I know it will be a mixed bag of personal opinions as to who prefers what, but I am torn between CSR and POFQ.

If you've stayed at either resort please tell me what you liked and what you disliked about the resort.

If it makes a difference, I have a 9 and 6 yr old and my father may join us for a few days, he's 62.

Thanks for all the info!

CSR is a *lot* of walking to the food court (Peppers) and I wasn't hugely impressed with it (the food court). But it was very nice and there were plenty of bus stops and swimming pools. CSR is also closer to Animal Kingdom and the Studios, whereas POFQ is closer to Epcot and Downtown Disney (they're about the same distance to the MK).

CSR was my last choice for this vacation (POFQ was first) only because I live in New Mexico now so I wanted something that *didn't* feel like home. I've never stayed at PO before, though, only CSR and CBR.

I'd say, stay at CSR if your big goal is to get into the parks faster (I'm guessing your DS is more interested in AK/Studios than Epcot/DTD), but stay at POFQ if any of you have mobility issues.

Yes, a mixed bag is what you will get. :rotfl:

We've only stayed at the CSR (but POFQ would be the other moderate we would choose if ours were not available).

You indicate your father may join you. Does he have problems walking? If so, the CSR may be too spread out for him (the POFQ is much smaller and compact). We, however, like that it is spread out as it never feels crowded and it is peaceful and serene. It was always our kids favorite resort.

The pool has a great slide (123 feet long) and three quiet pools; a great playground, arcade, sand volleyball court and, of course, the largest hot tub of all the mods. We love it for the queen beds (the only moderate to have them, although we've not tried them yet...they were bringing them in while we were there in September), the food court (although expensive unless you are on the dining plan; but they now have the take and go--Cafe Rix which has lots of goodies, etc.), the grounds, the new decor of the rooms and the sliding door between the bathroom/bedroom, full menu for room service, etc.

I've stayed at POR twice, and visited POFQ during those stays, and CSR once. I love both resorts for different reasons. At the PO resorts I love the boat to DTD and they have a very family oriented feel to them. While I loved our visit to CSR our group was 3 adults and not a family with children. IMO CSR doesn't have a family feel to it. I believe this resort is geared to adults or families with older teens. I think CSR has the better food court and is the only resort where we never had to stand on a bus as there was always plenty of room.

We LOVE French Quarter. Have stayed there several times! That being said, we have never stayed at CSR......why? We are from the southwest and find no appeal in staying at a resort that looks like home!

We've stayed at both on previous trips. We took my parents with us to POFQ in '06 and are taking them to CSR this summer. Here are my thoughts.

POFQ has a good food court, good pool and slide and is fairly small and feels super easy to get around - never feel like you're hiking anywhere. The New Orleans theme is very comfortable. There's also a musician (Eliot Dyson?) who plays in the lobby area several nights a week that is fun. Downside is there isn't a table service restaurant (may or may not be a big deal), the shared buses can get pretty full and the return station (parks to hotel) is near the end of the line.

CSR has queen beds in all the rooms, a great pool (including quiet pools) including fantastic water slide, a playground, a fitness room, a place to get a massage, a small marina, and three food options (four if you count Siesta's at the pool for snacks). The lake is super relaxing and there are places to sit and relax or lay in a hammock nearby. There is also Club Rix for evening entertainment, but we've never been. Bus service is very good both coming and going to the parks and there is no sharing with other resorts. Downside (to me) is that most food choices are so-so and it is spread out so depending on where your room is you may have a significant walk back to the main building. There are four bus stops, so you shouldn't ever be far from there.

They are both very nice resorts. I'm hoping for the best with our room assignments for this summer - couldn't turn down the queen beds.

I am leaning toward CSR because of the pool and the queen beds. The kids would love the pool and I would love the queen beds. :rotfl:

I am worried about not getting the queen beds, because not all of the rooms have been renovated. My #1 reason for staying there are the queen beds. The only downside is the size of the resort and the food court, from what I hear. Many people love POFQ for it's small size and boat to DTD. Aughhhh......

My Dad will only be with us for 2 days and that's another reason for staying at POFQ (smaller size).

We have stayed at both. We would go back to POFQ, but would not go back to CSR.

