Do they land jobs?

I know so many people who use this saying, and therefore don't take school seriously.
They would rather drink and skip than excel.

I can't lie, there are classes that are struggles, and I've gotten a C or 2, but there are just some classes that are impossible to no do well....like a dance class where all you do is show up and attempt!

I figure if anything, at least I know I did my best, and I learned disciple.

It's possible to drink and still do well in school. I did both.

Employers don't ask for transcripts. :confused3

Although, if you are in a field that requires letters of recommendations, better grades would help, I think.

Since when?

My kid just graduated engineering school. Plenty of companies requested transcripts for newly minted engineers. They want the best of the best and that means looking at classes taken/GPA. For instance, if you are a chemical engineer, they certainly don't want to see a C in O Chem.

They don't want C's in the core classes.

My apprenticeship asked for transcripts to look at the classes and check them off the list. C or better and you get the credit. An better GPA doesn't put you any higher on the list.

And I have to go to school and work and my company doesn't care about your grades as long as you pass.

My sons are State Troopers in two different states, and both states required transcripts.

I am in software engineering and they didn't care about my transcript.

Investment banking -- everyone looked at transcripts and only students with 4.0 or close to received offers. Unless you had close to a perfect GPA you wouldn't even get a chance with a recruiter.

My daughter just got a full presidential scholarship to University of Alabama for chemical engineering and she better not do that. She graduated with HS with a 4.3 gpa and with 40 hours of college credit. Also approved to do the STEM mba program to get her masters during the same time. She would be in so much trouble for not doing her "job"- earning good grades!! Mediocrity is not what this country needs. Work hard!!! Don't sell yourself short.

DH is a CPA for a large oil company. He hires people. Recent college grads do have to submit transcrips and are not interviwed with under a 3.5. They also look specifically at the grades for thr Accounting classes.

Same here. Once I got into college and wasn't chained to my desk, I found I did a lot better, as well. I attended when I felt it necessary, got my work done and maintained an overall B average, with an A average in journalism school.

As a journalist, I can say this is definitely true. No one has ever inquired about my grades. In my field, internships and recommendations speak way louder than any grade.

But us journalists are weird. So we kind of understand each other. I've seen college peers that barely scraped by go on to do some amazing things in the field.

Awesome!!! Glad to hear my daughter won't be "overachieving" for nothing. LOL we expect good grades- whether she had a scholarship or not. :)

For every class I really struggled in (math and economics, I'm looking at you) I made weekly appointments with the professors to get extra help. Even though I continued to struggle on exams, they were both willing to bump me up from a C- to a B+. I worked my butt off in both classes but truly didn't understand the material, so I was happy with high Bs.

And yes, for 3 of 4 post grad jobs they said my GPA is what topped me over other applicants. The 4th job (Disney) didn't care about GPA.

I suppose it depends on the field you are going into. My daughter is going into Theatre. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to care if she gets A's or C's.

In her case, I know she has gotten C's but it is classes she struggled with in High School, so basically we were thrilled the grade was a C and not a D or F. LOL! She is at the community college right now & I know when she transfers they will count the class as completed even if she gets a C and if she finishes her Associates there, they will accept all her General Ed. requirements as being completed as long as she passed them...they won't even look at the grade. It's an automatic...she will immediately go into her major classes.

In reading these answers, if you get a C in a class....you my as well not even bother finishing getting your degree because you won't be offered a job in your field anyway.

That's good that you worked extra hard to get those classes' grades higher. I was a math teacher and have my math degree from University of Texas...I understand struggling with classes that you are not interested in or that you find difficult- and some professors can be totally unjust in their grading techniques. For sure.

Becky2005- I agree that it depends on the field you are going into- totally!!

My kids are both math whizzes- and I guess it makes sense with me being a Math teacher (master's in gifted education) and my husband being a CPA- with an MBA in finance. Lol too much love of math in this house. Hahaha.

:thumbsup2 In reality, I don't think my DD even NEEDS a degree for Theatre -- work experience is more important on building that resume. The only good thing it is for is connections AND we found out the 4 year school she is going to counts the Disney College Program for credit! :rotfl:

what I am learning my second time around, is that potential employers WILL google your name, make sure Facebook, etc is clean.

Applications for teaching positions require transcripts as well as letters of recommendations.
