Anyone having experience cruising with child with a broken arm? My DS(8) broke his arm and it doesn't look like the cast will be off before the cruise.

Are there any problems with having him in the Oceaneers Lab?

Thanks

My daughter broke her arm too! Her doctor is going to change her cast to a water cast before we leave (only 2 weeks to go)

I think the ONLY "problem" you'd have would be not being able to get it in water- excursions, pool on deck 9, etc. (and I don't know for sure but there may be something out there that you can put over it to allow swimming and keep it waterproof. I've only experienced one broken bone situation (ironically my son- boys will be boys I guess! LOL) and just avoided the water parks and pools that summer. Other than that though- shouldn't be any problems at all. I have seen other children with broken bones in casts on the cruise and they seemed to be having just as much fun as everyone else. No worries. :)

(just read another post on this thread. Hey that water cast sounds like a great idea!)

DD had a broken wrist for our 2005 cruise, but luckily had her cast removed RIGHT before we left and was in a removeable splint. Her only restriction was no slide or busy pool! I'd talk to your ortho and seeif you can get a waterproof cast, if still needed or move to a removeable splint for your trip. You still have limitations, but MUCH easier with water activities. She encountered no problems with the clubs.

No cruising with a broken bone, but with several of our kids during summer we were able to have various body parts casted with water proof casting so they could swim, etc.

Insurance did not pay for the waterproof material and I think it ran us about 50 dollars out of pocket difference to do it, well worth the expense.

The Oceaneers Lab won't be a problem.

Enjoy the cruise!

Same with us. A waterproof cast is so worth the extra $$. My ds 12 has broken his arms 3x so we're getting good at it.;)
The last ER we went to recommended their onsite ortho for F/U and 1st thing I asked on the phone was if they have waterproof casting material. When their reply was "no" I returned to the group we used the 1st 2 times.
Ds was in 2nd grade when he cruised with a cast. He snorkeled, swam with sting rays, swam in ship's pool, etc. He didn't miss a thing.
Luckily his cast was below elbow that time so swimming wasn't impaired. If your child needs one above elbow, it may be harder to swim but at least he can go in and get wet. :cloud9:
