Current security procedures for wheelchairs

Less than one month til I get to disneyland since last sept.,Just wonderin if the metal detectors are still random and how they handle wheelchairs. Do they make u take off jewerly andwatches?

I don't know about current wheelchair procedure (you might want to email Guest Services to ask about that), but Disney security is not like TSA at all. First, security CMs are friendly (!). And we've never been asked to remove any jewelry, belts, shoes, etc. There are little bins on the side of the metal detectors for a purse, wallet, keys, cell phone (basically whatever is in your pockets). You get everything back as soon as you go through the detector.

good to know has it really slowed down entrance time or not much?

We haven't noticed that it's slowed us down by more than a few minutes most of the time. If time is an issue, give yourself a buffer, just in case.

My last trip with a wheelchair was all that recent (mid march) but the security measures then was metal detectors by random selection, and neither I, nor my child who was in a wheelchair were chosen. the security guys looked at us, looked at the wheel chair and smiled and kept on walking.

Universal Studios was a different story altogether.

I've heard that depending on the level of security for the day, everyone is going through the metal detectors now. I had to take my stepmother through the metal detectors one time on a very random selection. They security working the metal detector itself took one look at my stepmother and let her bypass. I pushed her over to the side, then went through and picked her up. I can't guarantee this is the case for everyone, but I think they saw my stepmother, who's close to 90 and on oxygen and decided it wasn't worth the time to make her remove everything to go through.

The last few times I went everyone had to go through the metal detectors.

We went twice this past week and didn't have to go through the esplanade detectors. At the GCH DCA entrance, everyone goes through the detectors.

I've only been there once when everyone had to go through the detector. I've seen people choose to go through even when not asked by a CM. Last night so many people were opting to go through the CMs were asking them not to and specifically telling people don't slow down, don't go that way, keep walking straight. It was pretty funny, so many people wanted to go through that it was causing a backup to the bag check.

I've been told to take my FitBit off my wrist. Something like a small chain or wedding ring I imagine could stay on. A lanyard full of pins I'd expect to take off. I just empty my pockets, including my phone and AP before the bag check, just in case, and then I shift everything back to my pockets as I enter the park or shortly after.

When we use the GCH entrance, the CMs send everyone through the detector. But we don't use that entrance during peak times, so the security lines are usually pretty short (maybe 5-10 guests or so). That must have been amusing to see the CMs telling guests to skip the detector!

I use an ECV. When I approach they usually ask if I can take a few steps thru the metal detector. Due to balance issues, I ask to be wanded. They can do that while I am in the chair. It usually takes all of 20 seconds.

I was there on Tuesday. Everyone went through the detector.
