CSR or Cabins? Please Help!!!

I got an great deal on the cabins and booked it for 6/13-20th. Then I started having doubts about the whole camping feel of the the resort. I also heard the transportation is not so good at the cabins. When I go to WDW I think of being "in" Disney. I got an offer for $600 cheaper than the cabins at CSR for the 9th -16th. Should I go for it if it is still available when I call back and if it isn't should I look to change dates to get the feeling I want? Or do you think the cabins will be Disney enough for me. The travel party is myself,my DH, my DD 10 and my DS 2.
Please help me decide.

CSR is a room - double beds.

FW cabins is a cabin - double bed, bunk beds, murphy beds, plus a full kitchen - plus the outside porch and BBQ.

I would want the extra room that a cabin has.

we stayed once and I enjoyed it. fun bunch of people!

I would stay at the cabins if I really needed the space but I would rent a car and use it

I've stayed at both and though I liked the cabins (something different), I like CSR much more. Better transportation, pool, location and food.

That said, the cabins have some fun things too. The movies with Chip and Dale, the Trail Buffet, the Hoop Dee Doo Review and the boat ride to MK. When we were there, the buses shared with WL too.

Saving $600 is alot of money so that would have to be a decision your comfortable with.

I didn't - but you need to read and understand the schedule.

if you want to go to the MK and take the bus that drops you off at the depost - Epcot. well you can get mad.

just study the routes so you get to the right place.

It was confusing at first but then we got the hang of it. They had internal buses and external buses going in different directions. Try for a cabin close to the main store and pool otherwise you have to take the buses to get around or rent a golf cart. Check out this site for info.

I love Fort Wilderness!!!!! It is pretty easy to get around once you understand the buses, and I love to just walk there (plus they have movies and the wagon ride, etc. too)

We stayed at FW cabins last year for our first ever visit to WDW. We all loved them. It was very peaceful. If we book FW for this year, we are definitely reserving a golf cart so that we can explore the whole resort.

The internal buses were confusing at first, but after a day you get used to them. We were lucky that we were in walking distance to the external buses for Epcot and AK. To get to MGM or MK we had to take the internal bus to the marina. The transporation to MK is by boat and to MGM by bus. The one downfall was that the transportation was shared with WL and they were picked up first so the seating at times was limited.

I just called WDW and they said their system is down and they can't find out if the offer is still available. I do have airfare to Orlando that I wouldn't be using if we switch to CSR /we would be driving on those dates. I guess we could drive for the 13th to the cabins also....... then we would have our own car and I would not be so concerned about getting around. .

Got airfare for 13th-20 so called to book room only for the 13th and was offered cabins for $100 more including dining and park hoppers. Took it but now am wanting to have a Disney feel and need to change again I think.

If you are getting the dining and hoppers included, I would stick with the cabins and drive.

I have had both WL and FW cabins quoted and the cabins have always been cheaper. If you are getting WL for less than the cabins, I think I would go with WL.

no WL was not cheaper. There was no availabilty to extend the package from beginning the 13th instead of the 14th so I was having to book a room only ressie at the only available resort (AKL) for $315 for just the one night, no dining or park ticket involved but the CM found the cabins for less than adding the AKL ressie to my already booked WL ressie and the cabin included the tickets and the dining for the extra night. I'm sorry if I'm not explaining myself well..... probably the reason I am so confused. Thanks for responding

Well I have succeeded in confusing you all as much as I am.....

I started with CSR for July1-7th..... $2200. for 2 adults and a 10yr and 2yr old park hoppers and dining included.

I called back to ask about a date change and was offered WL for $2800 but for the 6/14-20th( one less night ) but the dates seemed to fit the airfare deal that I found so I jumped on it.

Then I found out that the flight wouldn't get me in until 10pm on the 14th and realized I was shorting our trip and spending way more....

Found out I could come in on the 13th and called to book a room only ressie (WL was not available to add a night onto my package) so that we could spend the entire day there on the 14th.... the only available room was at AKL for $315 so I took it and that brought my total to $3115 or so for the 7 nights with only 6 of them with dining and park tickets.

Then the CM said she could book the cabins for $2990 with everything included, hence the $100 less than the WL package with the added room only at AKL ....... and we would not have to switch resorts.

The CM talked up the cabins and I took it. I came home and read about the cabins here and got scared about the transportation issue and the lack of the WDW feeling. I have stayed at POR and ASMu and AKL and all make you feel like you are at WDW the entire time. I love that......



I wonder if the cabins make you feel like you are anywhere but WDW.. I live in Texas and there are cabins everywhere around me. If I wanted to book a wilderness experience I could do so very close to home.

But if the cabins still have the "I'm in WDW !!!" to them I will be fine.
My kids and my DH will love the cabins or anywhere we are...... mainly this is about what I expect from a WDW trip.


I am insane I just feel this trip is too important for us to not get it right. Thank you all for your interest and opinions

We were in the cabin a few weeks ago and they're great. Having dining you can get stuff for breakfast and be all set. They are really spacious and it's nice having two TV's and a VCR/DVD player as well. The transportation is not bad at all. You take Purple Settlement or Purple Outpost depending on where you want to go. Sometimes you have to take two, but you can avoid that by using your car mostly. And it's not really that bad. It was nice having our car right outside our room.

Fort Wilderness has the Hoop De Doo, Chip and Dale sing-a-long movie every night, you can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom at the beach and then the Electric Light Parade as well. It's a very relaxing place and people are really nice.

Our cabin was very clean and they even do the dishes for you. We loved it.

I'm pretty we were not allowed to drive and park the car where the buses were. You can rent a golf cart and drive that to the bus pickups.

We had a rental car and used it to go to all parks except Magic Kingdom. For Magic Kingdom, just take Settlement purple to the Settlement and walk to boat dock and take boat to MK. I will say that the boat does not start going until 1/2 hour before park opening. If you want to get there earlier, drive to TTC, or take boat to WL and take bus from there or take boat to Contemporary and walk from there. But we got the first bus out and we were at the Magic Kingdom 15 minutes before opening so we saw the opening ceremony.

After the cabin we moved over to the Beach Club. and we've stayed at Movies and CBR before. We LOVED the Beach Club and we LOVED the Cabins. I didn't feel like we didn't have the Disney feeling while at the cabins, but you do somehow seem to RELAX while there. It's very peaceful, easy to nap the kids, pace seems slower and everyone waves and says hello to each other. Seeing armadillo's walking around is neat and they have pony rides, fishing, you can rent boats and bikes, walk to Wilderness Lodge and have dinner at WCC, Watching the fireworks from the beach was great and also the water parade comes by soon after. Campfire sing along with Chip and Dale is really cute and fun as well. It's just different, but in a good way.

Oh the bus stops are not that far away. We requested and got loop 2100, right in the middle of things, perfect location.