What we liked and disliked~

POFQ - Likes ~Family friendly, pretty resort, all locations are convenient, nice CM's, nice pool & slide, quiet atmosphere. Dislikes ~A little too small for us, small food court.

CSR - Likes ~Pretty & spacious resort, nice pool & slide. Dislikes ~Not as family friendly as the rest of the moderates, poor housekeeping, rude CM's, and the Pepper Market food court.

Good luck with your decision and have a great trip! :goodvibes

Thanks for all of your input!!!!! I really appreciate it. :)

I guess I'll just have to plan 2 trips! One at CSR and one at POFQ. :rotfl2: However, I don't think my husband will approve of that. Drats! :sad2:

All of the rooms that are getting queen beds have them. The only rooms that don't have them are the 100 rooms getting the new king beds.

If size is important, I would really go with POFQ...it is a charming resort. You will gets pros and cons, likes and dislikes, complaint and praise (about CM's, food, mousekeeping) at every resort--it isn't restricted to just one resort.

CSR for us. I have not stayed at POFQ but was considering it for this trip and hubby and the kids vetoed it.
It was nothing against POFQ but rather they had such a good time at CSR they saw no need to stay anywhere else.
I had absolutely no feeling that it was less family friendly.. there were kids in the pools and at the restaurants. My kids were 11 and 4 and both used the playground and arcade as well. I never felt out of place.
2 drawbacks I would see for you would be the size if anyone has any mobility issues and yes the Pepper Market is expensive for counter service from what I remember.. but an excellent value on the dining plan.
As KatMark says there are likes and dislikes involved in anyones vacation planning so it really comes down to your individual choices.
For us buses were a large factor as we don't rent a car. I can only recall one wait over 15 minutes for a bus to DHS one day. We never had to stand and usually waited less than 5 minutes. That was priceless to us.
Good luck with you choices!:)

Well this probably won't help you too much, but we have stayed at both and loved both of them. This last time we went the original plan was to stay at POFQ again, but with a pin code we had to change resorts and chose CSR. We were not disappointed when we arrived. I agree with all of the other post, POFQ is beautiful and easy to get around. CSR is really big but I think it is managable if you can figure out what your needs will be when you are there. If you are going to use the Pepper Market alot try getting a room closer to that, if the pool is a big draw for you then maybe stay closer to the pool. We really enjoyed the Pepper Market but we were on the dining plan, I would imagine that the Pepper Market is a little more expensive than most food courts.. To me you will be happy with either one. Next time we go we will go to CSR again bacause DH and the kids really enjoyed the Pepper Market for a cs credit. Just my thoughts. You will love either one. Have a great time.

It might be easier of you priorize your needs and wants and then choose because they are quite different. We are returning to CSR this summer partly because of the new rooms and queen beds but mostly for the pool area. The pool and slide are huge and we spend a fair amount of time at the pool. The food court at CSR is one of the best as far as selection and if you are on the dining plan it is very good value. We were in the Cabanas section and it was a short walk to everything. POFQ has the boat to DTD which is really nice but the bus service at CSR is great.

I think you should choose CSR for these reasons:

  1. recently refurbished rooms
  2. queen size beds
  3. much better pool for 6 and 9 year olds--POFQ's pool appears to be more pleasing to younger children

If you do choose CSR, then I also would make a choice between the restaurants and the pool and ask to be close to one or the other. It's always nice to be close to something that you will enjoy.

Okay. I think I've decided.

CSR!!!!!

After weighing what matters to us most: queen beds, pool, bus service, I think it is an obvious choice. I also love the theme more than POFQ. We don't use the hotel food court but maybe a couple of times a trip. The size may be too large but what in Disney is small. NOT MUCH! :rotfl:

I'm off to look at the resort photo thread, AGAIN! :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone!

2 years ago we stayed at CSR the first night of our 8 day trip. Our plane arrived at 11:00 pm and AML didn't have room for is that night. When we got to hotel (at 12:30am) we had to walk to our room with 3 suitcased, 2 kids in stroller and 3 carry on bags which was close to a mile away from check in. When we got up in the morning I walked with the kids to get breakfast, thankgoodness there was a very friendly CM who helped me carry the food tray to pick out what we wanted and packed them up so I could carry everything back almost a mile. Needless to say I was very happy when we got to AKL where everything was in 1 building.
