Curious about Fencing and sharing it between yards *update with pic of painted fence*

I agree that it appears to be a sticky situation. Well it could turn into a sticky situation. DH and I are just not the type to cause conflict. We're easy going and not much can bother us. It's not going to harm us in any way that the fence is a different color. I hope the neighbor is happy with it. She's a very nice lady. She lives alone and I think she had her grandson over helping her paint the fence and work in the yard all weekend.

I believe the fence is right on the property line.

Didn't we have a thread here before about "weird neighbors" or "the weird things they do" .. LOL

how strange. I can understand her wanting to protect her fence, but she is never going to see your side. Since its already done, you have a few options. You could put a piece of fence up in front of it to match your other fence, you could paint over it and paint your other fence as well, you could paint the rest of your fence to match hers, or you could live with a multi-colored fence. :flower:

It also looks like she got some of her paint on "your" fence. At the top right of your wood.

Maybe I am not easy going, but I would have a VERY big problem with what just happened. It doesn't look very, um, nice. And you just built :sad2: That is a ton of money that you just spent to have a nice house. This would really, really bother me.

I know you want to be a nice neighbor, but don't you think she crossed a line? You have to look at your backyard everyday.

Sorry, I think she was rude to do that. Or maybe she just has really bad taste?

Looks like the color the wood will be in a year anyway! :rotfl: She might just be protecting her fence with the paint from rot. It's wood, it will rot, paint will help protect it. And she paid for that fence. I think she is within her rights. Bad color, but it's her fence!

If the fence was put up as it should be according to the law it should be placed one foot behind her property line. That means that you have one ft of her property in your yard. She can stand on that one foot and paint it sky blue pink if she wants to and it is just tough for you. If it is on the line then that is a different story. Most reliable people will NOt put a fence right on the line just for this reason. As someone said if you do not like it you can put up your own fence to offset in on your line. The line in the middle is no man's land.

I painted my fence Colonial blue because it matched the siding on my house.

I had a neighbor that put up a fence moving the property stakes I had put in because they never wanted to cut the grass coming up the hillside. They also put up the fence so the finished side faced them and I got to look at the ugly side of the fence.

We sold the house to a real nasty person. I wonder how she and the neighbors are getting along.

How about putting some trellis on it and planting some vines?

hmmm I say paint a Disney Mural on it.... :rotfl2:

Seriously - I'd wait until your husband got home so y'all can decide together how to handle it...

I like the trellis and plant idea personally - Especially if you keep the trellis/lattice natural and stain it to match the rest of your fence... the blue/grey behind it would just give it depth...

hahahaha :rotfl: Disney Mural sounds great!!!!!!!

Yep, I think I'll wait til DH gets home and let him decide. :teeth: I like the trellis and plant idea too! We want to get a shed too so maybe the shed will cover up most of it.

Hmm, I tried that.

Put up some trellis planted some ivy, made sure it wound itself neatly around the fence and not sticking out all over.

The neighbour went along and cut the vines off on his side of the fence :confused3 . Well since the vines were wound around the fence you know what happened to the part of my side of the fence. Yup, it all died.

This fence has alternating boards so it looks the same on both sides.

It was his fence though, so I didn't say anything just shook my head and pulled out the vines at the roots.

Sometimes I feel like putting up a 20 ft high fence :rotfl:

I can't believe he cut up the vines!!!! :sad2: Some people!

Wow - glad we have nice neighbors. Both of us built new and moved in several months apart from each other. We put our fences up with the same company on the same day. We both stained our fences the same color on the same day. It's great to have nice neighbors.

.... But I couldn't of said "NO" I just wanted to be nice and not start any trouble. She paid for that side so legally isn't it hers to do with what she wants?.....

Sorry, but being nice might cost you and not just that you are trying to be neighborly, but she may think you are a pushover and may try more stunts or whatever. You may not have wanted to start any trouble, but it may backfire causing you to be in trouble. For example, if and when you try to sell the home and people see that eyesore than it will cost you financially and maybe even become a can of worms down the road.

Find out your rights. Check with your city/county. Do you have a HOA? Check to see what you can and cannot do.

GL!

When we put up our fence years ago we were told we HAD to put the best side facing our neighbors. I guess it is different from town to town. I wonder if paint color would also need to be considered in our area...
