We are working on the beginning plans of of Disney trip and I have 10 people attending. 2 are handicapped out of the 10 and 3 out of the remaining 8 would rather camp then stay (and pay) for an on site room. We have the option to use our timeshare off site but really want to use the dining plan. Is there anywhere in Disney policy that renting a tent site and declaring 10 people will be there and at most only 3 will actually sleep there - and us paying for the tickets and dining plan but sleeping elsewhere.
The way I see it - 7 out of 10 aren't using the facilities at the campgrounds BUT are paying for the dining plan... I guess I am just looking for why this won't work or why it shouldn't be done.

Thanks in advance

This is a touchy subject around here.
I say, in this case since the site is not being wasted, do what you need to do.

According to everything I have read, you can do what you're talking about. Campsites are allowed to have up to 10 registered guests, so you won't need 2 sites for 3 "real" campers. If you had a party of 12 and were going to waste a campsite, that would be a different story. You will have to pay $2 per registered guest beyond the first two - that is, $18 per day, which seems a reasonable amount to get your 7 off-site guests registered with all resort privileges. It might be good to have the whole gang with you upon check-in (not sure) but beyond that no one is going to care or notice where these registered guests lay their heads. And your neighbors will be relieved that only 3 are staying!

This is what I was concerned about - I definitely wouldn't want to waste a site for a family that could use it - hence why I felt this was "kinda" middle line since 3 would be staying and technically no neighbors would even know that 7 more were "registered"

Not exactly the same, but pretty close scenario - when we were DVC members we stayed in a 1 bedroom at OKW and my parents were at the Fort in their RV, using their FL resident passes so they didn't need a package. Since my DS was 2 at the time we were able to register as 5 staying in the villa and purchase the dining plan for all of us. I checked in without my parents since they were driving up from Ft. Myers and didn't get there at the same time as our flight. No problem - they just issued their KTTW cards to me to give to them when they got there. The only issue we had was them having to keep track of two KTTW cards for the trip, but that wasn't that big of a deal.

I vote that since the site will be used and not just sit empty, then go for it.

You can do it no problem and as long a people are staying on the site it wouldn't be an issue for me. Enjoy:
