I was just reading a review of AKL on Allearsnet and someone took a culinary tour at the AKL. It was of Boma and Jiko and he said they got to sample lots of different foods and even decorate cookies!

Does anyone have more specific info about this? Age restrictions? Cost? Do you have to be a resort guest at AKL? Tell all! This sort of thing is SO me!

Hello! I did the tour this past November. It was very informative. It was free, and it seemed to be open to anyone...you just meet at the podium at Jiko and they start the tour...they don't ask to see room keys or anything. I believe it started at 4 pm and I believe it lasted about 30 minutes. Sorry I cannot remember exactly. We walked around Jiko and then sat at the open kitchen area (not really the kitchen, but where they make the flatbreads) and we got to sample some apps. We all shared, so it is not enough to fill you up or anything. Then we walked the few steps to Boma where the chef went over all the items and we got to taste stuff there. I was soooo excited, because we were eating at Boma later that night. I had eaten at Jiko on a previous trip and knew that it was outstanding. Boma did not disappoint. They have food there that I never see anywhere else. That is one of the main reasons I love to eat there, because I cannot find too many "African" restaurants around. It truly is different.

The cookie decorating is a separate thing...i think it is offered daily at 1 pm for kids...in the Boma dining room (Boma is not open for lunch.) I did not get a chance for my DD to experience this, but I am sure it is fun!

HTH...have a good time! :wave2:

Hey WLL I just wanted to say that I am also in Weston Florida and I have never seen that location on the boards yet :wave2:

Wow,
that must be similar to the one they used to have at WL.

Must see if that tour is open to anymore... :)

Thanks for the info. Love this board.

cseca-Wow, they used to have one at the WL? I would have loved to go on that tour! Wish they still had it!

Yep, they used to have one at WL... :teeth:
They would walk you through Roaring Forks, WC, The Smokehouse in the back of the resort (which was really cool!!!!), Artist Point and they give you sample of the Cedar Plank Salmon... sigh...
It was awesome... I wished they hadn't discontinued it...
You would've loved it... :cloud9:

ghost-I am not too sure if ANY other resorts do this. I wish they would, though. I would even pay money for a really in depth tour of, say....V&A's! That would be so interesting!

cseca-Maybe they will bring that back...wonder why it was discontinued? Sounds like a blast! I always love finding interesting things to do around the resort. Especially FOOD RELATED!
