Going on the Magic Western route Aug. 30th and was looking for advice for a quality place to buy Cubans. Any help?? Found some nice cigars on St Marteen in MArigot on the Eastern route looking for help on this trip. Thanks in advance!

I asked this earlier, and was told

Yes, I picked up a box of Cubans in Grand Cayman, (0f course I smoked them all on the ship ) Wallace and Valerio of the La Casa Del Habano there are top notch. I would not buy anywhere else on the Western. You will only get duty free prices on boxes, and you can ONLY be assured of getting the real thing at a La Casa Del Habano, conuterfiets are the order of the day in the carib, its as high as 90%, there is one in Cozumel but these 2 people in GC are reknowned in the cigar world. Where I bought my rum they walked it down to the pier with me.

Swede63 -
Where did you find them on the Eastern? My DH is very interested. Thanks.

In St Maarten I took a cab ride to Marigot and went to a shop there that I had read about in a magazine. I can't remember the exact name but it was on the main st in Marigot. Any cab driver should know where it is, it wasn't the Davidoff shop but another one. They had a locked door and you had to be buzzed in. I bought some Cohiba cigars that were fantastic.

I am just wondering how much a good Cuban cigar would cost?

What are the names or bands xone would look for to purchase good Cuban cigar? I have seen Cohiba mentioned several times, are there others to look for?

Thanks

Just FYI.

Cuban Cigar Update

The revival of interest in cigars and cigar smoking underscores the need to remind the public of the prohibitions that have been in place for many years with respect to cigars of Cuban origin. The number of attempted importations of Cuban cigars into the United States is rising and because dealing in such cigars may lead to Treasury enforcement actions, the public should be aware of - and make every effort to observe - the prohibitions which are in effect.

Only persons returning from Cuba after a licensed visit there are permitted to bring Cuban cigars into the United States, provided the value of such cigars does not exceed $100 US dollars and the cigars are for that individual's personal use and not for resale. All other importations of Cuban cigars are illegal. All offers to buy or sell such cigars in the United States involve cigars that were imported illegally. Contrary to what many people may believe, it is illegal for travelers to bring into the United States Cuban cigars acquired in third countries (such as Canada, England, or Mexico

Wow.....I misread your post and thought you were coming off so legal sounding. My Bad.

However, The subject of Cubans being for consumption while on the vacation has been well covered throughout the DIS board.

Mojomommy - Ummm. Maybe you need to relax ... I think that perhaps you misread my post. Perhaps you should read it again and then explain how I beat people up?????

Personally I could care less. I just figured people might want to know in case customs takes their prizes.
