Can anyone very recently at the parks comment on the current state of the plastics ban, especially lids on beverages at QS? I have virtually no balance and will be using an ECV, so I'm very concerned about negotiating with a drink on my trray. And I'll be solo, so no option to have someone with me carry my drink.

No lids on cups at QS/TS but all offer durable paper straws. I would ask the server to ensure the cup is not filled to the rim to avoid spillage issues. It's what eateries used to do before disposable lids were available.

HTH!

We returned from WDW last Saturday.

There were no lids when we went in february. It was super annoying to carry the trays, especially when there were stairs (eg columbia harbor house). My poor DS4 spilled his brother’s icy sprite all over himself so was freezing and sticky and I had to clean up a huge mess on the table and floor. A CM helped and said it happened all the time since they got rid of lids...

Suggestion for the future: ask the CM to put all drinks on one tray and have it carried by a more adept adult. The younger ones can carry the food easier. Also what was done pre lids.

I actually did try that once and my oldest kid (age 7) tipped his tray and spilled food all over the floor. After that I just made two pickup runs by myself.

Also, the drink spill happened while we were at the table (just a stray elbow) so other tray arrangements do not help solve the problem.

I have done many trips as a solo traveler with an ECV and now a power wheelchair. Frequently, the cast member handing you the tray will offer to have someone carry it for you. If they don't, please, speak up and ask for assistance. I used to say no because I am really good at managing on my own then, a server told me that they like being able to carry the tray. Why, because it gets them out from behind the counter for a different experience and earns them appreciation from their supervisors. I have also had a tween or teenager ask to help or a parent volunteering their tween or teenager help. I alway accept that kind of offer because reinforcing the learning of empathy and compassion is a good thing.

My how times have changed. Makes me want to "steal" some lids from a fast food restaurant here before I go! (j/k)

I am also in an svc at Disney. Do not hesitate to ask a cast member for assistance at any time you feel you need the help. They are more than willing and if they "go a nice and beyond" make a note of name, location and time. Reward them for their service by complimenting them at Guest Services.

Hope you have a great trip! I echo the PP. please do ask for assistance carrying your meal tray. They will be happy to help you.

This is the first Im hearing about a plastics ban. I there a reason? Could I bring my own straw and keep it in a ziplock in my pocketbook? Not throw it away? I do not like paper straws at all. Makes everything taste nasty.

Thanks for reminding me! On my last trip, I had several CMs offer to carry my food to my table for me. And at one place, as soon as they put my try up, a kind guest right behind me grabbed my tray and asked me "OK, where would you like to sit". I got a kick out of one CM-he made it plain to his co-workers in the kitchen that "I have to go help this guest", then after carrying my tray, he offered to get me napkins, then noticed I didn't have a spoon "You might like to have a spoon for that just in case". It really looked to me that he just didn't want to go back to work in that hot kitchen and I was his excuse.

I posted a link above - Disney is taking steps to reduce plastic waste is various ways.

Everywhere except AK, sure. AK has only ever allowed paper straws for animal safety.
If you bring a metal or silicone straw from home that's reusable, I don't see how that would impact AK, it's not a throwaway plastic straw that might get eaten/choked on by an animal. My plans for the next trip are to bring a selection of silicone straws on our trip and wash them at least a few times throughout. Do they still sell Mickey plastic straws?

When we were there in April. drink lids weren't put out, but they were available if you asked at the counter. Has that changed and they are totally gone now?

I was thinking the same thing and hoping the cups were the standard fast food size. To get around the "stealing" aspect.....the next few time you eat fast food, take the lid but don't use it and save it for the Disney trip. I think I will do that as at MCD my seat is usually an even 20 step walk to my table. At Disney, we sometimes have to walk around a bit to find a table. My son and a cup with no lid will be a disaster.

I'm all for helping reduce waste. That being said, a recycle bin next to garbage cans would help. Now I understand not everyone cares and would throw garbage in recycle and recycle in garbage. But I see myself getting a drink on a hot afternoon and walking in crowds with it open. One bump into another person and 2 people are wearing a drink, and I am out $$. I do not know how large or cumbersome the refillable mugs are from the resorts, but I see myself bringing them and dumping the drink into those...if I get the dining plan. If I don't get it, then bringing my Dollywood cups. That should go over well. 👿
