We have an 8:05, will this allow us to eat, the kids see the characters and be done eating by 9:00?

Also, is 8:00 the first seating?

it will be very close. That's what we do and we've gotten done early and we've gotten done a bit later. One time we had to skip Piglit as he just wasn't getting to us. Even still...you're in the park well ahead of 90% of WDW. lol.

8:05 AM is the first seating.

Like the PP said, we usually have to skip the last character to be out before 9am. I also request the check as soon as the server greets us when we first sit down.

I wish I'd thought to do this last summer! We were the very first people seated, and the only thing that was preventing us from getting where we wanted to be by 9 was that our server disappeared. I ended up sending my husband and kids on their way without me while I waited to pay. We did see all the characters.

Love this tip!!

It also helps that even when the kids were younger - we were never Pooh and Friends fans (gasp), so we kinda weren't too upset if the characters didn't all come to the table.

Got my ADR for 8:05 in 25 days.....can't wait to use my new strategy.

CP prior to park opening is our most coveted ADR - its like our very own EMH

We've got our 8:05 ADR in just 22 days - can't wait! Do you think it possible that we can get in a ride (probably BTMRR), grab a FP for Splash, and make it back to the front of the park to check in for our 9:30 KTTK tour?

I think that is asking a bit much, but I'd want to make sure I was there a bit early for KTTK.

I think the best part of having an 8:05 adr is taking the pics of a nearly empty main street.

If the park doesn't open until 9 you definitely won't be able to do that because BTMRR and Splash are at the opposite end of the park from City Hall. If it's an EMH morning and you didn't have the 8:05 breakfast you could do it.

With an 8:05 ADR which is the first of the morning, you will be waiting in line to be seated along with a lot of other people so there's no guarantee you'll be seated at 8:05. If you want to see all the characters, it'll probably take at least an hour so again, you'll probably have just enough time to get back to the KTTK meeting place.
