We are headed to VWL in just a few weeks :) but already I'm planning our next DVC trip! ;)

I am wondering about HH and have some questions for those of you who own there/ go there.

(1)How is it for kids? (Ours are 7,6 and 2)

(2)I am considering the week of Thanksgiving -- crowded?

(3)And is it cold then? Is it (being a beach area in the winter)...dead?

(4)And are pools heated (as at WDW) or are they closed then?

(5)Is there an extra charge for the activities the DVC HH site lists (i.e., marsh tours, wildlife stuff for kids, etc.) and are those good?

(6)How would your kids rate a HH trip to a WDW trip?

THanks -- I'll have more questions I'm sure once I broach subject to dh... when it comes to DVC points, other resorts may as well not exist. He just can't seem to get past the WDW resorts. HH would be half the distance for us, too, for a vacation (kids are bound to appreciate that!) as we would actually gain nearly 2 days vacation normally spent driving!

VWL-Bound in August and already planning ahead to next trip....

My daughter (11 ) loved it there as did my SO's son ( aged 7) haven't been at that time of year but Xmas the resort was at capacity and it didn't feel crowded at all. Weather is always a chancey thing at Xmas we had 4 days in the mid 70s, 4 in low 70 and 3 in high 60s. But it did snow in the Carolina's the day after we ledt. The pools are heated, there are a mix of paid and free tours I found all of the activities excellent. I think they'd rate it as different LOL, IMHO you can't compare one to the other. They're going to have a great time. I would never say, we had the choice of going to WDW or X and we chose X because as you're setting yourself up for critisism/moans ( and that doesn't change if you chose WDW if they are in the mood to moan they'll moan LOL).
My daughter has asked to go back to HH over a WDW holiday next year so I guess that's her vote cast.

My DS7 would chose HH over DW any day. We have not been there other than summer, so I'm not much help with most of your other questions. Our kids are 7 and 2 and both of them loved it there. We rode bikes back and forth to the beach every day. They enjoyed crabbing off the pier. They also liked wearing the rubber boots they have there and walking out in the marsh when the tide was low and catching little crabs. There is a charge for some of the activities. I don't think your kids would be bored there.

Your kids will love HH. We went for the first time this year and my kids (7,6,3) loved it, especially my 6 year old. She asked if we could go to HH every vacation. They'll have 2 pools to choose from (resort and Beach House), they can explore the resort grounds where they'll find horseshoes, shuffleboard, hammocks, playground, etc., and there are scheduled activities that the kids will enjoy. There are some activities that are free and some that are not.

My opinion may be biased, since we chose HH as one of our home resorts, but I don't think you'll regret a HH vacation. The kids will love it. Our DS, age 9, prefers it over WDW.
We just returned from HH on Sunday and had a great time. Lots of activities for the kids, some free and some not.
DS went to the kids' night out on Thursday. Three hours for $20 for members. They had pizza, went to the theater to see Lilo and Stitch, had popcorn and pop. He also did the Unbirthday Party and had a blast. The Pirates of the Calibogue treasure hunt is fun for the whole family too.
I'd recommend going to see any of the 'shows' where B'lou Crabbe is performing. Disney has a real treasure here. Entertaining for the adults, as well as the kids.
Good luck with your decision.

Both of my kids love HH and can't wait to go back. 5yo DD just asked last week when we were going back and seemed a little disappointed that I told her next summer. Of course she perked right up when I said we were going to HH AND WDW!! Both pools are heated, although I'm sure the ocean will be a little too cold in November. There is an extra charge for most activities such as crabbing, kayaking, etc. My kids have enjoyed all of the activites so far. We've not gone in the off season, so I'm not sure about how crowded it would be around Thanksgiving (although I hope to find out some day!)

My DDs 7 and 9 prefer HH to WDW.

The counselors and guards take the time to learn their name. Their programs are simple and a lot of fun.

B'lou Crabbe and the rest of the staff are awesome!

I showed DH all the glowing reports about HH... I *think* we may have twisted his arm! He does love the beach... and the reports about kid's activities seems to sway him...

Now the BIG problem... waiting until we can book and go!!! ;)

THanks for the feedback!

Cindy
