Talk to me about Ganim. I went to law school with one of the Ganim brothers (I think his name was Mike). Which one was mayor and how did he fall from grace?

"In Bridgeport, Connecticut (the state's largest city) Mayor Joseph Ganim, a Democratic hopeful for governor, was indicted in early November for federal bribery, extortion, mail fraud and racketeering. "Investment quality wine" was one item Ganim supposedly received in return for his favors. Such as the 1997 awarding of a $91 million dollar waste water treatment contract to Worth Construction, whose president was being investigated in New Jersey for alleged mob ties. Also under scrutiny is a plan to extend the city's sewer lines to the nabe containing Mayor Ganim's new home"
Joseph Ganim was mayor of Bridgeport......caught in corruption scandal (don't know all the details) .....serving 9(?) years in prison in NJ somewhere I think.....

Ganim accepted money, improvements to his home, etc. for gov't contracts.
I know a lot of people from Bridgeport. They were really upset over his conviction. He really did a LOT of good for Bridgeport, getting rid of the "bad" public housing, new Arena, etc. He was a very "public" man and very in touch with his people.
Originally posted by Kimberle I was called to jury duty for Giordano's trial. I couldn't go that day, too busy at work. Just think of the "stories" I could have shared if I went!!
really - what jury wouldn't convict him...you know? thought he was a scum bag (pardon my french) the minute i moved into waterbury. Thank god I'm out of that city now.
