I am fairly certain of one thing: Disney will virtually NEVER do anything to curb the behavior of a guest who is just "having fun"--even when that fun is at your (or my) expense.

pirate: My family just came back from a stay at SSR. Donald was working but there were a lot of parents who kept encouraging their kids to climb on Donald for pictures. :confused3 A couple of moms even sang a pitiful song about sitting on Donald. :rotfl2: The pool was in good shape and after the lifeguards left some kids did come but I did notice Disney Security walking through the area a few times so maybe this kept the kids behaved!! SSR was fun once again :yay:

You can get a "It's my Birthday" button at any of the guest service locations.

We are taking my 3 nephews next year for thier birthdays. They all have the same birthday- no kidding - a set of twins and a single. I know we will get some strange looks if we put birthday buttons on all 3 of them! :lmao:
