I am getting married late June.

We are considering using cubic zirconia stones rather than diamonds.

Anyone have experience with this and woould it be considered "sappy"?

I think whatever you want to do is great. It's not about the cost.

Someone had a thread earlier about Diamondeque (sp) diamonds. Maybe check them out? They are apparently very realistic looking for a fraction of the cost!

Why would it be sappy? Or are you worried people will judge you because you aren't wearing real diamonds? I'm of the opinion that anyone who would even consider judging another person for something so ridiculous deserves to be beaten to death by with a wet fish.

If you and your DF are happy with the ring, then that's all that matters. It's a symbol of your love, not a symbol of your wealth.

Maybe not cubic zirconia, but there are lab manufactured diamonds. Pretty much the same as a real one only lab created. So real that in fact the head of Debeers threatened the life of the family of the man that learned how to make jewelry quality diamond in the lab. It was on an Investigative report on A & E.

I refuse to buy real diamonds now. They aren't worth anything really. There are tons of them but DeBeers only allows so many to be bought and sold so they can regulate prices. It is a very dirty business and one that I really wouldn't be a part of.

These lab diamonds look fantastic. I would suggest looking into them, They are a lot cheaper to buy.

Are these Dimondeque like aarcher is talking about? I haven't heard of these before.

OP, buy what you want. No one is going to know if is is real or not unless you bring it to a jeweler. Honestly, I don't know if it is worth the hassle of real diamonds anyway. It is extra money for insurance and if they are lost increases to your insurance rates, etc.

To me, it depends upon why you want cubic zirconia. If you've seen cubic zirconia stones, love they way they look, and want that as a wedding stone, go for it.

But if you are getting cubic zirconia because you want something that looks like a diamond, but is cheaper, I personally wouldn't do it.

Seriously if I had known that my diamond engagement ring would be worth next to nothing, there is no way that I'd have let DH spend the bucks he did. He surprised me with it, but I kind of hinted around at what I liked. I would have told him to go with diamonique if I had known that my ring would have depreciated 90% after he walked out the door. Now, I love, love my ring. But I bet I could have loved, loved a diamonique ring too. There are many beautiful ones out there.

Who cares? Only you and your fiance will know your ring isn't real.

If it's a price thing what about a different stone? I personally can't stand diamonds and never want one. But there are some really lovely semi-precious stones out there that don't cost and arm and a leg (literally when it comes to diamonds)

You could do a different stone, too. In the "olden days" this was not uncommon. My "wedding" ring is a ruby with tiny diamonds accenting it. Wasn't expensive, but I love it. (PS We put a downpayment on our first house with the $$ we saved!)

Do what YOU want, don't worry about popular opinion....

My Dmom lost the diamond in her engagement ring. She was devestated. She found a diamonique ring on QVC that looked close to her ring and bought it. After that, she was hooked and refused to ever buy the real thing again. She was complimented all the time on her ring and no one knew it wasn't real.

Hey don't feel bad, I am in the same boat. This info came out years after I got my diamond. YOu love it, I love mine. But when I got a 3 stone anniversary ring, it is a lab created one and I get tons of compliments on it. I mean people gush over it. I never have to say that it isn't a real diamond because it is, just wasn't created by nature.

First of all, congratulations! :goodvibes

Second of all, I think you should do whatever you want to do - without giving others a second thought.. It's your ring - your choice..:)

Personally I don't care for diamonds at all - and when DD became engaged to her DH, she specifically asked for a sapphire instead.. It did end up having some smallish diamonds around it, but the sapphire was definitely the more prominent stone.. Beautiful ring! :thumbsup2

Here's another vote for Diamonique. I have several Diamonique rings and you cannot believe the number of compliments I get. And they don't cost very much.

I know lots of people who've bought opals, sapphires and cubic ziconia instead of diamonds. I don't wear a jeweled ring at all. Make your own choice and feel good about it.

I think you should get what you want.

Personally, if I were in the market now, I'd get estate diamonds or buy one from someone looking to resell. Personally, I like CZ for some things. I have some CZ earrings I really like. But I wear my engagement ring every day, and I never take it off. I've had CZ rings, and the stones don't hold up to the every day wear and tear I give them. They chip around the edges.

I have a fair amount of 14K gold jewelry bought when gold was only $35 an ounce. So people are used to me having some nice jewelry.

I bought a CZ enhancer in a believable size that I wear on some pearls. They are real pearls of a very fine quality. I have had so many people comment on my "diamond". Even have had people tell me that I should not wear such an expensive stone around my neck.

Main question is does it make you happy to look at it? You are the only one you need to please.
