I need suggestions or ideas for either fall or football themed cupcakes. I took a basic Wilton class - but I'm not the greatest decorator  so something not too, too complicated would be great. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

put on them "hit a home run" and you coud go wit the "dumb women doesnt know sports" theme

Ok They aren't fall or football themed, but I make mine in icecream cones. I make them for DH at work and you should see all the guys walking around the shop with cupcakes. And the best part is there is no messy cupcake liners to deal with. The guests can just eat and yell at the football game.

Check with your local party supply or craft store for some of those hard, edible sugar/icing decorations. I am sure I have seen footballs, or you could go with chocolate icing with fall colored sprinkles. I took Wilton, too, but I still go for the easy way out!!

Good luck!

Okay--not cupcakes...but...I like to make sugar cookies in the shape of helmets and footballs then use chocolate frosting on the footballs and use food color to make vanilla frosting in the appropriate team color for the helmets.

PS what the heck is a basic Wilton class?

Football theme -

use the 'grass tip' and cover the top of the cupcake with 'grass' icing. use a pipecleaner cut in half to make mini- goal posts, and insert into cupcake. Then place a foil wrapped football at the base of the goalpost. Instant 3-d football cupcakes that aren't hard but look cute!
:D

Fall theme -
using tip 6, make yellow cornstocks to one side of the top of a plain white iced cupcake. Then using tip 8, add an orange pumpkin beside the cornstock. You could vary it by using tip 6 and drawing a section of wood fence, too.

I also use the helmet shaped cookie cutters. Use a THICK butter cookie recipe, and ice the cookies in the teams colors/symbols.

Hey, IMGONNABE40, the Wilton Basic class is the first of a series of cake decorating classes they have through the Wilton system. It is a lot of fun, doesn't take long-once a week for about 6 weeks. (? It was a long time ago!) I took mine through JC Penneys, but any craft store that carries the Wilton supplies probably holds the classes. Like I said, a lot of fun...I just wish that frosting would taste better-it used to gross me out when the instructor would lick her fingers and say, "yum". All the frosting is made of is powdered sugar, shortening, and flavoring...:crazy2: It is easier to work with than buttercream (yum) because it doesn't get soft while working with it....

It does get expensive buying all the equipment, but really with just a few techniques you can add a professional looking touch to your cakes..If you have the time to even bake a cake...Which I don't ....

Thanks so much everyone for the ideas!! Popdaddy - I could probably get away with that one! :)
I had totally forgotten about the ice cream cone method - I just saw that on Paula Deen's show on the Food Network the other day. ::yes:: Do you use a decorating tip to frost them? That would look great and I could use fall sprinkles to put on top. Thanks so much everyone!! :) I think I will end up using all of these by the time football season is over!
By the way the Wilton Class really is a great way to learn to decorate cakes. I took mine through Michaels- but I have to admit even knowing how to do it sometime the thought of spending hours on a Saturday trying to make the perfect cake doesn't sound like fun at all and I look for the easy way out. I also have to agree with hrh_disney_queen it can get really expensive after a while buying supplies.

There are times I use the pastry bag with a large tip so the frosting looks like icecream and other times I just use a knife and lots of sprinkles ( gottta have sprinkles). Good luck in whatever you end up making.

The brownies looked delicious.

Check the Family Fun magazine website. They have awesome cupcake ideas. Every year I make Beach theme cupcakes with an umbrella, sand, beach chair, beach ball. The kids love them, but what a pain to decorate! Cute cupcakes are my thing I'm known for at the kid's school.

I love to bake, but I have no artistic talent whatsoever, so this is all beyond me. I simply buy the cupcake liners with different designs on them, and use sprinkles. The people I work with are in awe of my cake mix/canned frosting cupcakes/cakes that I bake for everyone's birthdays. None of them bake at all. But I feel like I'm cheating--I used to make EVERYTHING from scratch.
