Current plastics ban-lids

When we were there in April. drink lids weren't put out, but they were available if you asked at the counter. Has that changed and they are totally gone now?
We were there in April and earlier this month but to honest I never even thought to ask for a lid. I will say that the straw provided with the Dole Whip floats lasted 1.5 days before it began to disintegrate - not only am I a slow eater but the same is true when I drink, LOL. The floats and a milk shake were the only sweetened container items we had at WDW. Mostly we drink water in the parks and it creates no staining or stickiness if spilt.

I bring in a Yeti cup and dump my drink in it, it has a close-able lid and a straw. Keeps it cold too. Bonus! Of course you have to lug the cup around all day but you can stash it in the ECV til you need it maybe.

How does this work for you? I’ve been thinking about buying a rambler with the closable straw lid for water at home, but the reviews online are so terrible. So many people say that when you open the straw it just shoots liquid everywhere and that it is especially true for carbonated beverages. Do you have that problem?

I use bubba straws! I keep them in a baggie then stick them in the Yeti when I need them and remove for storing. Avoids that problem. They’re flexible, they also push down into the yeti too and I can close the lid no problem (I do have the 30oz yeti with magnetic slider lid)

I would absolutely bring my own cup with lid and straw. I'm happy to hear that others in this thread have had luck with cast members agreeing to carry things for them, but any cast member I've ever asked has told me they're not allowed to do that.

This is the first Im hearing about a plastics ban. I there a reason? Could I bring my own straw and keep it in a ziplock in my pocketbook? Not throw it away? I do not like paper straws at all. Makes everything taste nasty.

I went in April. My nephew and I brought reusable silicon straws that I bought off of Amazon. They worked very well and did not have the bad taste that paper straws can have.

We ended up bringing our resort mugs with us and just filled those up. Had straws packed (hidden as needed for AK) and reusable ones just in case. We also had a few lids with us if we needed them but rarely bothered as the mugs worked well. We tend to re-use everything multiple times regardless but the mugs come in real handy. Also made it easy to re-fill when we got back to the resort as they weren't stuck in the room and I could just head to the machine and fill them on the way.

Can anyone very recently at the parks comment on the current state of the plastics ban, especially lids on beverages at QS? I have virtually no balance and will be using an ECV, so I'm very concerned about negotiating with a drink on my trray. And I'll be solo, so no option to have someone with me carry my drink.
We were there in early June, no lids and only paper straws which only last for a short period of time before dissolving enough/losing its shape enough to not be able to use. I will say we felt like we hit the jackpot one day at sunshine seasons as they had LIDS!!!! I can't explain how excited we were. - We have a stroller and cannot hold a beverage in it without a lid otherwise it sloshes all over the place. The lids are sweetheart brand - I made sure to take note because we'll be ordering some along with real straws before our next trip.

No lids on cups at QS/TS but all offer durable paper straws. I would ask the server to ensure the cup is not filled to the rim to avoid spillage issues. It's what eateries used to do before disposable lids were available.

HTH!

We returned from WDW last Saturday.
Lol... so glad you could explain what used to happen before disposable lids were invented... I'm sure all are happy to request servers to only fill the cup 1/3 way full, especially when they're spending Disney money/prices on them.

Suggestion for the future: ask the CM to put all drinks on one tray and have it carried by a more adept adult. The younger ones can carry the food easier. Also what was done pre lids.
Suggestion for common sense... provide stinking lids. You know what was done once a brain was used to invent lids, as not having them seemed to be a problem...hence the need for the invention lol. We get it you're anti-lids- congrats....probably means this thread is not for you as it's not an issue; others have different experiences/lives.

It's not a ban; it's Disney pretending to be environmentaly friendly, when in reality it's just PR BS which has the wonderful added bonus of saving them money. You can bring whatever you want; they're just not going to provide it anymore.

Yes... We saw multiple ppl. ask/request them and CMs either said they no longer had them, only had them for kid drinks (they use the same size lid) or pretended like they didn't understand what the person was asking for lol.

Crazy. I was able to find 16 oz cups w lids on Amazon. I'll probably bring those along. I travel with someone with disability. I'll just pour the drink into our cup....unless the lid fits and then we'd be set with the Disney cup.

If you can find "sweetheart" lids, that's the brand they used. - I made sure to take note so I could order some for our upcoming trip. It's just such a pain to try to walk around without one.

I wrote what I did in recognition that many posters have not lived life w/o the convenience of lidded disposable cups and plastic straws. My kids are in their '30's and '40's and the only place they can recall with lidless drinks were Nedick's and Papaya King. Took reaching deep into their memory banks to pull that out, LOL. As I recall it was more like 1/5 of the volume rather than 1/3 for filling cups and many people opted for a cup w/o ice since the drinks were fountain cold already. Then Big Gulps and similar came into being and people stopped caring how much product was in their cups since it was more than enough anyway.

As for common sense plastic cups replaced glass bottles and cans with removable flip tabs and were considered a "wonder cure" for the times. No more broken glass and can tops on beaches to rip up your feet or other body parts. Nobody thought about a future of plastics that don't disintegrate with ease, kill off our marine food supply and create floating islands of pollutions. Guess common sense changes with the world's needs and we need to change with it:).

Anti lid? Not at all. When they use their brains again and invent a degradable lid I'll be there. Until then I'll think on how to get around being an "it's all about me" person.

I saw most kids drinks had lids in our June trip. We brought our own straws (stainless from Amazon). A couple of times we used the paper ones. They were definitely better than the paper ones restaurants provide locally. The boba straw that was paper that we got in a beverage was really really good. It didn’t dissolve at all. I was surprised that the absence of lids wasn’t a problem for us. I thought it might be. We did stay in the quick service restaurants until our drinks were gone unless we had water though.

This seems like the best solution. If you're aware that something you might need won't be available ahead of time, and you have storage available, bring your own. On my last visit, I usually had my hotel refillable with me in the parks because I liked to take it full of caffeinated beverage on the bus when I left for the parks. Rather than navigate with an open cup, you could pour into something like this. I also had a water bottle with a filter for filling at water fountains. One or both of these can be options to avoid lid-less cups at a QS.

I'm all for helping reduce waste. That being said, a recycle bin next to garbage cans would help. Now I understand not everyone cares and would throw garbage in recycle and recycle in garbage. But I see myself getting a drink on a hot afternoon and walking in crowds with it open. One bump into another person and 2 people are wearing a drink, and I am out $$. I do not know how large or cumbersome the refillable mugs are from the resorts, but I see myself bringing them and dumping the drink into those...if I get the dining plan. If I don't get it, then bringing my Dollywood cups. That should go over well. 👿
the stand I work at a small park had to take out our recycle bins because most of it had to go in garbage any way because when garbage is mixed in it becomes garbage

Did you try the lids? I wouldn't be surprized if disney has cups that are a 16th inch too fat for standard lids. I'd be more than happy to bring some lids and straws into the park. We are very much they type to get a meal and soda and carry the drink for another half hour.

At this point I have some tall cups with lids and the take and toss kids cups (the ones with straws), they will nest somewhat. Are the rules still that you can't take ANY TYPE of straw into AK?
